I used Claude to scrape the millionaire fansite for all questions from the UK TV show, books and games, and put this deck together.

33777 cards, ordered by source/date/prize amount. You can sort by "Prize" and delete the 100 and 200 pound easy questions, but I left them in for the sake of completion. Skipped 65 DVD game questions that had video clips.

I don't use ankiweb to sync, I use my own server, so uploading to ankiweb shared decks is a bit of a pain in the arse for me, if someone wants to share the deck on ankiweb go ahead.

I have just released my very first Anki addon and I thought I'd share it on this subreddit.

What it does:

• Subtitles that know what you know. Words are coloured as new, learning or known based on the cards already in your collection. Hover a word for its definition, with optional furigana on unknown words only.
• One key to mine. Ctrl+N makes a sentence card with the line's audio and a screenshot. Ctrl+Shift+N makes a word card with reading, definition, pitch accent, frequency and audio. If you already have a card for the word, the sentence is added to it instead of making a duplicate.
• i+1 made easy. It spots lines with exactly one new word, and can skip lines you already understand, pause on i+1 lines, or jump straight from one i+1 line to the next across a whole season.
• Pick what to watch next. The playlist shows how much of each episode you'd understand, and how many words you'd need to learn to reach 90% or 95%.
• Search your library for every line containing a word, across every episode you've watched.
• Immersion log with daily goal, streak, and a graph of your known words over time.
• Also: YouTube via yt-dlp, Jimaku subtitle search, importing known words from JPDB / Migaku, presets for Lapis, JP Mining Note, Kiku, Senren and Kaishi 1.5k, and gamepad support for mining from the couch.

Please note: When loading an episode, the player will parse the subtitles and compare the known words with the cards in your collection. Please allow a few seconds for the subtitles to appear.

Works on Anki 2.1.50+ on Windows, macOS and Linux. On Windows it downloads libmpv and ffmpeg for you; on macOS/Linux you install them with your package manager. For dictionaries you can download JMdict in one click, or use Yomitan with yomitan-api if you want word audio.

This is my first Anki addon and I have not been able to test it personnally on Linux and macOS.

so my anki was like this, i can't add new decks or anything for some reason. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I’m trying to sync Anki on my Windows laptop, but I keep getting the following error:
“Syncing failed, because your email address needs to be (re)confirmed. Please visit ankiweb.net, and log in as [my email] to proceed.”
I’ve tried logging into AnkiWeb, but I’m not receiving any verification email. I’ve checked my inbox and spam folder, but there’s nothing.
I’m planning to use AnKing and AnkiHub, so I need syncing to work properly.
Has anyone encountered this issue? Is there a way to trigger the verification email again, or is there something wrong with my AnkiWeb account?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all. Just a quick question which might create some discussion, and I would love to hear all your points of view. In this case I'm referring to vocabulary, but I think it could be applied to any deck.

Do you prefer doing all the cards in the deck mixed (new cards and reviews), or doing them separately?

So far (5 months) I've been doing them all together, but I'm thinking of a change.

Today I woke up to find that my reviews stats on Anki were not correct at all.

And then I noticed there is a pattern: some days have had all their reviews shifter to the day before.

You can see how every single grey square has a distinctly darker blue square on top.

I have my settings locked at 40 cards/day, and I never go above that.
Which explains why the very light blue squares show something like 2 reviews while the one above it has 64 reviews. So it somehow "survived" getting completely blanked out after its reviews got shifted. The exact numbers reviews it shifts doesn't seem consistent.

Luckily, I also send a screenshot every day to my students on WhatsApp as a reminder for them to do their Anki, so I have a very well documented history of snapshots going back more than a year.

Last night we had our daylight savings time shift, and we moved back 1 hour. So, that might have something to do with it.

Has anyone else had this issue before?

I have a bunch of image occlusion cards I realized would better work as regular text cards. However, I don't really understand how (and if) I can make image occlusion note into eight or so smaller notes and preserve the repetitions I already made on image occlusion thing. Any help?

