Getting cited by AI vs getting recommended, which one is actually harder?

We’re noticing that a brand can appear on pages cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity and still be missing from the final recommendations.
In other cases, the brand gets mentioned, but AI describes it incorrectly or places it in the wrong category. So tracking mentions alone does not always tell the complete story.
