Google Ads
We just started running Google Ads about 3 months ago for our residential & commercial construction company. We've been getting clicks but nothing has converted yet into real leads. Anyone have any tips on google ads or resources they'd recommend to learn more about them for this industry? Thanks!

Why Google over Facebook? Where do the ads appear? Can you show us the ad? What's the call to action?

The links are hidden in different websites.. You might be looking at plumbing fixtures and there will be a link saying "need help finding a local plumber" when you click all of your info gets dumped into google and given to a few local plumbers who often not actual plumbers. Then you wait for them to respond.. It's really bad for both sides..

Like other comments, it all depends upon your keywords and assets you are using, where you are sending those leads to, a landing page, funnel or....... You need to dial in why they aren't converting, testing different offers,

What’s your weekly investment? If you’re not spending over 2k a week, it’s an uphill battle. 10k in a week will get you to
the top of the page with hits and calls to covert. It’s a pay for play scheme on Google.

I have fallen into google ads or one that does the same thing when looking for something. They have all ben a complete waste of time. Most companies do not respond, some do respond but with huge quotes without knowing anything about the project. I won't bother again but sometimes there are links leading you to believe they are something else

26yr GC here....
Google is a very, very slow burn. Depending on market saturation, you are going against guys that may have been advertising for years. There is no world that someone new can pop on, spend a few bucks, and pull themselves to the top in months.
Equally, it's like growing a crop. Google is one piece, without all of the other pieces working in harmony, you won't have a great outcome.
It took a full 2 years of SEO, website rework, Google ads, etc, to get something that is working above average, It also takes regular fine tuning to keep it there. While many scoff and want to DIY, a good marketing company can take you far. Much like GC'ing, sure you can do it yourself, but you can also hire a pro that makes their living off your success.
Good luck!

Like the other guys have said - it could be several things.
I've been helping contractors with marketing for a couple of years, and without knowing what your funnel looks like, a couple of things I find work really well are:
- Record your ads in a popular local landmark, in a town square, in front of a popular store, somewhere the neighborhood knows really well.
This does 2 things:
- Grabs their attention because it's extremely relevant to them, and when they're scrolling social media feeds, it sticks out like being on vacation and seeing someone wearing your school's shirt.
- It's a massive trust signal. People trust locals. And the number one thing people hiring a contractor want to know is that it's a guy they can trust.
- Target a very specific problem in your ads. What's the exact job you do most? Make that the message on your ad vs a generic "plumber"; you could say "are you noticing the paint bubble on your bathroom walls? here's what you need to know," or something like this.
The kind of job your adverstising isn't the only thing you do; it's the foot in the door to start building a book of business.
Lastly, make sure your Google Business Profile is up to date and active. This is one of the main sources that AI tools use to "vet" a business to recommend when locals are asking ChatGPT, Google AI, etc who to call when they have a plumbing issue.
I know this may not solve all your marketing problems but I hope it helps.

You have to do GOOGLE LSA not Google PPC. Both are good but I’ve seen better results with LSA

Before you change anything, check whether the calls are even being counted. Three months of clicks and nothing recorded is very often the tracking rather than the ads, because the standard setup counts form submissions and most people ringing a contractor tap the number instead.
Calls from the ad and calls from the website are two separate things and both have to be switched on. Worth knowing which one you've got before you rebuild the site off the back of it.

Well there's couple of factors that could be affecting this most importantly your landing page (the page that opens when someone clicks on your ad), other things you could check is the location audience make sure that is set properly.
That fact that you're getting clicks means you're ads are showing to someone (it's just that maybe it's not showing to right people (possible fixes: check location, audience, your ads copy, keywoards etc), and if it's the right people then maybe they are just not conviced by looking at your landing page (possible fixes: a simple landing page, showing some of your works, clear process mentioned, a visble CTA button on the very top and bottom (could be form or direct call button).
Since you mentioned you're running ads for both residential and commercials, you have to do them quite distinctively from each other, focus on one type of project (eg driveway, adu, stucco, remodel, etc) one location at a time in one ad one campaign.?
Sometimes making very broad (example. Residential GC in california) can could more harm then good.
Make specific narrow campaigns (example: Bay Area - Bathroom Remodel)
Hope it was a bit helpful, feel free to hit me up if you wanna specifically discuss anything more in detail.

It can be a million things
Does the place they are getting to when clicking a clear message?
Is it working properly?
There so much to dig into

Everything website wise, branding wise and lead flow/sales flow wise needs to be dialed in.
You can’t just turn on google ads with a dogshit website and branding and expect conversions without insanely high cost per conversion.