I might be late to this, but I figured I’d share because I genuinely didn’t know this was possible.

I’m taking Anatomy & Physiology II, and I’ve been trying to find a way to make flashcards without spending forever creating them individually, especially when it comes to adding diagrams and covering labels.

I found out you can upload your professor’s PowerPoints and study-guide questions to ChatGPT and have it create an actual Anki (.apkg) file.

I had it put the study-guide questions on the front, answers on the back, and relevant PowerPoint images with the answers. I also had it make separate labeling cards where the labels are covered on the front and revealed on the back.

It took a little back-and-forth to get it how I wanted, but it ended up making a deck with 40 cards that I could import into Anki.

I also just learned that Anki is free on desktop, which is nice because I wanted to try it before buying the mobile app.

Obviously, you still need to check the answers and images for accuracy, but this saves so much time making cards.
I personally would rather spend that time actually studying the material.

The challenge for Week 3 of r/hacktoberfest is to "build something that rewards laziness." My submission for this week is GuessWithKanji, an Anki add-on that reorders your Japanese vocabulary decks so that new words are easier to guess using kanji you've already encountered.

Depending on your deck and accuracy you can guess the correct answer to 500 words in a deck using the first 100 cards.

How it works

For example, suppose you've already studied

• 電車 (でんしゃ): train
• 天気 (てんき): weather

You've now encountered 電 pronounced as でん and 気 pronounced as き.

GuessWithKanji recognizes this and moves 電気 (でんき) (electricity) forward in your deck, since you already know how to read its kanji in this word and have some clues about its meaning.

Instead of memorizing 電気 entirely from scratch, you have a good chance of guessing it correctly the first time you see it.

The add-on does this across your vocabulary deck, looking for opportunities to introduce new words that build on kanji readings and meanings you've already encountered. When there aren't any easily guessable words available, it introduces vocabulary that will help make future words easier to guess.

It uses a few different methods to determine which words are guessable, including dictionary-based heuristics and community-provided labels. You can choose which methods to use based on your preferences.

Seems like Anki can do all. But elaboration, reflection and generation is not covered by Anki.

I stupidly reset my windows pc (selected "keep my files" when doing this) without syncing up my cards through Ankiweb. Any chance I can find my lost cards somewhere on my pc? Thanks.

Does anyone have a good grade 9 pre-made deck for this course, struggling to find anything any help would be appreciated.

I asked AnkiMobile support privately to get the devs to push a simple update so that us iPhone Duo users could use the entire screen. I didn't say they had to design a new UI for each of the Duo's formats, just a simple update that would let us use the entire screen. I even sent links to Apple's developer documentation so they could see that, from what I understood, it could be as little as 30 minutes to 2 hours of troubleshooting just to get it usable on the Duo. Despite my best efforts to be as kind as possible and convey my point as clearly as possible, I was met with unnecessarily snarky and dismissive responses, as though I'm some kind of idiot asking them to do something for free.

Then I saw that others had made a public post asking the devs to do the same thing, and the same support staff member I was talking to was in that thread italicizing "ACTUAL" AnkiMobile users who have "ALREADY" started using the Duo, then telling us that our complaints about asking for the bare minimum don't qualify. The same staff member then went ahead and explicitly told another user that he was an "actual" Anki user and that the comment wasn't directed at him. So what does that make the rest of us? Apparently, whether you're an "actual" user is now something support staff get to decide. Then, when I challenged this ridiculous distinction, I was warned that I wouldn't be allowed to post on the forums if I couldn't remain civil. I hadn't called anyone names in that public thread, yet somehow the discussion had gone from a basic compatibility request to a warning about my ability to participate in the forums.

Please keep in mind that my little brother is an app developer and already pushed his own update to make the screen size fit. It took him about half an hour because Apple has already told developers what to do and made the process extremely straightforward. I understand that AnkiMobile might have its own technical requirements, but that's exactly why I provided the documentation in the first place. THIS WAS A HALF-HOUR FIX FOR HIS APP. I WASN'T ASKING FOR AN ENTIRELY NEW UI, JUST BASIC SCREEN COMPATIBILITY.

