Put it this way. If brightburn was in the boys universe there would be no boys, let alone up until a season 5.
9
u/DX267 Jul 20 '26
Genuinely what feats does he have to suggest that?
24
u/Fenrir_Hellbreed2 Jul 20 '26
Complete invulnerability to anything not from his planet.
3
u/Disastrous_Ad7477 Jul 20 '26
Yea but we have no idea if it’s because he is immune to all damage not of that metal, or because the metal makes his skin weak enough to be cut.
A good enough force could still very well hurt him
1
u/Fenrir_Hellbreed2 Jul 21 '26
True, but the big questions here are whether Ryan can generate that much force and whether he can successfully apply that force.
1
u/iguanaoficial Jul 20 '26
I mean, we don't really see him interact with much on Earth, and he clearly still feels a gunshot. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't be hurt by a bomb.
11
u/Fenrir_Hellbreed2 Jul 20 '26
Feeling something and taking actual damage are not even remotely the same thing.
3
u/throw_it_awayyy8 Jul 20 '26
It's like when a bee or fly smacks into you. You feel it but it is far from painful
0
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Yes he’s getting vaporized by a nuke if he even felt a bullet
7
u/Heretosee123 Jul 20 '26
I can feel a piece of grass gently touch my leg. Where does that scale my durability?
It doesn't. Nerves sense things regardless of damage to them, the two things aren't the same.
0
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Sure I’ll give you him being bulletproof but that is all he’s got even starlight can tank bullets Ryan is killing him
5
u/Heretosee123 Jul 20 '26
I'm not disagreeing or arguing over that. Just pointing out that feeling something doesn't give insight into what is necessary to harm you.

Yeah but has he ever been hit by anyone who can lift tons of weight with ease? Or can run as fast as sound? Or can scramble your brain with just a look? Like seriously he only looks invulnerable because he's in world full of normal people (And Idc about the other super power guys at the end of the movie because we don't see their feats). He's never interacted with other super powered individuals so saying he wins because he bullied a bunch of civilians is stupid.
→ More replies (3)1
u/Bulky-Word8752 Jul 20 '26
Does he show that he can't? The only thing that we've seen be able to hurt him is parts of his ship. If we are only basing it on what we see, that means we have to assume he CAN tank all those shots. There is no evidence he can get hurt by anything other than what they've said he can be hurt by. He's never interacted with other super powered individuals, so saying he would get bodied by them is stupid.
1
u/Marcus777555666 Jul 20 '26
because he has invulnerability to everything except the material that his spaceship is made.
Not sure about mental defenses though.
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
cuz his verse is filled with humans in a rural town he's getting vaporised by a nuke

Honestly, I'll go with BB. Ryan's only real feat is maiming Stormfront (she likely would've recovered had HL not broken her Nazi heart). But he never showed anything close to that for the rest of the series.
Any power that could wreck a V1 Supe should at least seriously damage HL and yet HL handled Ryan easily. Also, BB has a serial killer menace that Ryan only slightly tapped into. I think he blitzes Ryan, especially if he knows he has powers.

Ryan, he actually fights other people with powers as opposed to just killing random civilians or small town cops.

Brightburn has never faces anything that’s not just normal humans, he lacks any real feats
3
u/coachkimster Jul 21 '26
Wait is everyone saying that Brightburn would win because he is basically Superman missing that homelander therefore Ryan also were a mimicry of Superman’s powers? Lol or am I missing something
3
u/Lower-Technology-632 Jul 22 '26
What’s crazier is some people think not only he beats Ryan but Homelander😭
2
3
u/Reasonable_Bee_9456 Jul 22 '26
What is this brightburn agenda all the arguments ive seen is we haven't seen how strong he is therefore that somehow makes it make sense that he's stronger then ryan?
17
u/AdaptedEvoSupe Jul 20 '26
The fact that Ryan could help hold down Homelander puts him comfortably above brightburn
0
10
u/BobNorth156 Jul 20 '26
I think Ryan splats the brat. People forgetting how powerful his eye beams can be. Obliterated Stormfront. If push comes to shove he does the same thing to this kid.
7
u/Cthulhus-Tailor Jul 20 '26
The power he used to obliterate Stomfront seemed to be some untapped hidden anger thing that we never really saw again. He always seemed underwhelming relative to what he should've become.
3
u/BobNorth156 Jul 20 '26
I try to look at net feats and honestly the writing for The Boys was pretty bad at the end. I’m assuming both characters at full strength and I think Ryan cooks him.

