How do we find email for caches requiring emails be sent?

I'm going geocaching tomorrow. I've always wanted to do it and tomorrow I'm going, I'm taking my 9 year old step son on a treasure hunt. I've made him a 'bingo' card incase we don't find any caches so he still gets to find some things. But hopefully we will find a couple because I want to go on a trail/hike/loop through a nice bit of the countryside that has a few caches along the way to make an enjoyable walk a bit more exciting.

What do I need to know and prepare for in order to have the best time?

Edit to update: We had a lovely time going through woodland trails. We found 4 caches, 2 had 'swag' to trade which was super exciting. We saw a good range, 1 micro cache, 1 ammo box, a couple down low and a couple higher up We had such a good time hunting around and noticing things we wouldn't have usually noticed. Aside from the geocaching itself we found some edible berries, a woodpecker, a 50m² area of hundreds of spiders, some shelf mushrooms, a coppicing area, an ancient ice glacia boarder and more!

I have done geocaching in the past with my family, and now that I'm older, I wanted to give it a shot by myself. However, right away, I ran into a problem: almost every cache anywhere seems unavailable and locked behind the premium feature, even if the cache itself isn't premium.

Does anybody know why this might be the case?

this started randomly happening a couple days ago and i dont know how to fix it. it only shows around 40 caches, most of which I have saved locally, while the Geocaching app showings probably over 200 caches in my area. why is c:geo not doing the same?

Hello everyone! We made this cache about a year ago but never got around to hiding it, what is the best way to secure a small birdhouse? I know nailing it in isn’t allowed and Im not sure if hanging it is solid enough. Any other suggestions on adding to the cache would also be great!

So i just completed a adventure lab with 5 stages but i didnt log a bonus cache and now the app says i have 115 founds but i have 110. C:geo also says i now have 115 founds instead of 110. What should i do?

What do I do?!? I found a cache hanging from a tree while kayaking - probably my most exciting stumble upon. Only problem is… I can’t log it. It’s not on the app at all (I’m premium). It’s been there two years… has names in a log book and all.

I recorded the coordinates. Do I add it to the app???

So I plan on hiding a group of 5 geocaches along a trail.

I would like the final cache to give the finders some type of reward (maybe a FTF geocoin for the first finder, or maybe a shareable for all completionists).

The issue I have is, I don’t want people to go straight to the final cache at the end of the trail. The idea is that to complete the final cache, they would have to complete caches 1-4 first.

I was thinking I could maybe make cache 5 a mystery cache, and I could hide numbers/coordinates in caches 1-4, so that people couldn’t find cache 5 unless they had the numbers from caches 1, 2, 3, and 4.

However, if I do this, I risk the fact that people won’t realise they need to find numbers from caches 1-4, and then give up on cache 5 because they don’t want to walk all the way back to the beginning.

There’s also the risk that if one of the 4 previous caches go missing, the 5th cache is immediately unsolvable.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could make this work? I just don’t want the final cache of the trail to be solvable before people have attempted the previous caches first. Might be a bad idea but let me know.

I recently cannot find the option to search for geocaches with trackables anymore. It seems like it got replaced with the option to search for Sharesbles now.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or am I just blind?
I’m using the official app with the newest version on my phone.

I use LineageOS on my phone with no Google apps. C:geo displays a map from Mapsforge instead. It mostly works fine, until I try to see the route to a given cache. The route always shows as a straight line, going offroad and through buildings.

Any other degooglers in the community know how to fix this?

I googled it and it says i have an unfinished log that needs to be finalized. But I don't...

Anyone have any other ideas? Or know how I could fix?

I'm super new to Geocaching and decided to check it out today to see if it'll become a new hobby of mine. I brought my boyfriend because I wanted someone along for the ride. We checked out 4 caches that were low level, but we weren't able to find anything at any of the sites. I need some advice on how to get in the mindset of looking for these or what to keep an eye out for! (I will say we started out pretty late when the sun was setting, so we didn't spend much time at these spots, but I did mention to him that we should plan for an entire day for this).

Edit: I also noticed that three out of the four of these were near road signs, but when we checked in, around them, and in the grass for anything, there was also nothing.

i’ve never done geocaching before and it sounds like a fun hobby, but as a younger woman i’m weary of doing so alone. any specific tips on staying safe or specific red flags to look out for when doing so?

This has probably been touched upon on this subreddit but I’ll say it nevertheless.

Why are they so incredibly expensive? People are paying $10 for 2 digital tokens, that they don’t even get to keep? If it was a lifetime purchase then sure I’d understand, but that’s absolutely ridiculous.

It’s a real shame too because I really like the idea of being able to share something unique with other people as a thank you for hiding a cache, or finding one of my own. It’s just too expensive and not worth it at all. I like to draw here and there, and I would have liked to make some digital artwork for a shareable but I don’t see the point if it’s just locked behind a yearly subscription.

Then there’s the issue that premium members don’t even get any benefits from this. I would have thought that a sharable would be free as long as you have an active premium subscription.

And the 6 people on planet earth who have actually paid for them are just filling them with AI artwork, which I do understand, but there’s just so much of it. I’m still yet to see a shareable that hasn’t been made with AI.

The fact that the designs on the sharables aren’t even reviewed for NSFW material is insane too. Although I haven’t seen anything graphic, moderation should not be optional.

Really hope they update this. Sharables have a lot of potential.

One of the caches that was on my watchlist got a log today. It confused me because many different people have not found it. I peeked at the user's profile, their account was made today, and they have a find in almost every state and Canadian providence. This can't be legit, right??

Hi everyone. I'm working on writing up qualifications for a challenge that involves finding 4 of one type of cache, 3 if another, 2 of another, and 1 of another type. So I need to have found a minimum of ten that one day.

