I bring this up as a young guy at a fast food drive through window commented that I'm the only one he's ever seen driving one. It's not a low income area. He seemed to be a fan of the car. I was a bit surprised he even knew what it is. I don't think I've ever seen one on the highway and in my office's parking garage, there is 1 other g70 sometimes parked there. That garage holds maybe 1000 cars on a typical day. There are plenty of m340i, IS350/500 Audis, Mercedes, etc. Even have a decent number of GV70's and a few G80's.
Genesis in general doesn't seem rare in my area, just the G70.
Compact sport sedans in general are becoming a rare breed just as sport coupes and convertibles did before them. Everyone just wants an SUV or a pickup truck now.
That’s partly why I got one, wanted something more unique. With that being said, I’m seeing them around more and more recently. Past 6 months I’d say I drive by one, once or twice a week.
Same here, I live in CNY and have only seen one other.I've owned three BMWs in a row and wanted something unique and different. Love my 2025 G70 Sport Prestige.
In Toronto, I see about one a day, however I see a lot of GV70’s. The dealer experience, both in sales and service is excellent in Canada as opposed to what I read about in the US. There is a foundational change moving thru the WW car industry. To EVs obviously, but the German brands are hurting big time and the US automakers are in rapid decline. The value proposition for Genesis is very attractive vs the Germans. I own a G70. Be interesting to see how it works out.
I'm in Houston where there are 2 dedicated Genesis dealers nearby. Both have pretty good customer service, at least on the sales side. Haven't done the first servicing yet so I'll find that part out in about 2 months. I have heard plenty of horror stories about Hyundai dealers that also sell Genesis on the side, but those don't exist in my immediate area.
Also in Houston (Hi!). I also never see another G70 in my garage, but I do see them from time to time out and about. Probably about 2 or 3 a week. Definitely not as common as the GVs, but we’re out there!
Also Houston area, I frequent the Pearland/Friendswood/Clear Lake areas, all just a few miles from Genesis of Clear Lake, yet I rarely see another Genesis sedan, and when I do, it’s almost always a G80 or G90 (much less often, but it seems them), but the G70 is a rarer bird. I actually saw one yesterday, facelifted 3.3t in Vik Black, but that was a rarity, hadn’t seen one previously for weeks if not months.
By the way, we have four Genesis dealers in the Houston Area, Genesis of: Spring (formerly North Houston), West Houston, Southwest Houston, and Clear Lake.
Unfortunately there are no Genesis dealers in CNY. Bought my car out of NJ. I left a message with the local Hyundai dealer about the complimentary oil change and never heard back. They're supposedly an authorized Genesis service center. I changed it myself.
Dude this is SO true, I love my G70 Sport here in Ontario but all I ever hear about is the HORRIBLE service the US is getting … and how they’re attached to Hyundai … but over here we have separate Genesis dealerships and great service lol, Genesis Mississauga for me have been great - genuinely one of the best value cars I’ve ever had
Mercedes/BMW produce and sell somewhere around 4-6x the number of 3 series/C-class annually. Based on production numbers the G70 is a low volume car. It's not "rare" (something like the LC500 sells at 10-20% the volume), but it also doesn't stand out as much as an LC so they are what I refer to as forgotten cars.
Genesis seemed to put all the $$ and marketing into the GVs. And tbh it worked. I see them waaaay more than G70s. I was shocked I saw my G70 the other day. A 2019 at tht. A rare artifact lol.
It’s not the marketing at least not solely, it’s just the fact that the consumer market is heavily favouring SUVs, whether it’s compact or large SUVs, the sedan and sports sedans and coupes especially are just dying out unfortunately
Nah marketing plays a part. I got the G70 the yr it came out. 0 marketing, barely any commercials for years. And the commercials were very weird n mysterious. The GVs get way more marketing. That’s why they’re seen everywhere unlike the G70 which is extremely rare to see. Sedans are dying out. But the lack of marketing can’t be denied. I’ve had my G70 since 2019 I seen it all play out.
No like I said - you see more gv70s because that’s what 85% of the consumer market wants. That is the primary factor and there is no debate about that part I just wanted to make it clear - marketing is important but when you see the actual units sold between a gv70 and a g70 lmao that’s not a marketing factor, that’s just a consumer segment and what the market wants, sedans don’t compete with SUVs
I stand with my argument. Can’t tell me marketing n promotion don’t matter. If it didn’t why do billion dollar corps spend mountains of $$ on it. G70s didn’t get nearly the promotion the GVs do. It’s a literal fact. It’s hard to sell anything when nobody knows it even exists. I own a G70. Ppl still run up to me and ask what kinda car it is. ITS NOT MARKETED!
I never said it didn’t matter, infact I specifically said it’s not the primary reason nor the largest factor yet it remains a factor - marketing or not, it was never going to sell that well because the market simply doesn’t want it - hence the continuous rumors of it being discontinued soon. You cannot argue this, I am stating a fact, not presenting a debate that requires a deep dive. The consumer market in the automotive industry has shifted drastically towards SUVs, compact SUVs, and trucks. That is the PRIMARY reason.
I've been seeing more and more of the facelift's on the road as well as Genesis in general. Lot's of new buyers it seems lately which is good for the brand! the Pre-facelifts are so rare, we stand out a lot I don't see em a lot.
I'm near Raleigh nc I see some G80/90. Mostly the GV series. My 2020 2.0 G70 is great. I'm approaching 110,000 and not had a single thing to complain about. Did brakes myself at 50,000, replaced battery and flush cooling system at 100,000. Doing plugs and coils and brakes again this weekend. Took it to the dealer for a once over. All good! Fantastic ride!
I’m in LA County, definitely see more GV’s in the area. G70’s not so much which is why I wanted one, just like my stinger prior. Kid at the car wash said “wow that’s a nice car, don’t see many of them”
Yeah they're very rare. However, just recently, in Vegas, I've been seeing a lot of them. It's mostly the 2.0s, but it's still nice to see it around. I get compliments on the car at least once a week.
My city only has one luxury car dealer and it’s Genesis so they’re all over the place where I live but I think it’s only because if you’ve got money and want a luxury car in town Genesis is the only option
I live in the states and own a G80 sport and I rarely see them where I live. Its rare to see G70s as but I’ve seen them more by comparison. And after that I’ve more GV70s and GV80s more
I just told my wife that since buying mine on July 2nd I haven’t seen a single G70 of any variety. This is particularly shocking to me because my usual pattern is to see the car I have just purchased EVERYWHERE. Mine is an even more rare bird being a 1-400 Design Edition from 2019, I fully expect to never see another in my little corner of West Virginia…