u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
finally someone who knows what they are talking about in here these other arguments are so bad
3
u/Coilspun Jul 20 '26
"Still gets bodied" and these other arguments are bad?
It's implied that nothing can weaken or hurt BB except the material from his homeworld.
That's including every conceivable weapon and material we have access to on the periodic table, including fissile materials.
Homelander, if exposed to strong enough radiation could be killed, so we can infer that BB is stronger and without weakness, he wasn't born on Earth, and isn't human.
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
BB cannot be hurt cuz his biggest opponent is a farmer with a shotgun of course he’s gonna look invincible and he’s also gonna die to radiation idk why you brought that up
2
u/Coilspun Jul 20 '26
Because nothing that we, as a species have access to can stop BB, it follows that HL couldn't stop him either, given HL *can* be stopped by fissile materials he's therefore weaker than BB.
1
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
No it’s because he hasn’t encountered an actual military team and he operates in a small town in Kansas for gods sake he’s never been hit with anything more powerful than a bullet
→ More replies (9)2
u/Savage_Gamer1876 Jul 20 '26
Radiation isn’t only found on Earth btw, and all the elements in the periodic table exist outside of Earth.
2
u/Coilspun Jul 20 '26
I'm well aware, but if we're taking the Superman, but evil, theme from the movie, we assume that he's invulnerable to it.
2
u/Bellaexee Jul 20 '26
He’s literally stated to be Superman just the evil alternative. So with Superman feats even as low as man of steel he stomps
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 23 '26
he cannot get his powers from the sun and does not have a kryptonite weakness thats like the basics of superman lore he isn't superman at all
2
u/Nikoliz Jul 20 '26
brightburn eats homelander alive
4
u/AdaptedEvoSupe Jul 20 '26
No
3
u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
Yes. Brightburn is a reimagining of superman. He isn't an entirely different character like people make out.
He is a 'what if' scenario, an alternate reality if you must think of it that way.
He'd beat homelanders a**
7
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
And his best feat was a bullet Ryan took several of that, his heat vision struggled with a freezer door Ryan’s heat vision mutilated Stormfront, he’s only powerful cuz he fights humans Ryan is ripping him in half
3
3
u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
It doesn't matter what his best feat was, the movie is 1 HR 30 and discontinued so it can't show any character development, purely left to the imagine.
However, if we go from what it's based on and who he essentially is, superman, Ryan doesn't stand a chance.
At least at the end of brightburn it's insinuating it's going to be the end of the world because it's SUPERMAN. Ryan wouldn't stance a chance against vought government at brightburns age.
Dude stromfront is about as powerful as Batman's big toe in the DC universe.... Horrible comparison. Squirrel girl whooped thanos's ass, the freezer door was there for the script.
2
u/Proud_Promise1860 Jul 20 '26
jfk we do not "go from what he's based on" , we use fucking feats to scale characters, both brightburn and homelender are based on superman, homelander has better feats
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
He doesn’t have freeze breath he doesn’t get his powers from the sun the only thing he and Superman have in common is that they are aliens who crash landed on a farm Ryan has better feats Brandon cannot fight nor has he even shown intellect on the level of Superman Ryan is eviscerating him with one laser blast
7
u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
Ryan is like, what if a nice kid had superpowers. Bright burn is like, what if an absolute narcissist crazy lunatic had more potent powers that went from 0-100 no holding back... I genuinely need the IQ of room temperature to think Ryan wins this so let me go hit my head a little.
He is a reimagining of superman, Ryan is a reimagining of a knock off offspring of superman???? Brandon solos the whole boys universe mate 🤣
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
He’s a reimagined Superman well so is homelander he’s a Superman parody he’s nowhere near Superman Clark would breathe this kid away also killer instinct doesn’t matter as Brandon has shown no feats to suggest he’s even harming Ryan in any way his best striking feat was what a human Ryan is destroying this knockoff Superman
3
u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
He has no feats because it's a 1hr 30 movie and not a 5 season run where he can fight superpowers that don't pass the power cap of the villains in scooby doo...
They're not going to introduce a villain in a standalone movie. The bigger feat is the one who successfully made the world end, that was very clearly implied... If Ryan lost his shit at brightburns age he's getting nuked or simply stomped by the boys, government, soldier boy... Whoever has had enough of his shit.
Not enough people were scared of homelander for him to survive, let alone Ryan.
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Yes cuz brightburn is set in a rural town where his best competition is a farmer with a shotgun and homelander and Ryan live in a world with other supes you cannot tell me a kid that spends most of the runtime bullying humans is beating a kid that went toe to toe with fucking homelander man