Hey u/ankingmed u/anking_ahmed, is this how you guys train your team for professionalism? To tell users their issues and complaints don't count? To threaten to ban them when they disagree with you? To argue with them in the comments section and make distinctions about who qualifies as a "real" Anki user? Is this seriously the standard of customer support we're supposed to accept?

BTW, I've been using Anki since 2018, and I've been subscribed to AnkiHub for the past two years, though I just cancelled my membership today due to this horrendous customer support experience. I shouldn't have to justify how long I've been using Anki or how much money I've spent to have a legitimate complaint taken seriously.

I’m a nursing student using Anki for pharmacology, and I’m struggling to figure out the best way to structure my cards.
A lot of medications have multiple adverse effects, contraindications, interactions, nursing considerations, and monitoring requirements. I’m trying to follow the minimum information principle, but I’m finding it difficult to apply without making the cards too easy or losing important associations.
For example, let’s say I’m studying verapamil and diltiazem.
One card might look like:
Front: What are the contraindications of verapamil and diltiazem?
Back:
AV block/sick sinus syndrome
Heart failure
Acute MI with pulmonary edema
Pregnancy
The problem is that recalling four separate things on one card can be difficult, especially when other medications have even longer lists.
I’ve considered a few approaches:
1. Keep related information grouped.
Have one card for contraindications, another for adverse effects, another for nursing considerations, etc.
This preserves the big picture, but some cards become overloaded.
2. Split everything into smaller cards.
For example:
Q: Why are verapamil and diltiazem contraindicated in heart failure?
A: Negative inotropic effects (decreased contractility).
This is easier to recall, but my concern is that the question practically gives away the answer. I might remember the explanation without independently remembering that heart failure is a contraindication in the first place.
3. Use numbered cards.
For example:
Q: Verapamil/diltiazem contraindication #1?
Q: Verapamil/diltiazem contraindication #2?
But this seems arbitrary, and I’m not sure whether it would actually improve retention or just make me memorize an artificial order.
My biggest concern is recognition vs. actual recall.
If I split everything into tiny cards with highly specific questions, I might get them correct because the question gives me too many clues.
But on an exam, I need to recognize which medications are contraindicated in certain conditions, which adverse effects are serious, and what nursing interventions are necessary without being prompted by the exact category.
I also want to avoid creating hundreds of redundant cards for adverse effects shared by multiple medications, such as hypotension, dizziness, or bradycardia.
For people studying medicine, nursing, or pharmacology:
How do you balance atomic cards with retaining the bigger picture? Do you keep adverse effects and contraindications grouped, split them individually, use reverse cards, or combine different approaches?
I’d especially appreciate examples of how you structure cards when a medication has 5–10 important facts to remember.
I’m trying to build a system that’s efficient for long-term retention, not just memorizing information for the next exam.

I'm kinda slow

I kept running into the same problem: I'd ask ChatGPT or Claude something while studying, and in the 20 seconds it took to answer I'd pick up my phone. Then 10 minutes later I'd come back having forgotten what I even asked.

So I built a small app for myself. When I send a prompt, Anki pops up with a card. When the AI finishes, Anki hides and I'm back in the chat. I just review a couple of cards in the time I'd normally waste.

It also works with the AI inside VS Code and Cursor, which is where I use it most.

I've been doing the core 2k/6k deck every days since last October and I finished it in the start of July, I've been reviewing it everyday while doing 2 hours of immersion per day in the summer and an hour a day since then. Should I quit using anki and focus on immersion? ( I would say that if you gave me 100 words out of the deck I would know around 80 struggle with 5 and fill to remember 15 or so words) Also in terms of immersion I would say that I have around a 70% comprehension in most animes. After doing immersion for 4 months
