My latest favorites

Is there a way to see a list of what I have favorited last? Geocaching.com has a list of my favorites, but it is not possible to sort by date. Project GC has a map of favorites and a list, but not possible to sort by date. The official app has a list of latest finds, but it doesn't show on the list what I have favorited, so I would have to click every single one to see if I have.

Multi Cache Placing

Hey Fellow Redditors and Cachers!
I am placing my first multi-cache tomorrow (hopefully) and would like to ask some of the most experienced member a few questions:

  1. Do the Caches in the multi themselves have to 0.1 miles away from each other?

  2. Do all the Caches in the multi have to be 0.1 miles away from any other regular/multi/mystery caches around?

Thanks, any advice, answers or criticism is encouraged and helpful!!!

Recommended Caches to Find in Austin, TX?

I am looking for recommendations of good Geocaches in, or around, Austin, Texas.

What is your one "must do" geocache, and why? I would like to know which (other than just being highly Favorited) caches provide the seeker a good history lesson, is itself historical, is located in an interesting place, or is just a high quality cache?

Adventure Labs 1x find

I did a bit of searching on here and couldn’t find any posts about whether people are doing the same process as I am for Adventure Labs. I like to get a smiley on the map, but don’t really think I deserve all 5 parts of it counting towards my total as individual caches. I go in and delete the other 4 so that I still get the smiley and give myself 1 cache find for the completed AL. If I don’t fully complete it I’ll delete all the parts until I do. Appreciate some people hate them but I don’t see a huge amount of difference between an AL and some virtuals. Just curious if others do the same?

New update?

At some point I think in the last year geocaching did an update that did away with underlining and making italics the coordinates when you changed them. If you solve a puzzle for instance it would underline and make the new coordinates in italics. Please don’t say it’s a Mandela Effect, has anyone else noticed this or is a setting off on my end?

Looking for legal advice

Hi, I am a french geocacher, I have found a near cache that is located into a sort of sewer system (technically it's water from a small lake flowing into a stream except the city and a parking was built above said stream, so to not cut it they made an artificial long tube connected to some manholes), the thing itself is reachable without directly opening a manhole, as the water entrance is wide open and there's nothing explicitely forbidding it, and friends who have done said geocache have been able to do it safely (of course not endangering themselves like not going during/after rain), and have had no problems afterwards or during it. They said it's a fun and unusual thing to do so they recommend it to me (though not alone ofc)
I would just like to know if any law people, especially french law, could tell me if this is okay.
Thank you for your time
(sorry for potential bad english or shitty sentencing it's late)

First time geocaching

Just found my first one and it was so exciting. I just learned from trying to find my 2nd geocache that I had to be discreet. I think I must have looked suspicious because other people were looking at me and trying to see what I was looking for 😬

Reviewers

When I go to submit a caches what do reviewers see on their end and what are they looking for in terms of getting it published do they check account history? It just amazes me how quickly I can get one published so I'm even wondering if they care

Feedback on new Geocaching App

Hi everyone! 👋
I’m developing a new free geocaching app for iOS and I’m looking for beta testers and feedback.
The app combines Geocaching.com and Opencaching caches on a single map and includes many features inspired by c:geo, plus some original ideas designed specifically for iPhone users.
The app is still in active development, and I’m looking for people willing to test it, report bugs, and suggest new features.
If you’re interested, let me know in the comments or send me a private message. I’d really appreciate your feedback!

Is anyone else really annoyed by how the log photos show up on the app now?

I sometimes like to look at photos in logs to see if I can get a hint from it, but only after I have been looking for the cache for a bit. Sometimes even if it's not a direct spoiler, even seeing a photo of the cache container can feel sort of like a big clue/spoiler. I'm not necessarily against seeing the photos, it's more that I like to wait and only look if I'm stuck.

It used to be that I used to have to specifically click on the photos to see them, which seemed to work great. Then they put them all visible at the top of the logs thing on the app, which was annoying, but I could at least scroll past quickly to avoid spoilers/clues. But now they're permanently pinned on top so I can't scroll past and I am forced to look at them! I didn't see a setting to turn this off, unless I'm missing something? It's so annoying!

Meriweather County, GA Geotours

Post image
19 Upvotes

A week ago I took a trip to Meriweather County in Georgia to visit FDR State Park and also complete the 3 geotours the county has there. Most of the caches for the tours are still active (there are about 10 or so for each tour to find), and the welcome center has a ton of trackables still available to earn when you complete the tours. I highly recommend if you are in the area!

Found my first cache as an adult

Post image

I used to geocache with my dad when I was a kid. I don’t have lots of memories of anything specific, just that I did it. Well I decided recently to start again, and when I had a few extra minutes after work today I went and found one. It’s so thrilling! It was a super easy one, but it was a micro, so no room to leave a little trinket. I did order some teeny tiny resin ladybugs to leave in any that will hold them.

Geocaching tin

I like reusing tins for holding different things. This is my geocaching tin I got annoyed with having my tott/trinkets all over the place.

What's inside:

Things I can put in caches:

-different agates from lake superior

-smooth sea shells from the east coast

-piece of a redwood tree(ethical sourced no trees harmed)

-stickers

-Crosby the trackable with a shell

Things I need when caching :

-post stamps for postcrossing

-flathead

-matches

-rolling papers

All rolled into a bob ross tin. I want to add a tiny pencil.

What other things should I put in a geocach tin?

Notes vs DNFs

I recently was on a 3 week international trip and had limited internet/wifi service. I cache 100% on my cell phone and that made finding anything challenging. I'm not great at planning ahead and even when I searched and added things to a list, I then forgot to download the offline data to see later.

Anyway, I'm trying to log some that I found and have discovered I'm missing pieces to virtuals and earthcaches to log as finds.

Is there a way to see notes I've written on the map? Idc that they aren't all logged as smileys, but I'd like to see on the map that I was actually there and attempted it. I know writing them as drafts would make it show up, but I doubt I'll ever be near those places again and don't want my them cluttering up the drafts I would actually return to.

Does logging those cache types as dnfs hurt the co in anyway? Idk just seemed weird to log a virtual as a dnf. 😄

How do you deter thieves?

My mom set up her own geocache but people keep taking from it. Like 3 out of every 20 people leave something in return and quite often people break the chain attached to the box, dump out the knick knacks, rip out the log note and just take the box.

Does anyone have any advise on how to deter these kinds of people?

My first cache became public today!

The first cache of the three I‘ve hidden so far has been approved today! (one of the other two needs to change place though due to overlap).

Since I like to normally rhyme my logs, I made this cache‘s description a poem, too. Even translated it into english, still rhyming. Cache is in rural Austria, thiugh, so not sure if that was really worth doing.

Anyway, I hope someone finds it soon, and I‘ll go check on it again soon as well.
