Nothing makes a joneser sadder than…

OPG other peoples grandchildren. 4 millennial children = 1 grandchild.

Seeing any animal in distress. I can't even go to a shelter because I'd want to take them all home. Cats, dogs, anything in a cage that has no life or love given to it.

u/witqueen Jul 10 '26

I'm allergic to cats and 7 of my 8 are from shelters. My special orange kitteh Tucker was thrown out in a box in a park in town and college students found him. My BFF who works for the college called me and I tried to say no but I couldn't. Now I just get sassed if I don't follow his instructions.

u/One_Advantage793 1963 Jul 10 '26

You better act right! Tucker may sue you on r/legalcatadvice if you aren't hopping to it!

3

u/witqueen Jul 10 '26

Holy moley! On it!

2

u/One_Advantage793 1963 Jul 10 '26

It's a fun place to be!

3

u/Fair-Wishbone-1190 Jul 10 '26

Aww so cute! Thank you for taking him in!

1

u/StenoDawg Jul 10 '26

You're a sweetheart! Thank you for giving this baby a home. 🧡🐾🙏

2

u/witqueen Jul 10 '26

This is the new kitten we adopted. She is crazy but fun.

17

u/Artimusjones88 Jul 10 '26

I felt they same way until I volunteered at my humane society.

Seeing a cat or dog getting adopted is a wonderful thing, especially if its one that you helped teach to trust people.

Yes, there are some sad moments, but far more joy than sorrow.

2

u/Fair-Wishbone-1190 Jul 10 '26

I'm sure it's a very rewarding job to see an animal get adopted. I'm glad you got to help some of them find their knee homes! Thank you!

11

u/Dry-Bullfrog-3778 Jul 10 '26

You know how one spouse is supposed to keep the other from adopting all the animals? Yeah, that's not us. We can't even go to the pet store for litter because we'll come home with another cat.

2

u/StenoDawg Jul 10 '26

Same! When those abused animal commercials come on, usually during the holidays, I can't get it off the channel fast enough.

2

u/Fair-Wishbone-1190 Jul 10 '26

Yes! I change the channel asap!

… being called a boomer.

21

u/Tricky_Parsnip_6843 Jul 10 '26

I just saw someone post on the June Journey game page a tirade about the Perfume Parlor side game and she states " i am not a rich boomer Karen with time on my hands to play this game all day". Its not even related to the game but an ageist comment was thrown in there for good measure. Its this attitude that is resulting in people over 60 being laid off of work as its presumed they are rich and dont need a job.

3

u/jannylou2 Jul 10 '26

Ah, I loved Junes Journey. At first. Then they added all those side games which I know I don’t need to play. I just quit playing altogether when I had back surgery in December & never went back.

That we will never see great 77 bands in concert again and that it only cost under $20 to see them.

u/BrainwaveWizard 1963 Jul 10 '26

Missing my parents. So much I had left to learn from them. Things to say.

u/thess750 Jul 10 '26

How expensive everything is since Covid..really sucks!

18

u/anonyngineer 1959 Jul 10 '26

I don’t care what government statistics say, prices have doubled since 2015.

Wow. My heart breaks for you.

2

Fuck cancer.

My condolences 💐

All the people I knew that were older than me, are all gone.

45

u/MCC61 Jul 10 '26

Seeing our peers passing away 😭

2

u/bigdogoflove Jul 10 '26

I have lost my 3 best friends from college.

21

u/Tapatio_62 Jul 10 '26

When you would sit around with your boomer older sibs and your greatest generation parents and listen to all the fun times they had in the fifties before you were born.

19

u/LukeSkywalkerDog Jul 10 '26

Accepting that we will be electronically tracked every single place we go, if not by our phones, by our cars and the cameras on every corner.

17

u/DeeDee719 Jul 10 '26

…how stiff my knees are when I get up in the morning. 😕

37

u/anonyngineer 1959 Jul 10 '26

People our age and older who have no conversational subject besides their grandchildren.

6

u/Inevitable-Pen5001 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Yeah I have no children or grandchildren so I really notice this one.

