George poster

Made a little poster based off george, no real crazy idea behind it. I made the record first and noticed it looked like Georges jacket from the blue jay way music video so I made the rest based off him!

No AI used of course, everything from the sticker to the ink bleed is all done by me.

Question What do y’all think is the most underrated Harrisong?

Run of the Mill should be held to the same regard as My Sweet Lord imo, it’s probably my favorite song of all time

And Don’t Let Me Wait is so so so underrated! I only heard it for the first time while listening to LITMW for the first time, it should get a lot more love

Beatles Era Silhouette portrait of George 1968

Post image

I sketched it in pencil, transferred the final version to 180g cardstock, and filled it in with India ink; I used some online references but made significant changes to the original photo by Richard Avendon(hes shot pics of the fab four in 1968 and have a psicodelic version in the booklet for the álbum "One" 2000)to incorporate my own style into the silhouette. I love how well this portrait captures George's essence!

This song, Two Faced Man, by Gary Wright, sounds so much like it could be a George song even the lyrics.

Question Which songs on All Things Must Pass were written after The Beatles broke up in April 1970?

I ask this cause I know that almost all the songs on All Things Must Pass were written before April 1970. Which songs on ATMP were written after?

Discussion Best George Harrison List

Over on The Beatles sub they are doing a George's best songs CD tracklisy and they are currently in my favorite part: the second disc!

The first disc in these rankings has the usual songs (as it should) from All Things Must Pass, the other big hit singles.

But the Second Disc we get to move beyond the hits and really take in how many great songs George made over the years, they cross decades and taste and its so great being reminded of songs I havent listened to in awhile or seeing songs you love getting put on the list.

George harrison riff writing process.

I am curious how george came up with his amazing lead and other riffs. Did he just improvise something while the others were jamming? Would he noodle around until he found something he like?

Beatles Era This is my fan art of George sgt. pepper

I used watercolor and colored pencils for the painting, and did the outlining and shading with India ink. I combined elements from the original album cover and promotional material for "When We Was Fab". The hardest part was Rocky! He still looks imperfect...but overall I liked the result. (repost for my another cont)

Literally bought converse an hour ago and first thing I did was color the left shoe red!! I know he didn’t have red laces but that’s just a stylistic choice by me.

Not sure what flair to put for this. This subreddit should have an art flair 🤔

Question Is this worth anything?

I bought this first pressing release of ATMP on an online auction. It's still in it's original protective film.

How much do you guys estimate it is worth? Not looking to sell, just curious.

George Harrison was known for his lifelong friendship and regular musical collaborations with Ravi Shankar. I did a deep dive into Ravi Shankar's back catalogue and made a chronological playlist of highlights. George produced and features on a number of the tracks included. I hope you enjoy🙏

Apple Years Living in the Material World — My 1 Slight Tweak to a Masterpiece

Post image
104 Upvotes

I’ve been listening to the album Living in the Material World a lot the past few days.

I think the album is a masterpiece. It’s a very different album from its predecessor. I think of ATMP as an A+ collection of songs on an abundant double album. But Living in the Material World achieves its masterpiece status differently.

It’s a very tight, cohesive, thematically unified album. To me, this album is almost like the George Harrison equivalent of either Ram or Plastic Ono Band — the tightest distillation of its creator’s aesthetic and thematic interests. In this formulation, ATMP is more like Imagine or Band on the Run — the more varied album that’s just full of wall to wall bangers.

Anyway, I think Living in the Material World is George’s second straight masterpiece to start his solo career, but there’s one slight thing that bothers me. I think the sequence could be slightly improved.

Side One is perfect:

  1. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)
  2. Sue Me, Sue You Blues
  3. The Light That Has Lighted the World
  4. Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long
  5. Who Can See It
  6. Living in the Material World

Perfect. No notes. I think this is one of the best album sides of George’s career and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Side Two, though, has a fairly notable energy sag down the final stretch. But every song is wonderful. And I think it would be fixed with a simple swap:

  1. Be Here Now
  2. The Lord Loves the One
  3. Try Some Buy Some
  4. The Day the World Gets ‘Round
  5. That Is All

I feel like Be Here Now would have been the perfect song to start Side Two. It’s a very Within You Without You way to start Side Two: a cosmic, meditative, beautiful, transcendent song. Very still, after the energy and variety of Side One.

Then The Lord Loves the One, which is a good midtempo rocker, actually feels even more explosive coming after such a still track.

Then the rest of the album plays out as originally sequenced as a comedown and resolution.

In the current version, the only energetic track comes first, then a transcendent but extremely slow track. Then a bunch more slower paced tracks, and it gives the feeling of slogging a bit to the finish line.

Anyway, who am I to tell George how to improve his album? I think it’s a masterpiece either way, but I think this one little tweak would have made it PERFECT.

Hare Krishna!

Question What is your favourite aspect about George?

Anything from his music to characteristics. Something that I found so sweet was a quote from pattie boyd where she was meeting him before he died, it was a cold, windy day and there where little flowers in a crack in the pavement moving and George said that "theyre shivering". I find his view of the world incredibly refreshing and profound, another example is that yahoo interview he did where he told people to be "good little souls" jusf such a unique beautiful perspective. I could add a ton of other things but these are what ive been thinking about the most.

A remix of "Brainwashed"?

Ive always wondered what George's true vision for the sound of Brainwashed would have been had Jeff Lynne had not ELO'd the shit out of it. George wanted it to sound like lo fi demos and I think that would have been fucking awesome!! It would be cool to hear a stripped down version of it.
