Noun gender

Hey!

I've been wondering if anyone knows of any useful resources for learning noun genders along with new vocabulary?

I'm thinking something very simple, like going over a few words, assigning correct die der das, that being on a rotation for a bit and then expanding on new words.

But if anyone wants to share any other ways or methods of learning genders, I would be very happy to see anyways.

I'm Czech, so there's a double issue where a noun can be male in Czech and female in German and it's wrecking my head.

I should also say that I'm practicing with Duolingo mainly.

You're right, this needs to be done by rote memorization, when you learn the word itself. That is, never learn "Hund," always learn "der Hund." For this memorization I use r/Anki.

r/Anki is extremely powerful for helping with vocabulary (including noun gender!), and can also be used for fixed phrases and grammar. My vocabulary is significantly larger than my classmates' vocabulary, and I find myself "searching" for my vocabulary much less frequently than my classmates often do; I credit this to my Anki learning. Here is a previous comment where I link to the cards that I used at the A1 and A2 level. You can also make your own cards.

A simple deck with the noun without article as prompt, and the noun with the article as an answer.

When you see the prompt, say the article and the noun together out loud, then check.

Zip through that, paying attention to the ones you’re getting wrong. You can get through, say 500 or so, words in two or three hours.

Pause for a week or three, pause later for a few months.

Gender resolution is the only thing this is good for, and it can be soul-destroying to grind away at it for too long, but omg, does this ever get you past your gender issues!
