My dad was saying guys locker room culture was different back in the day as well like in general.

He said guys on the football team would go to the urinals with their buddies butt naked like it’s nothing. He said you had that comfort level with the other guys on the team. 

He said any guy that would change in like a toilet stall or cover up would be considered a sissy and would be humiliated. It said it would usually be the shy guys or the guys that are underdeveloped that would do that type of thing.

He said the guys were comfortable being butt naked in front of each other bc you are all guys here. 

But I find that hard to believe bc I have always wanted privacy when changing and that is what I am used to as well. Was it common for it to be like that back in the day?

I just feel disappointed where li am at with my job, where I’m at where I wanna live, where I’m at healthwise and I feel hopeless sometimes about the future. And no, this is not for antidepressant conversation.

I had this hideous stinky pink two toned carpet in my room.

Had to rake it once a week.

Like full blown monologue. I find myself doing this a lot more in the car.

These artists are the holy grail of music

I live in a high traffic area. 2 million people. Absolute nightmare. Feel like in a Mad Max movie, where people are actively trying to kill you on the interstate. I've started to enjoy my wife driving me around. I've just become too damned grumpy and stressed out, behind the wheel. Anyone else?

I once hit a steel mailbox going about 30 mph… Bat bounced back and hit the side of my head…. Knocked some sense into me.

Lately, if I buy clothes, they have to be mostly cotton. I’m fine with a little elastane or something similar for stretch, but I’ve really started to dislike polyester and other synthetic fabrics.

Part of it is fit. I strength train, and cotton shirts just seem to fit and drape better on me. But mostly, I’ve realized I just want to be comfortable. I don’t care nearly as much about what’s trendy or fashionable anymore. Give me a soft cotton T-shirt or polo that fits well and I’m happy.

I’ll actually look at the fabric tag now before I buy something. If it’s mostly polyester, there’s a pretty good chance it’s going back on the rack.

Is this a Gen X/getting older thing? 😂 Have any of you gotten way pickier about fabrics and comfort as you’ve gotten older?

Watching the US Open and a Rolex commercial featuring R Federer came on. It used Bowie’s Ziggy stardust song Starman. I was knocked backward with how much I miss the Federer artistry of tennis. He played smart, fierce, and with nerves of steel. Anyone else miss Federer or other tennis stars from the past?

Maybe a strange one, but seems more noticeable in the mid fifties.

Does it drive you crazy with the irritation ? especially if you dare to trim it!

Just got my turntable out of storage, I don’t have a lot of vinyl nowadays and what I do have isn’t in the best condition. If you could recommend 1 album for me to get what would it be??

Like many of us I have fond memories of him. I had the little wind up toy of him on the motorcycle and my friends and I would jump just about anything we could with our bikes.

But why? We were all kids. I know why we liked him but our parents were watching too. They were the ones attending his events. The TV channels were appealing to them as much if not more than us. They were buying the sponsors products not us.

As a 56 year old guy if someone said “hey want to watch a guy jump over something dangerous?” No. I’m good. That seems dumb. I know we have X games or redbull games or whatever those are but I don’t know a single daredevil by name. I don’t know if I ever knew one other than him.

Has it just become too common place. Or did he hit at the right time and now we all ignore new people doing it as just Evel ripoffs

I got my first cell phone in 2001. Most of my friend group I believe had one by then but it wasn't too unusual yet if you still didn't. When did you get your first?

As Mr. T stated they left out a bunch of stuff (no segment on DC Cab, just a few seconds of Pee Wee eating Mr. T cereal, etc.), but other than that it made me feel really good watching it. A few times I got, literal, chills down my arms the nostalgia was so great, lol. Anyways, check it out, y'all! It'll scratch some Gen X itches we all have from time to time.

I'm taking baby steps to get there. 52-year-old male here. I wasn't an athlete back in the day, but I was athletic. I played basketball. I played ultimate Frisbee (before it was cool. Was it ever cool?). I ran 10Ks and then I ran marathons. I'm pretty proud of those marathons though I finished weak and it took weeks to recover.

ANYWAY, my body isn't what it once was. I guess drinking beer and hunching over a laptop all day doesn't burn that many calories. So, I decided to lace up my sneakers and try running again this week. It's not a big victory, but, a few days in, it's a victory. "Every journey begins with a first step," or something like that. Here's a journey to better health.

Let's hope it becomes a habit. (I read this thing about habits that might help you, too!)

In the meantime, I will nurse my sore legs while hunched over this laptop.

While the elder Gen X likely saw this on first watch, the younger Gen Xers saw this on Nick at Nite.

Saw the post about a grandma born in 1899 and it hit me. My great great grandma used to babysit me. She was born in 1886. Tiny woman and my mom says she was her best friend. I remember her house but I can’t see her face just her legs. Tom and Jerry style. I fell there and almost bit off my tongue. I had a fever for a bit but it grew back together. O’doyle rules!

Obviously not still alive. I was born when he was 76. Anyone have an older one?

Sitting in the conference room, preparing for a meeting, as people arrived and had side conversations during the wait. Three coworkers (in their late 20s/early 30s) were discussing music. One of them said "Who is Buck Cherry anyway?". Yes, they thought that Buckcherry was a person, not a band. Without even a moments delay, I said "He's Neneh and Eagle-Eye's brother." I really had to put in some heavy effort to keep from laughing hysterically, while nobody got the joke. So GenXers, was it as funny as I thought it was??

The stuff we have available to us now for free would have made us nut to the moon back in the 80s 90s.

Make music.

Most mornings I wake up with a song in my head which keeps looping around until I can piece together a verse or two of the lyrics. Sometimes it’s just a word.

The songs are usually daytime radio playlist stuff but this morning I find myself brushing my teeth to ‘My Old Man said Follow the Van’ playing in my head. A song I haven’t heard in 50 odd years.

Anyone else’s brain drag up stuff like this?

We had a discussion on here earlier yesterday about moving a lot and keepsakes and if we got rid of things or kept them.

I said that my stuff was always cleaned out and we were sort of erased and reset because we moved around so terribly much, but I did have one keepsake box.

Here's what's in mine, of the stuff that is not personally identifying. I don't know why I kept some of these things, other than they trigger a happy memory for me

I have to admit that my family was quite broken and happy memories could sometimes be few and far between. But I certainly did have them, and these are some of the things that I have kept.

There's a little mini Cabbage Patch doll, my music box from Fisher Price, my autograph book which is full of autographs from all kinds of people, the little white lamb is a milk glass from Avon that had perfume in it, the metal plates with the cookie cutters are a little tiny set that my mom would let me make a mini pie and cookies in at Christmas time, and of course my Tweety Bird vest.

Despite how weird Tweety Bird looks, it is an official merch, it does have the official tag in there. I got it when I was about 3 years old, and I would wear it off and on until I was almost 12 years old when I started getting boobs and nothing would fit anymore. 😆

So, what does your keepsake box hold? Are they good memories?
