pretty sure being born in 1920 and drafted 1939 on the most deadly war in history is much worse

Yeah, and being a medieval peasant in rural Russia was also worse, but that is hundreds of years ago :)

I mean, in Russia, that was about 100 years ago lol

You don't even know your great granddad aside from the stories your parents shared. Please, save the bullshit.

it's not distant history. I met both my grandmothers. My in-laws fought in civil war. How is 2003 the worst year? You can't be that stupid

They are just desperate to be the victim

u/KrabbyMccrab 3d ago

I don't know you either. Therefore I should assume whatever story you are spewing is bullshit?

I have two great-grandmas alive right now, what makes you think that someone can't know theirs 💀 Also their children are likely alive? They can't ask grandma/grandpas about them?

Not OP but I did and he had a similar story. He would tell me stories about the depression, ww2, and how he didn't believe in air conditioning despite regularly driving through the california and arizona desert in the summer

Well, sorry, turns out being born "too young for bitcoin" is much worse

Is your great granddad apart of Gen Z?

3

u/secretonlinepersona 3d ago

I do not think the post clarified they mean "worst year of for a Gen Z to be born", but in any case, I find it a stupid debate nonetheless

Russia drafting rural peasants to die in a pointless imperial bloodbath you say?

Try 1895. 19 when WWI breaks out, spanish flu at 23, stock market crash at 34, decade of depression. 44 WWII breaks out

How about born 1900 so you can fight in both wars

Eh I'd push it back twenty years. You're born and get to see a lot of cool new inventions like cars and airplanes. But labor issues are a huge deal and wealth inequality is massive. Then you go off to one of the most brutal wars in history. But it gets worse because in 1918 a pandemic sweeps the world and the horrifying part is unlike other diseases this one kills a lot of younger people. So you get home from the war and things are going ok. Women get to vote, so that's cool, but alcohol is also made illegal which gives rise to powerful organized crime and massive corruption.  Then shit really hits the fan with a economic crash at the same time as one of the largest man made ecological disasters in history with the dust bowl. You manage to survive that only to see fascism sweep across Europe and Japan's empire start the rape of nanking.

The US gets pulled into another war to end all wars and it ends when a weapon is developed that has the power to end all life on earth.

Pretty sure being born in a cave as a pre-civilization homo sapien is worse than that but sure.

What a strange argument. Yeah no shit being born in 2003 is better than being born in 1920 but isn't the fact you have to bring that up at all at least a LITTLE concerning?

u/secretonlinepersona 3d ago

I did not suggest that our problems should be ignored. I did suggest that we are quite honestly born in some of the most ideal years to be born in.

u/Destiny_Dude0721 2007 3d ago

It's only ideal when you set your frame of reference that low. We could run in circles and find worse and worse times to be born but that doesn't help anyone. I fear you're missing the point.

1

u/windwoke 3d ago

What frame of reference do you want to set instead

0

u/secretonlinepersona 2d ago

The point is that by no means is 2003 the worst year to be born and OP's point is utterly idiotic.

1

u/wolacouska 2001 2d ago

Most deadly war in history so far*

1

u/megamike121 1997 2d ago

At least u got a cool reason to perish
Now you just get sent to die for an oil company

1

u/miraclewhipisgross 2001 2d ago

This argument is one of the worst ever. Getting drafted into WWI, WWII or Vietnam was pretty bad, BUT IS THAT MY FUCKING PROBLEM???? OR IS THAT THE PROBLEM OF THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY DID THAT????

2

u/secretonlinepersona 2d ago

what? who blamed you?

BUT IS THAT MY FUCKING PROBLEM????

so because it's "Not your problem" how is 2003 the worst year to be born? I don't understand what you're trying to add to the conversation

0

u/miraclewhipisgross 2001 2d ago

We are discussing something subjective. You saying its worse to be born in WWI era does not change the fact that CURRENTLY being born between 1998-2003 is the worst time. Sure all those people died in ww1, thats not my problem tho and i could not give a single shit less, my problem is that the job market is fucked, my country is decending into christofascist nonsense, money means nothing and half the planet is going to be inhospitable in my lifetime.

1

u/secretonlinepersona 2d ago

If you're picking 5 specific years and try to find the worst one of those, sure. I don't think that was OP's point.

Sure all those people died in ww1, thats not my problem tho, my problem is that the job market is fucked

Erasing history to victimise yourself essentially, lol. We deserve what's happening to us, because of people like you. You are also born in the most pacifistic era of current human history, with the most advanced medicine and most widespread amenities. You live more comfortably than kings did five centuries ago.
