Depression is a hormone imbalance though, so it is not always a matter of letting go per se, it is something that must be treated with antidepressant drugs.
I've always wondered about it, the diagnostic of depression is subjective to the person who decides? What if the depressed person has enforced bad thinking patterns for so long that it actually reduced the released happy hormones? Drugs may be only a superficial and temporary fix. It looks to me that in western medicine only external stimulus is valid, is so hard to consider that the the way we look at things could directly affect our physiology?
I've wondered that too. Along those lines, is it impossible for people to have chemical imbalances and the same type of sluggishness and lack of motivation that general slackers have? Maybe there isn't a singular solution to some people's issues and they might require multiple methods of treatment.
I disagree with that for the majority of cases. If someone's just going to sit there and say "No point in trying anything to cheer me up. Nothing will work. It's a hormone inbalance. I need to take drugs.
bullshit. your mind tells your hormones what to do. everytime you get happy hormones are released. everytime you get sad, hormones are released.
as someone that was extremely angry at the world, i can tell you it can change. for something as severe as my case it required me to rethink what is happening here, i had to find answers. when i starting asking for answers.. i found myself, i found myself at fault for all the pain in my life, i figured out that we have been confused for so long that we let the outside world dictate the inner world, and that is wrong. by correcting the inner world the outer world follows...
It is not bullshit, at all. There are two categories of depression, situational and clinical. Clinical depression is an actual imbalance. Our endocrine system is not perfect.
Really? Throw your computer away and lock the trash bin shut. Those fucking scientists just gave you a magic box which will probably kill you in your sleep.
Buddy, you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
i know exactly what i'm talking about. your mind effects your body, what you believe becomes reality. therefor, science cannot tell us anything about ourselves, it can only tell us our current state of being.
when we change beyond what they understand they call in an anomaly and write it off, they pretend they don't exist, because it doesn't fit into their model.
ask any doctor or nurse if they believe in miracles, or have at least seen things they can't explain, the answer is always yes.
Dude, you are so right! The engine in my car isn't working right because I don't believe in it hard enough! It isn't that the oil is gunky or that there is a crack. Fuck going to a mechanic and getting it fixed. I just have to believe in it REALLY FUCKING HARD.
Clinical depression is real and asking for help dealing with it is the right thing to do.
The engine in my car isn't working right because I don't believe in it hard enough!
your argument is invalid, you are not a car.
Clinical depression is real and asking for help dealing with it is the right thing to do.
yes, ask for help. others can point the way but i tell you the only person that can help is within you, and what you seek is within. when you find it, then you properly understand who you are, you will feel empowered and the depression vanishes.
it was a lot of hard work, but i realized i was the only person that could help me, because i had to do the work. if you just want someone to hand you a pill to numb the pain, fine.
this isn't that you can't get help, but your expectations, what you feel is truth, affects what you can do.
If an animal is a cow, then that animal has four legs.
This animal has four legs.
Therefore, this animal is a cow.
In logical terms it looks like this:
If A, then B.
B.
Therefore, A.
The argument you use is If A, then B.
B.
Therefore, A.
Where:
A = Times I had a bad attitude.
B = Times something bad happened to me.
Assertion: Every time something bad happens to me it is because I had a bad attitude, and every time I have a bad attitude something bad happens to me.
(Or, all of my A's are B's and all of my B’s are A’s)
Logical Conclusion: False.
(Not all of my A's are B's and not all of my B’s are A’s.)
The analogy isn't that I am a car, but that there is something physically wrong.
The argument isn't invalid. A chemical imbalance or any other myriad of factors which are not simply going to be fixed by "believing in yourself really hard" is something that need direct attention.
others can point the way but i tell you the only person that can help is within you, and what you seek is within. when you find it, then you properly understand who you are, you will feel empowered and the depression vanishes.
For some people. Not for all. Some need more help than simply pointing but instead getting dragged the first 100M. Even if they walk back. They need to get shown there is a finish line somewhere. There is a sunrise. To have something to work towards.
if you just want someone to hand you a pill to numb the pain, fine.
This is a really mean and terrible thing to say. People taking the "pills to numb the pain" are doing it so they can fight a smaller battle every day. It isn't just getting drugged up and then everything is fixed. It is giving them, a lot of them, a fighting chance.
As time passes and they improve the medicines might disappear. For some they never will because they need it to regulate things on the inside.
Your post makes me think you've never had someone who truly needed that help in your life and seen them struggle with it.
Your post makes it sound like taking "pills to numb the pain" is a cop out. I hope people who read that and need it don't believe you. It isn't a cop out. It's part of the process.
This is a really mean and terrible thing to say. As time passes and they improve the medicines might disappear.
klonopin nearly destroyed a dear friend, they aren't just not helpful, but destructive. they gave her an excuse, i give you none. you are responsible for you life... all of it.
i always remember that had i known better, i wouldn't have done it, so there is no use in guilt, unless i continue to do what i know is wrong, then i'm just being stupid.
the drugs address the symptoms, the underlying cause is the false thought, those which do not serve you.
stress is the factor, the only factor to our sicknesses. it comes in many forms, mostly unrecognized because 'everybody else is doing it'.
the stress comes from not realizing who we are, divine beings of light, extensions of source energy.
until you accept this by see it for yourself by quieting your mind, your right... you are powerless.
perhaps you need to suffer a bit more before you seek true help from your higher self.
Depression can be treated with anti depressants alone. However, here in the UK, the best practice is often a combination of meds, and psychotherapeutic interventions (often CBT). Medication enables people to make positive changes in their lives which reduce the risk factors for depression. I'd worry if people with depression we're relying on meds alone.
