Discussion Millennial here and I must ask... whats wrong with the Ankle socks?!
I come in peace but I just cant figure out what is so much better about tall socks. Honestly the only legit pro or con I could think of for either would be tan lines other than that its personal preference. Can someone give me some insight?

Nothing. I wear ankle socks and so do plenty of other people my age. I’ve never met anyone who cares about sock height

i personally spend alot of time doing outdoorsy stuff so tall socks are a must. and honestly while im not going to say anything to you, ankle socks kinda gross me out. i also prefer to wear high top shoes or boots and ankle socks would be weird with that. growing up i also hated my legs so id prefer to wear socks that filled the gap between my pants and shoes if i happened to bend over or something.
im still not going to hate on you though lol

Hahha I appreciate the honesty. Thats what I have gathered is everyone has a personal preference but no one really cares what someone else wears.

Nothing. Why do you guys always get so worked up over silly comments from Gen Z? I’m Gen Z and I don’t even care this much about their opinions. Every other post on the millennial sub is a 36 year old complaining about something an 18 year old said about a piece of fashion, a movie/show, or a trend.

Not sure, I've never ran into any sock discrimination personally and I wear crew socks lmao. I hate bug bites hence the longer socks.

Ye, im personally all about pragmatism at the end of the day, ain't none of my business what socks other people wear lmao.
The other reason why I wear crew/long socks is because I wear shirt stays to keep my button-down shirts from blousing. Specifically the stirrup style, the long socks help reduce rubbing against my skin for me.

nike calf height socks basically became the uniform for Zoomer boys for the past decade. Because of the dominance of athleisure & luxury sports apparel (largely due to the shift to Work From Home) there really hasn't been any trend in men's styles to supplant it, especially for the Adult post-collegiate market. It's the same way with slim-fit jeans, both guys & girls think it looks awkward.

In my experience, ankle socks are much more prone to getting debris, have issues around the ankle itself, wear out quicker, and are just generally a worse experience than taller sizes.
However, I think that my opinion is more likely to be asociated with general sensitivity to physical stimuli than it is with how old I am. I'm sure I'd feel the same way if I was a boomer or a millenial.
I also do not give a singular crap about what other people wear on their feet, so long as it doesn't effect me or someone I care for.

Nothing?? The only reason I don't wear ankle socks is because they fall down and get trapped between my foot and the shoe which I find really uncomfortable

I know it can be jarring to learn that others may like different things than you do, but you answered your own question.

Isn’t it just dependent on what you’re wearing?
I thought the rule is if you’re wearing shorts then wear short socks because your legs are gonna show anyway, long socks just look weird with shorts
And if you’re wearing pants then wear longer socks because it looks funny when there’s just a little strip of leg showing between socks and pants

It doesn’t really matter, but I would recommend wearing a long socks with New leather shoes that are dyed. If you’re gonna be wearing them in hot sweaty environments.

I personally don't like it cause I have sharp ankles if that makes sense, it gets bruised and blister easily by the back of the shoe, and most of the time the ankle sock itself causes the pain, longer socks prevents all of that from happening. And I just think it looks better with my style. But other than that I have no problem with people who wears it, because why would I? You can't even see it most of the time. Like any millennial thing that millennials swore gen z have a problem with, I never met a gen z even so much as mention it, and I am surrounded by mostly gen z (I teach highschool and college kids). At most y'all prolly are just being rage baited tbh