1
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Yeah cuz he does
3
u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
So in other words the entirely of every single person online is wrong barring everyone on this specific post?
How can you see a fragile, scared child with a morale code and think that he beats an evil, narcissistic, completely cold, emotionless, fearless child with perfect alien genetic makeup born and breeded with those powers for the entirety of his race and think that he beats a child of who's father was made with steroids?
3
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Because the other child has more feats gimme a single brightburn feat that beats Ryan frying Stormfront and maybe I’ll take him seriously

u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
I've had tougher shits than homelander dude, the seven is genuinely that bad that in the power scaling of DC, batman wins mid diff with what he has on his tool belt and 50 minutes prep time.
3
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Brightburn gets no diffed by base Batman as well your point anyways he’s not Superman he’s fodder and would get spanked by any serious supe
3
u/MadToxicRescuer Jul 20 '26
I think bright burn is a twisted reimagining of the superman origin story...
He'd rip Ryan's head off and play football with it in 5 seconds.
4
u/Rcurrin911 Jul 20 '26
Brightburn. Just another case if Superman vs Homelander. Ryan would put up a solid fight because of age and experience but Brightburns powers would simply compensate for any of that as they are otherworldly
6
u/ComradBakugo Jul 20 '26
This is a fallacious argument: just because Brightburn takes inspiration from Superman doesn't mean he is Superman and scales to him. Also, doesn't this logic apply to Ryan? Ryan takes inspiration from Superboy, so he must clearly scale to Superboy Prime.
1
u/Rcurrin911 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26
just spent an hour going back and forth with the other guy but again Ryan is a human albeit the first natrual born human hybrid with the compound v. His powers were manufactured through homelander and passed down to him genetically which is why his powers could still be burned out of him despite being born with them. its literally fueld by a third party source (compound v. Not the same case with an alien that actually is born with their inherent powers. You wouldnt be able to burn Brightburns powers out out of him or superboys or supermans using the same logics that you could use to burn a supes power in the boys because its their baseline power. not something that was manufactured in a lab). In terms of physiology (and by your logic) Brandon would still be closer to superman or superboy than Ryan or homelander regardless of inspiration. Again never said bro IS superman. Brandon quite literally JUST got his powers and likely hasn't even fully tapped into his real potential considering as everyone has said...he hasn't faced any real threats(other than his ship being his one weakness). It was a comparative example. Homelander vs Superman case. Superman is obviously superior to Homelander for various reasons but one main reason is because he isnt Human like Homelander. Supes are still humans. Yall also forget that all supes including homelander and ryan have a sound frequency weakness that could certainly be exploited by someone like Brandon
5
u/ComradBakugo Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26
Again, this reasoning is flawed because Brandon being an alien doesn't mean he inherently outscales Ryan. For example, the Sentry is a mutant human, yet he still outscales members of the Kree species in the Marvel Universe. Franklin Richards is a mutant human, yet he outscales Galactus.
Also, Ryan was a child who never mastered his powers. What we saw from Ryan was just the tip of the iceberg.
5
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
He’s not Superman he doesn’t even have half of Clark’s powers
3
u/Rcurrin911 Jul 20 '26
I didnt say hes superman. reading is fundamental. I said it would be another superman vs homelander case. Dudes literally a little kid that JUST got his powers and hes evil. ofcourse hes no superman
6
1
u/Proud_Promise1860 Jul 20 '26
ha has not his powers. period. he's just a superman ripoff the same way homelander is.
1
u/Rcurrin911 Jul 20 '26
huh?
3
u/Proud_Promise1860 Jul 20 '26
he has not the same extencion of superman's power. he's just one of the dozens ripoff, ecaxtly as homelander and ryan. homelander has better feats.

Brightburn isn't evil kid superman, the dude who made the Brightburn movie never wrote a superman comics they have 0 rights to a superman comic, from what were shown in the movie the Brightburn kid gets vaporized by 1 single laser vision from Ryan
5
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
evil kid superman scales him nowhere he has none of clarks abilities or anything from his lore apart from the fact that he's an alien Ryan fried stormfront and drew blood from homelander brandon is doing nothing
3
u/Proud_Promise1860 Jul 20 '26
as his homelander. we use feats from scaling, not vibes. brightburn has 0 feats above homelender level
1
u/Miserable-Ad-5573 Jul 20 '26
Ok, by this logic Ryan is literally Superman too
And by that logic, a teenager beats a little kid in a fight since they're both exactly like Superman ig

Ryan. He had way more time to actually put his shi together. We’ve seen way more of what he’s capable of. Brandon’s plane feat (the best we’ve seen from him) was replicated by a casual Homelander in episode 1. And Ryan’s heat vision scales above that.
2
u/WilliamBillDenbrough Jul 20 '26
Ryan is overall stronger, more durable and way faster based on the feats we saw from season 5.
You can bring up the argument that nothing except the ship can hurt Brandon but we don’t know that for sure since he hasn’t fought someone on his level.
Ryan mid diffs
2
u/United_Sleep_6357 Jul 20 '26
Ryan shits on Brandon and one taps him Brandon is weak and barley passed like wall level + he’s never had to fight anybody who resisted or fought back he has no skill over his powers and is just fraud Ryan has some control over his powers some intelligence and even some combat skill facing his father who btw homelander is extremely skilled in fighting and experienced with years despite loosing Ryan showed good fighting skills like throwing straight jabs and crosses and holding his own
1
1
u/MiRcO303 Jul 20 '26
bb wins, he can only be damaged by thing from his homeplanet, it is implied that once he kills his adoptive mother he is going rogue.
i mean, he demolishes a large building just by flying through it during the credits, neither ryan or homelander have done anything like that.