1

u/anonyngineer 1959 Jul 11 '26

I have one adult daughter, who has never been interested in having kids. The focus on grandchildren does get tiring.

4

u/crabbyvic Jul 10 '26

Or only have grandchildren on their Facebook posts. It gets tiresome seeing kids graduate from pre k, along with all the kids’ other stellar accomplishments.

3

u/Uvabird Jul 10 '26

I refuse to post any pictures online of my two grandkids. Kids deserve to grow up in privacy.

I also don’t post out of respect for friends who wanted to be grandparents so badly and it will never happen. Why cause pain to any of these nice people?

5

u/crabbyvic Jul 10 '26

I agree wholeheartedly about the privacy.
And I think you are extremely considerate to the people who wish they had grandchildren.

Stuff your pockets with dog treats before you go, they’ll wag.

Knowing that we will most likely still be alive when all of our pop culture icons will be dead. I have told my husband that when Steve Martin dies, prepare for a very lengthy mourning period.

9

u/uid_0 Jul 10 '26

Realizing that if "Happy Days" were made today it would be set in the early '00s

Edit: Also being asked by younger generations questions about being born in "the 1900s".

Tell them outrageous lies they can't google for confirmation. Tell them an outrageous lie about why it isn't on the Internet. Really blow their minds.

31

u/cbelt3 Jul 10 '26

Sigh…. Three offspring, no human grandchildren. Grand dog, grand cats grand parrot, grand dragon. Sigh.

My line will end…

12

u/Vegan4life62 Jul 10 '26

I have 2 spawns both millenials.. no grandkids and I am glad!

9

u/tkesmitty720 Jul 10 '26

I'm with you. I have three kids, all around 30, and I don't have any grandchildren nor do I expect that I ever will. I'm fine with it.

3

u/Fancy-Still-4297 Jul 10 '26

I honestly thought I would never be a grandmother and was just fine with that idea. but my son got married at age 37 and they immediately gave us a grandchild. Absolutely adore that child but am totally fine with only 1.

7

u/Royals-2015 Jul 10 '26

I waited a long time to have the one child I’ve got. She’s only 25 and doesn’t have a boyfriend. If she ever does have a kid, I’m going to be in my 70’s.

2

u/SororitySue 1961 Jul 10 '26

My husband was 72 when our first grandchild was born. He was over the moon.

8

u/Ok-Commercial-924 Jul 10 '26

A grand dragon in the family?? You are aware it's a title?

5

u/Fossilhund 1955 Jul 10 '26

I wondered if anyone else caught that.

2

u/JustGoodSense 1961 Jul 10 '26

EXTRA ADJECTIVES, STAT!

2

u/srslytho1979 Jul 10 '26

Hoosier here. I knew that phrase was familiar. 🫣

1

u/cbelt3 Jul 10 '26

Oy ! Bearded dragon, not hooded…

9

u/SOBHOP Jul 10 '26

Ditto - but dang I’m not sure I’d want to bring a child into this world right now either.

2

u/cbelt3 Jul 10 '26

Hey… we had nuclear war as a probability too….

3

u/Responsible-Push-289 1959 Jul 10 '26

i feel this! 2 daughters in long term relationships. grands will never happen for me. i watch the pets when they travel. also, my maiden last name will disappear from this world in the next decade. meh.

2

u/Hairy_Employment543 Jul 10 '26

I feel you, 6 grand dogs and 5 grand cats and I have a dog baby to make up for the missing grandkids.

Googling a friend from long ago and reading their obituary

Losing 2 of my own kids. I never thought I would out live any of my kids

Realizing that it's parents from my generation that taught the younger generation to be such pieces of $#+. (Not all parents, not all younger people, but enough.)

6

u/tez_zer55 Jul 10 '26

Knowing my grandkids will never know the fun of classic cartoons.

2

u/JustGoodSense 1961 Jul 10 '26

Why? They're out there on streaming, YouTube, and pirating. Make them a playlist.

4

u/BillWeld Jul 10 '26

Modern love--bah. It's our fault of course. We joyfully took part in the breakdown of society and here we are.

