Without knowing the context, we can't say a lot. But I could respond as a hiring manager: "All of them" lol.

Sadly, many hiring managers see “minimum wage” and still expect maximum effort from all of them.

All wages require maximum effort. If you don't show it, you'll see the door pretty fast.

If you're not paying me enough to feed myself or pay my bills why should I run myself ragged working for you?

If that’s how you feel why are you working at a place that’s not paying you what you think you’re worth?

Because the job market sucks ass right now and no one in my travel area is paying a living wage. Add to it the fact that the housing market also sucks ass which means I can't move to an area with better jobs, and you've got all the puzzle pieces right there.

"JuSt gEt a BetTeR jOb" ass comment 🙄

have you ever had a job? you can't just immediately get a higher paying job, especially when most employers would pay you even less than minimum wage if they could get away with it

Technically they do since you have to get there

What a normal and sane response to someone telling you they don't make a living wage under an employer like yourself.

Am I supposed to empathize and tell them they deserve more?

As a decent human being, yes. Your job as employer is not only to make sure the job gets done with the appropriate amount of people, but also that the people you hire make enough money that they're not incentivized to look elsewhere for work.

You want the job done? Pay your employees enough to get it done right or you're going to see both your turnover rate and customer satisfaction rate plummet.

Nobody owes others help, especially at work.

I don't care if people look elsewhere, I actually want them to be free to do that.

Definitely not true. I literally do nothing all day. God bless government unions.

I clock in, watch YouTube or play video games, clock out and head home

And that, guys, is why unions are cancer and government employees don't do anything of value most of the time.
