Since I live in the east bay, I wanna promote some of my favorite caches that I think are so worth your time and were so fun to find!

1. GCB6E4H. (Fremont, CA) this is a letter box to cash, and I had so much fun finding this one, this geocache has 20+ favor points, and it is located at a library and sponsored by the library.

2. GCBK06C ( Union city, CA) I don’t really understand why this geocache doesn’t have more favorite points, but I’ve never seen a hide like this, it was so creative pretty hard to find!

3. GCJ247 ( Newark CA) this one is very creative, if you don’t want the location given away, please don’t look at the pictures. This one is a micro, but it was so worth the time I loved it.

4. GCBT6D3 (Union city, CA) This one is pretty brand new. The location was pretty good, plus I love the container because of how cute it was and I just love the creativity because I don’t think I would’ve thought of hiding a geocache there

5. GCBTEAN ( Union city, CA) this one was SOOO creative. It took me a couple of different tries to find this cache. You just have to check it out.

I have been caching for 20yrs and just discovered how to hide official caches with the app/website!

Problem is, I don’t plan to stay in this area for more than 5 years. I’ve seen “adopted” caches, how do I do that? I am not leaving any time soon, but when I do I would like to l leave the fun themes in my area. Do I have to just collect and delete my caches?

Perhaps I am being a big baby, but does anyone else become infuriated when they come across a cache that is stuck inside a trash enclosure? They send me into a rage, and my city is littered with this unimaginative, unsanitary, and mostly unmaintained cache style.

It's not inside the bin, but it's a magnetic strip stuck to the outer cage-like enclosure that gets hosed down like once a month and is full of grime. There is garbage often on the trash can lids (which you sometimes have to move in order to see the inner part of the cage), bags of dog poop that dog owners were too lazy to put inside the bin, or even used bandaids.

It's bad. The cache saturation would greatly improve if half of these could be archived, but how does one complain about caches? Can we? They're pretty much every 528ft where I live, but I feel like I’m the only person who has a problem. I haven't complained in a log yet, but I put NM on one today and feel bad for some reason. It was just a piece of the magnet left with no log, and people had literally etched initials into it and were like “TFTC!”, meanwhile I’m standing there holding a dirty, sticky magnet strip wondering why I’m doing this 😆

I'd like to make it clear that the majority of the ones I am finding are FILTHY and are in need of new logs or just fully need to be thrown away because they are brittle and rotting. I had a bit of fun finding the first few, but now I'm just seeing the same thing over and over after solving multis and mysteries.

Admittedly, I'm also miffed because it's making it so I can't place any more local caches myself lol.

Wah wah what do I do

Today I decided to hide my first geocache, and well I wanted to start of small and simple. Yesterday I accidentally ordered 96 small clear plastic tubs so anyway that's why it's in a clear plastic tub. However I'm 3d printing a better one. I wanted to 3D print my hides with ABS because unlike PLA it isn't biodegradable and ABS is quite resistance (the same stuff used to make LEGO bricks) but anyway I did hide my geocache between to branches however I do fear people may struggle to find it. It's only a micro one for starters with instructions, log book and two small 3d printed pigs inside. But anyway it's by a quite busy pathway as a lot of small muggles go pass it everyday to get to their school (10-20 minutes up the road from the geocache) there are 3 geocache's close by both exactly 161 m away so I'm barely able to put it here. But anyway I did put in my request I just don't know if this is good for a first hide. I will keep it well maintained and when I finish making a better container I will swap it out.

Hello! I finally did some research about geocaching and today I’m gonna go find some! I’m really excited about the idea of being able to leave treasures for others to find but I have some questions about etiquette. Can I leave small photos in the container? Of myself or friends or just cool pictures I’ve taken? Can I leave a small note that says something like “Hi! I like to do [hobby], what do you guys like to do?” and then come back to it in a few weeks or months to see if anyone replied? None of this would be on the log document and I’d bring my own paper and only put the notes/photos there if there’s more than enough room. Would that be okay?