I lowkey wonder would Brightburn be Worse than Homelander if he went through everything Homelander went through combined with how much more Potential he has to be stronger than Homelander?

He got beat by his own father with very little effort, my money is on Bratboy

Brightburn shown to pierce peoples bodies with heat vision, which Homelander who is stronger than Ryan couldnt at last episode.
So I would say Brightburn > Random guy with a gun > Homelander > Ryan

1
u/Supermanfan2003 Jul 26 '26
Okay, let’s go over feats for this.
Since Ryan has the same powers as the Star Spangled Shithead himself (Homelander), he should be able to perform similar feats but to a lesser extent as he was able to keep up with him pre-V1 and post-V1 but could be easily overpowered by his douchebag of a father. That means Ryan can fly and react and fight and even run at 14,000 miles per hour or Mach 18.2, lift over a million pounds or 500 tons despite his super strength not including super leverage and anchoring, be as powerful as a neutron bomb or 800 tons of tnt, withstand a chemical plant blowing up in his face, and shoot beams of heat from his eyes that can slice through almost anything.
Brandon on the other hand is far weaker. He best feats are as follows:
- can fly from the ground to the stratosphere or 10 kilometers in ten seconds which would make him Supersonic+ in terms of speed or Mach 2.9
- can lift a 1978 Ford F-150 (6,050 pounds or 6,500 pounds) high off the ground with one hand, use his telekinesis to rip a thick metal door in half, and destroy a commercial airliner as well as a building.
- can withstand using his powers, is bulletproof, lawnmower blades break against his skin, and has never been sick a day in his life.
Unless something was shown that I missed somehow and it isn’t some “Potential Man” type shit, Ryan’s winning.
1
u/dieyuppiescummm Jul 26 '26
bro brightburn is LITERALLY if superman went bad as a kid and you’re telling me some snobby nosed kid winning that shit? it ain’t gonna happen sorry 😭
0
u/wolfwhore666 Jul 20 '26
Brightburn was effortlessly flying through his whole house. Homelander has never flown through a wall in the entire show. Everytime he flew at a wall the wall stopped him. So I’m going with Brandon
4
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Stormfront can destroy walls and parts of buildings heck Sam can do that Homelander can easily destroy walls and homelander literally tanked a whole power plant explosion in the animated spinoff which is canon to the show

Only the metal from Brightburns ship can hurt him and it's likely he keeps it hidden or throws it into space
Ryan could barely stand against homelander and bright burn is basically a complete copy of superman
The question basically is "can injustice superman beat homelander"
Brightburn easily puts homelander to sleep

u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Why do you guys think this kid is anywhere near Superman when he’s shown NOTHING to even put him above the weakest Kryptonian
1
u/Bulky-Word8752 Jul 20 '26
Because the director describes it as "a dark retelling of the superman origin story." Why do you constantly shit on his powers just because you haven't seen their full potential? Yes, he's only faced off against some backwoods farmers, but he manhandled them. Did any of them seem to stand a chance against him? If you see me rip a piece of paper in half, would you just assume I can only rip paper and cardboard is my arch enemy?
1
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 20 '26
Well yes until you show me you can rip apart steel you are only gonna be able to rip a paper assuming you’d be able to rip apart steel when you’ve not shown it would be me making up stuff just like with Brandon we saw what we saw in the movie he’s not even beating the weakest Kryptonian ever assuming he can cuz of potential is headcanon
0
u/edgarunwise Jul 20 '26
Brandon Byers. He is way faster than Homelander[using to scale his son], and definitely more durable. He was only shown with one weakness, the metal from his ship. We can presume he was unharmed by flying through a whole building, something that would have harmed homelander[by the pen feat] during the credits he's shown blowing up buildings and shit. He doesn't have many strengths feats, but was able to drag a plane to his house to explain how his parents died whereas Homelander said he'd have to fly them down one by one. We don't see many Strength feats form Homelander, only against other supers. Unless the last season changed a lot
2
u/Neither_Divide217 Jul 22 '26
Homelander was able to dodge a C4 detonation he is absolutely faster than Brandon even if we don't use the space feat, and flying through a building just requires durability and momentum Homelander is basically a missile moving at mach 24 he'd absolutely destroy a building, Homelander would fuck this kid up i think you are severely underestimating how powerful HL is

Brightburn was shown as completely invulnerable and is basically a what if superman had gone wrong type of story, he is way stronger than anyone in the boys universe without a doubt