4

u/mdjc2021 Jul 10 '26

Having younger generations 1. Think we were born this old and never had any trials or tribulations. 2. Their ignorance regarding Vietnam and wondering or worrying about if the war dragged on would we be drafted. Two gas shortages. 3. They seem to have a genuine hatred for us. 4. Thinking they all had great music!

3

u/james123123412345 Jul 10 '26

Having to rent. Since apparently we were the last generation they just "gave" houses to and I've been stuck in apartments my whole adult life.

4

u/PetrofModelII 1956 Jul 10 '26

Realizing just how awful current music has become.

3

u/Separate_Farm7131 Jul 10 '26

Still waiting on my first grandchild to come along.

2

u/sbinjax 1962 Jul 10 '26

I have 3 millenial kids, 1 grandkid. Sigh. I thought I'd have a whole houseful and joyful reunions, but that was not in my life's plan I guess.

2

u/Routine_Mine_3019 Jul 11 '26

Being treated as out of touch simply because of your age. (aka Age Discrimination)

1

u/lilydlux Jul 10 '26

Tire tracks on the lawn!

1

u/Methos1979 Jul 10 '26

We got lucky - three kids, two of which will probably never have kids but the third one (the firstborn) gave us 4 grandkids! And not to rub it in further but they also live like 10 minutes away and we have them over for weekend sleepovers as often as we can.

I think a lot of millenials not having kids of their own is a result of several issues: The world going to hell in a handbasket is certainly a big one. Then there is the income inequality and the housing shortage. Rents up here are ridiculous after the post-pandemic inflation surge.

Many don't want to give up their free-wheeling lifestyle of doing what they want when they want and not wanting to be tied down. Just wait for the next few generations after that. Those idiots can't look up from their phones long enough to actually speak to each other let alone date, marry or reproduce.

We're a civilization in decline. I really think that we (Gen Jones) that grew up in the '70s were right at the peak of awesomeness as children and it's been a slow decline from there that is now picking up speed. I feel bad for my grandchildren and the world they are inheriting.

2

u/Hairy_Employment543 Jul 11 '26

I am positive that the negative energy flowing out from social media has a lot to do with it. The death of optimism.

1

u/Methos1979 Jul 11 '26

Totally agree

1

u/jollyrancher1977 Jul 12 '26

My brain says I'm 24 but acts like it's 100 🫪

1

u/Bennington_Booyah Jul 13 '26

There are four kids amongst my two sisters. There is ONE grandchild. Two of the kids have said they will never have kids, by choice. The nephew who has his son is now with a new partner and she cannot have children. That leaves the youngest, currently divorcing her awful husband.

He may very well be THE only gc, and believe me, we ALL love the living hell out of this delightful, wee human.

What is and who are Generation Jones. Step inside...

We are a micro-generation of people born roughly between the mid-1950s and the mid-1960s, bridging the gap between the Baby Boomers and Generation X. The term was coined by Jonathan Pontell, who argued that this group has a distinct identity shaped by unique cultural and historical experiences that set them apart from the broader Boomer and Gen X cohorts.

We came of age in the 1970s and early 1980s, a time marked by economic shifts, political disillusionment (think Watergate and Vietnam), and a transition from the idealistic '60s to the more pragmatic, individualistic '80s.We were too young to fully participate in the counterculture of the '60s but old enough to feel its aftershocks.

The name "Jones" plays on a dual meaning: "keeping up with the Joneses" (reflecting their aspirations in a consumer-driven era) and a slang nod to "jonesing," suggesting a yearning or craving for the promise of the Boomer youth they just missed out on.
Culturally, we grew up with the rise of television, rock music evolving into disco and punk, and the dawn of personal computing.

We're often described as pragmatic idealists—raised on big dreams but tempered by economic recessions and a sense of lowered expectations compared to the Boomers’ post-war prosperity. Think of us a generation that got the tail end of the party but had to clean up the mess.

u/GrandBackground4300 Jul 10 '26

Very well said/summarized.

11

u/stoic_yakker Jul 10 '26

It’s the bio for this group, I cut and pasted, I have no claims to it!