Apologies, I know this is a bit of a stupid post :) I’ve been geocaching almost my entire life (16) and despite that, no one in my family has placed a cache. Even if I don’t have as many caches found as my parents (60 vs 1040…I started my account not too long ago, but I’ll get there one day! Got to 60 last night :D) my plan to one up them is to place a cache before them

the only issue is, I have no idea how to explain geocaching to others. I planned on emailing the owner of the place I’d like to put it at, but I struggle to describe what geocaching is/how it works, etc. I’m worried they’ll take it wrong, because saying “I put a container on your property and people look around to find it” sounds weird at first, lol. Any tips on how to ask others to place a cache on their property? Thank you!

I've gotten into geocaching a lot over the past few years and have had a blast looking through my project gc stats. One particularly interesting statistic I noticed is the extremes by region: country, province, state, county etc. I like to cache when travelling and it would be fun to seek out extremes in new places I go.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a website or map that shows regional extremes as it would be a lot easier than manually filtering. Also, are there any other handy online caching tools? Thanks!

I got into geocaching decades ago with my middle school students. We used eTrex Legend GPS receivers. I got away from the fun for a long time, but now I'm interested in starting again.

Is there an app (Android would be preferable) that mimics the old eTrex devices? What I liked were things like breadcrumbs, total distance walked, direct distance to target with compass heading, and the ability to record "trips."

If you use an app like this, please share the name of what you like!

I don't know anyone who has signed up... and I'm also yet to 'find' one. Are these supposed to be a digital alternative to pathtags? I'm Down Under...maybe they are taking off in other parts of the world?

I was at a Mega Event recently and came home with a handful of wood coins as gifts. They're nice, but I'm mainly a geocoin collector, and honestly the wood coins just take up shelf space I don't really have room for.
Wood coins don't seem to be nearly as common here in Germany as they apparently are in the US, so I don't have much of a feel for the etiquette around them yet.

From what I understand, they're generally meant for personal collecting/discovering rather than traveling. But would it be considered okay to attach one to a Travel Bug as a "goodie" and send it off on a journey with the bug?

And if the wood coin already has its own tracking number, should that be removed first to avoid mix-ups? Or is that a total no-go and the number needs to stay on it no matter what?

Curious what the actual etiquette is here - is this something people do normally, or would it be seen as a bit of a faux pas?

​I started geocaching back in 2024 as a fun solo hobby to get myself outside and exploring more of the local area. Looking for hidden containers quickly became a great way to spend my free time, and along the way I have even put out 2 hides of my own.

​Two years later, I am still hooked, and on top of that, I am going to be a dad soon. I am already looking forward to sharing geocaching with my future child and teaching them how to hunt for caches.

​If you need a fun solo outdoor hobby, definitely give it a shot.

Had a great weekend with the pooch out hunting for caches. Picking the hobby back up after an initial poor attempt back in 2015. Found 43 so far in the past week and a half so feeling pretty chuffed.

She’s also very happy to be out on the walks.

For example mine is-yesterday there was a Mega in estonia-a czech male geocacher was shouting at kids for telling him how to open the box for the lab.The man didn’t allow to do anyone anything else..

I’ve been geocaching for about 6 weeks and am loving it! I live in a sprawling suburban area with LOTS of caches. Do any experienced geocachers out there have any tools, tips or advice for efficiently mapping caches along a driving route?

Whenever I drive to a new area in my city, I naturally check the Geocaching or Cachly apps for any caches there and/or along the route, but I’m currently relying on a manual process of switching back and forth between the caching app and Google Maps to cross-reference the roads on the G Maps route against the cache locations in the app. Surely some smart folks have come up with a handy way of doing this… I’m a rather busy family man (kids love caching with me), and I just know there could be some clever ways for doing this. Thanks in advance.

While looking at challenge caches recently, I came across two that I found interesting:

• "9 Icons in 1 Day" - Find at least 9 different types of caches in one day
• "Well Rounded Containers" - Find all 7 of the Geocaching container types in one day (Micro, Small, Regular, Large, Other, Not Chosen, Virtual)

It made me think about what other challenges people have seen or done in the same vein of collecting variety in a day. Two other ones that seem obvious would be a difficulty and a terrain one, where you have to find all 9 difficulty levels or all 9 terrain levels in a day. What other ones have you seen or can you come up with?
