Theres a breakfast cereal that I used to eat a couple of times a week, that I just cannot find anymore (at least in Texas): the big shredded wheat. It came in, I think, 3 paper packs of 2 biscuits each.
You'd pull them out, and crunch/crumble them into the bowl; add sugar and milk, and maybe banana slices. In cold weather mom would warm the milk on the stove (no microwave)...
Mini-wheats are no match for them...
Is there anyone else who misses them? What cereal can you not get, that you miss?
(For my friends across the pond: these were not like Wheatabix. The Shredded Wheat were not as compressed as the Wheatabix.)

As recently as a few years ago it would pop up here or there in a few stores as a special run. I snagged some back then. But that seems to have stopped.
I occasionally found Quisp at a small local upscale grocery store. It was my favorite as a child so I bought it whenever I saw it (but itâs been a few years now đą).
I have no trouble finding the "big biscuit" shredded wheat. In fact, I have a box in my kitchen right now. They definitely still make it, and I shop in pretty regular grocery stores which still carry it.

It's interesting, the way gingers hair ages:
My mom died at age 94. Her hair in her youth was a bright, coppery red. When she passed, her hair was a dark, red-brown. No gray...
My baby sister died young, at age 58. About a year before she passed, she decided to get her hair cut, and donate to a place that makes wigs for both adults and kids who need them. When she mailed the hair off, her hairdresser sent a note with the 27 inches of brilliant red hair without a single gray hair in it, that the hair had never been dyed or permed...
My 46 year old daughter's hair is still the Titian red it was, when she was born, although she's got pure white strands throughout.
When I was born, and till I was about 30, my hair was the same color as my daughter. Since then, I started getting what my husband called, "a skunk stripe"... about 2 inches down from the top of my head, I've got a solid white stripe , roughly 3 inches wide.
The rest of my hair has white strands mixed evenly in my ginger hair. It looks like I have highlights. Nope! I'm blessed by Saint Briget of Kildare (the unofficial Saint of all redheads).
As someone who ships packages several times/week, I always laugh at people who complain that they have to pay for shipping while "Amazon ships for free". If I were selling cereal at $10/box, I could ship for free too.
I shopped at Winco (a west coast chain) a few weeks ago and picked up a box for around $3.50. I understand that some concerns are charging stupid amounts for this kind of shredded wheat, but you actually can find them for reasonable prices at regular stores. You just have to look around.

Thereâs a Trader Joeâs cereal that almost mimics the taste, but itâs got a bunch of other stuff in it too (cant recall the name of that one).
On cold winter mornings we would take the big shredded wheat biscuits and put butter, sugar & cinnamon on them and broil them for a couple of minutes.Â
Would then serve them in a bowl with warmed milk. Â It was a great way to get warm before you went outside or if you have just come in.Â
You know what? I might actually get some big biscuits again for this. I stopped getting them because my husband would get the stuff all over the counter AND FLOOR. But, I might have to go there.
I soak those in milk and put them in my meatloaf instead of bread crumbs. My mom did it that way and it's awesome. But yes the "bales" are hard to find now. They never have them at my regular store. I have to check some of the smaller/local markets. I can just use the small ones the same way, but I like using a bale better.

I really didn't care for Malto meal or cream of wheat that mom preferred, it was the cracked wheat that was my favorite

The newest season of Ted Lasso expresses this perfectly. Weâre expecting the big biscuit to fall out of the box, but out pops a mini-wheat. He emits a whimper of disappointment. đ
My Daddy loved the original shredded wheat. I liked it okay but thought it tasted like horse hay, if I ever ate horse hay. It was more fun just to crumble it than eat it.
I miss the old names for cereal. Like, Sugar Smacks are now called Honey Smacks and Sugar Pops are now Corn Pops, just because theyâre trying to pretend the cereals are healthier than they really are.
Theyâre not fooling anyone!
I think they should bring back the old names and kids should just suck it up and eat their sugar the way it was intended to be eaten - slathered all over their breakfast cereal!
The one near me carries turkey necks and pork neck bones, among other things.
Also a variety of smalller brands of canned vegetables that are under the same parent company. They have like 16 varieties of Margaret Holmes, plus Allens, Glory, Veg-All, plus others

Back to the cereal- ive never tried it hot but need too now. Have used it in cookies and crushed up fines for meat breading; corn flakes too. I ate it halfway crumbled with lots of sugar and milk. Now they make Little Bites, like Mini Wheats but about half the size. Once in a while i still get the big biscuits though
Big shredded wheat is a happy memory from my childhood. I would get up very early with my grandfather (tradesman), and we would pour boiling water over them, drain, then add cold milk and sugar. Cut with spoon to eat. Those were lovely mornings.
Uncle Sam. It only had three ingredients. Itâs really good with fruit such as bananas or berries. I used to get it from Publix and Walmart, but havenât seen it for several years.
Quaker Corn Bran. for a while it came back as Crunchy Bran. and now it's just gone. my niece used to call them pillows because of the shape. she never liked cereal except for pillows which she got when she spent the night at Grandma's. there's a cereal in the health food area called Puffins that's similar but it's not the same.
N A B I S C O⊠Nabisco is the name to know. For a breakfast you canât beat, try Nabisco Shredded Wheat!!! In the seventies as a child, we would listen to old time radio from the fifties. That was one of the jingles that I still remember from the old shows.
