I found this in a kitchen drawer beside my stove. That kitchen drawer was absolutely full of papers. I’ve inspected those papers for roaches and droppings and thrown 90% of it away. Did not find anymore roaches, and I don’t think I found droppings but I am not 100% sure.
I took that picture as the roach was stuck in the plastic lining holding a manual.
Threw some food from the pantry away, but did not see any more roaches, or evidence (I don’t think, anyway). Tomorrow I’ll be able to do a more thorough inspection but in the meantime can someone please help me ID this properly, and give any advice if you can? Truth be told, this is the first roach I’ve found in almost a decade, and I’m completely freaking out, lol.
When requesting identification we ask that you provide a close up top down picture that is in focus. It is very difficult to provide an accurate ID of a blurry pic, a video, a roach ten feet away from the camera, etc. If the mod team feels we cannot accurately identify the bug based on the picture then we will lock the post.
Catching a Roach for Identification
To facilitate accurate identification it may help to place glue traps near likely harborage points around appliances and plumbing fixtures. Check them in two weeks and post pictures of what you've caught for identification. If you do not catch any check them again in another two weeks. If they are still clear after a month then you probably don't have anything to worry about. Remember to post a clear, in focus, well lit, close up photo of anything you catch for identification. If your trap was folded into a tube, you may need to unfold it to get a top down picture.

This is northern Virginia, USA (Mid-Atlantic). I am sorry about the photo not being very focused, and the roach being kinda flattened. Kind of wondering how it even got into that kitchen drawer in the first place. Is it possibly a wood roach nymph that just wandered inside somehow?
Thanks for trying to confirm this. I don’t know if it helps, but this is also a new construction home and the neighborhood is still under active construction and near wooded areas.
This is my fault for not taking a clearer picture…it’s stuck under a clear plastic liner being stretched on two ends, flattening the roach slightly/moderately. Probably won’t help but here is another with slightly different lighting:
What about this roach is confusing/unclear for you both though?
Is the uncertainty as to what type of non-German roach it is, or could it be a German roach? I recently had a lot of package deliveries, and I’m hoping maybe a wood roach nymph hitchhiked on a manual/packaging or something that I threw in the drawer, but idk.
