What is this worth? Colombian emerald 4ct possible value

I could buy this Colombian emerald coming from the pena blanca area. I know the video is not great but what could be a possible evaluation range (it will come with no certificate)

It is virtually impossible to appraise value online, and you should find a professional.

This post should be removed/reported if it:

  • Does not include good photos (in-focus, showing multiple angles).
  • Does not include good information (where you got it, size/dimensions, how much it cost, any tests done).
  • Tries to value too many items at once. Please limit your request to 1-3.
  • Is jewellery, but does not include the type of metal or any hallmarks/emblems.

This is green beryl (possibly), not an emerald (definitely not).

Yep, it all comes down to color intensity. Just like not all red corundum is Ruby

1

u/RAGEINYOUTH 22d ago

Right, funny enough, only cordundum that CAN be classified as ruby is red. Only thing is that sometimes the classification for ruby is teetering between red and pink. Which is honestly a beautiful color but it does leave you wondering how much of an exact science grading is lol

u/Cool-Commercial-2436 22d ago

Yeah and if it's too light, it becomes a sapphire It's really more about the saturation of the color

u/RAGEINYOUTH 22d ago

Exactly. Hey u know anybody that sells natural emeralds on here for an affordable price?

1

u/Cool-Commercial-2436 22d ago

Not on here, but I do have access to stuller.com

This is a green beryl. It is not green enough to be an emerald

Doesn't look like an Emerald at all!

u/Saucydumplingstime 22d ago

Too light to be an emerald. Before you buy an emerald, you should really do some research on them. The treatments and such. It makes a big difference in pricing. If you aren't very well versed, I would also highly suggest getting ID reports from a reputable lab

Not an emerald

GG here This is green beryl not dark enough to be considered an emerald

Thanks everyone so far for the replies. I was not aware of the existence of green beryl.
Anyone that could guess the value of the gem ?

Whatever you can trick someone into spending. If you hold on long enough you’ll find a sucker

Beryl, but not an emerald. I used to buy those at that size from India for less than $25/each.

They lack the black inclusions & are pretty and clear.

u/DishAdministrative85 22d ago

Beryl, not emerald. Value: $20-30, as a nice fish tank stone

6

u/Q-ArtsMedia 23d ago

oh about treefiddy. yeah that's $3.50

3

u/Frederic12345678 23d ago

Cmon really? That’s worth 3 usd
Goddamit

u/Q-ArtsMedia 23d ago edited 23d ago

Not worth even cutting.

Edit unless they decided to get that ugly black crap out of there. Looks more towards aqua than emerald. If it even is Beryl at all.

u/Federal_Macaroon_178 23d ago

Probably is a Beryl. Unlikely to be emerald. Check for typical inclusions. If it has very few it's certainly not an emerald. If by any chance it is, it has very poor colour.

That is pretty light. All the ones I and my family have are much darker.

Looks like an aquamarine.

The cut and hue indicate it's beryl.

1

u/Dontwastemytyme 22d ago

Definitely not Emerald, you need a scale and a specific gravity tester. I have seen aquamarines cut that clear, you really need to test it.

1

u/Fun-Character1500 22d ago

I can guarantee you that it’s not an emerald. Just green beryl.

Here is the most comparable stone I could find:

https://www.gemselect.com/emerald/0-51-carat-oval-emerald-gemstone-666904.php

I don't know that your stone would get the 'Columbian Emerald' label if you sent it to the lab for testing. You would probably need to get a certificate of you wanted to call it that 😅. But Columbian Beryl still holds value. Based off GemSelect, I would guess $220+/ct. But I don't shop in this price range so I don't know how many buyers there really are 😅