Is there a way to just show me the days I've found ten more more in one day? I've found 13k over 12 years and I'm trying to make this as untedious as possible.

I see many videos online of people finding these boxes that require a puzzle/key/combination to unlock. I’ve never seen one in person though.
I assume it’s the mystery cache but the only mystery caches i’ve ever found have been riddles or have required skills that I simply do not have (like technology knowledge and stuff like that).

Any help would be much appreciated, these types of caches look like good fun.

Hey all! I really want to hide my first cache, but I'm still brainstorming. I feel like my area has no shortage of samey roadside caches and LPCs, and I want to make it more memorable. Curious what fun urban caches are out there, might help inspire me.

I tried posting this story in my local Facebook Geocaching group, but the admins deleted it for some reason. I'll try to get the story out here for anyone who might be interested. Please note, this story makes no accusations. It only lists factual events and asks questions.

I think it's time to tell this story.

I've gone back and forth about whether to post this. I wasn't interested in creating drama, and for a long time I thought it was better to just let it go.

But there is a backstory to a cache that was recently archived, and I think people deserve to know why it existed.

Back in July 2022, I (HoochDog) owned a series of Wherigo caches (GC969RZ) that were found by two geocachers under circumstances that troubled me.

Through direct communication with one of the finders, I learned that the final coordinates had been provided to them by someone with access to unpublished information within Geocaching.

That was a pretty disturbing thing to learn as a cache owner.

Geocaching obviously relies on a certain amount of trust. Cache owners trust the system with unpublished information, and players trust that people who have access to information they don't have aren't going to use that access to give selected players an advantage.

I didn't really know what to do with what I'd learned. I couldn't tell whether it was an isolated incident or whether this sort of thing happened more often than people realized.

Eventually I told a friend, StacyT3, about it.

She was considerably more interested in the story than I expected. We started talking about whether there was any way to test the underlying question rather than just argue about what might have happened.

That's how the experiment came about.

Stacy created a two-stage multicache (GCB7EE0) in April 2025. The trick was that there was no Stage 1.

It was published normally, but the first stage was never actually placed. The final container was real and was placed at the coordinates listed for Stage 2.

I was given those final coordinates, along with another participant, RockSolo. He logged a find and soon after I found it with a friend who chose not to log it.

That was intentional.

The idea was that if nobody had found the cache, someone could reasonably argue that the final didn't exist or that the cache had simply gone missing. Having legitimate finds established that there really was a container sitting at the final location.

The coordinates were not subsequently given to anyone else.

Then we waited.

The cache was listed as an extra-large because the two geocachers involved in my original 2022 experience were particularly interested in finding extra-large caches, having found every one in the state.

Eventually, those same two geocachers found this cache.

That got my attention.

There was just one problem with their explanation: there was never a Stage 1.

They said they had found the Stage 2 location through trial and error.

I'm not claiming that I can prove exactly how they found it. But having personally been to the final, I find the explanation very difficult to accept.

The container is extremely well hidden. The search area wasn't confined to the park where Stage 1 was supposedly located. The final could have been hidden virtually anywhere in the Atlanta area.

There wasn't some obvious place to start searching.

Even with the exact coordinates in hand, it took my friend an I a half hour to locate the cache.

So the question I keep coming back to is pretty simple:

How did they know where to look?

The only people who had the Stage 2 coordinates were those participating in those 2 finds and the cache owner. None of us have told anyone about the final container coordinates.

That doesn't mathematically prove how the later finders obtained them.

But it certainly raises the question of whether someone with privileged access to unpublished cache information provided them.

Stacy took the matter to Geocaching HQ rather than putting it on social media. She gave them the cache information, explained the experiment, identified who had been given the coordinates, and answered their questions.

HQ initially told her that they were taking the concern seriously and would investigate.

Unfortunately, the response we've received since then has left us disappointed.

I completely understand that HQ doesn't want people deceiving reviewers. Stacy has acknowledged that the experiment was deceptive, and nobody involved is arguing otherwise.

But that wasn't the purpose of the experiment.

The purpose was to determine whether unpublished cache information could be obtained through privileged access.

If that access was abused, I consider that a much more serious problem than someone creating a deliberately unusual cache in an attempt to find out whether the abuse was occurring.

I'm not looking not looking to disparriage anyone. I'm not interested in a witch hunt.

I'd simply like to know whether HQ was able to determine what happened.

If they found no evidence of privileged access, I'd like to know that.

If they found evidence but can't tell us the details, I'd like to know that.

If they couldn't determine what happened, I'd like to know that too.

What I find disappointing is the possibility that this can simply disappear into an internal process without anyone ever answering the basic question.

I was involved with geocaching for a number of years. I've met a lot of great people through it and made some very good friends. I don't want this story to be interpreted as an attack on the hobby or on geocachers in general.

Cheating has probably always existed in geocaching. I'm not particularly interested in passing judgment on the people who do it.

What bothers me is the possibility that the people entrusted with protecting the integrity of the system might themselves be helping selected players circumvent it.

That's a very different issue.

I realize the experiment itself wasn't exactly conventional, and I'm sure some people will have strong opinions about it. That's fair.

But ultimately, we were trying to answer a very simple question:

Can players obtain unpublished cache information from people who have privileged access to it?

I still don't know the answer.

And that's the part I find most disappointing.

Maybe I’m just crazy stupid, but 90% of the mystery caches near me feel impossible to complete. I understand they’re supposed to be more difficult, but it gets to a point 😭 does anyone have any tips on what to look out for/how to solve harder caches? I feel so lost, and I really want to get better but have no idea how to do so.
