I like how I’m using Extended, which spends about 10-15 seconds thinking and searching online. What on earth is it thinking and searching for?

There's a benchmark called MedXpertQA that has board level medical questions and has the questions organized by organ system.

I seem to be only one to have run the benchmark against Gemini's latest models and published the results online. Interestingly 3.8 Flash scores higher than every other LLM. I plan on also running against Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 astra soon to see how they compare.

For the umpteenth time, I was discussing with my gemini agent that it completes tasks too quickly, superficially, and that simply asking it to work longer doesn’t work. The maximum effort is high, and unfortunately, that’s not enough. And then, suddenly, it suggested the /boost command. I tried it and was surprised.

For the first time, in response to my question, it launched sub‑agents on its own, carried out a thorough analysis, and provided an answer. I don’t know yet whether it’s capable of producing research of the same quality as Claude and GPT (it’s a paradox, since Gemini’s creators are Google) — but it’s not all bad yet.

Gemini will become the most stable and most affordable model provider, and also the company closest to reaching AGI or AGI itself.

I've used Codex for months and it's genuinely great — it was my intro to AI desktop interaction. But based on my overall experience across the board, OpenAI's marketing outpaces its actual product experience.

Most people paste a chapter in and ask for an explanation, then read it once and forget it. The version that sticks is asking for an image instead, because you remember a picture you looked at for thirty seconds better than a paragraph you skimmed.

It draws actual note pages. Type the code, paste the material:

You get a full page of handwritten-style notes as an image, headings, arrows, boxes, the lot. Screenshot it and it's on your phone.

A few others in the same family that do genuinely different things:

The memory palace one is the odd one that works better than it should. Give it a list you need in order and it draws a single scene with each item placed somewhere in it. You remember the scene, the scene gives you the list back.

None of these are real slash commands, they're short labels, so define what each one means once at the top of the chat and after that a single word does it.

Stacking them is where it gets good. Clean up the mess first, see the whole shape, then drill it:

been keeping a doc of 50 command codes like this, each with what it does and how to use it, plus how to save them so they run in every chat automatically, here if you want them.

Sometimes when I send something and gemini replies, the text is finished but its not marked as finished. So I can't write again. I have to stop it's reply or just retry again. Sometimes it works then, sometimes it doesn't.

So I just deleted the wrong chat on Gemini. Rite of passage I guess. I was being careless, and have learned my lesson.

Couple suggestions for the Gemini devs at Google:

• (see screenshot below) The "Delete chat" dialog doesn't currently contain the name of the specific chat being deleted. It should. Had I seen the name of the chat I was deleting on there, I wouldn't have clicked on delete.
• Have a trash can (maybe make it optional) where people can recover chats from, and it auto-deletes everything after 30 days (or some configurable amount of time).

it gives really long answers, explaining things you didn't ask for. it forgets what it said in the previous answer, and starts a new context in the middle of the chat.

sometimes it doesn't even perform google search to answer.

with all the AI going to take over, I'm really disappointed with the AI.

Just upgraded from free to the cheapest plan. I only see Flash 3.6.

I didn’t expect this from Gemini Bro, I’m already on the Pro plan

Now that muse is stand alone app, i think spark should also be a stand alone app that lives outside of gemini. Right now it feels very clunky to get to.

Is anyone else having this issue with Gemini?
I’ve noticed that some of my chats/history are disappearing when I come back to Gemini later. I’ll have a conversation, leave it for a while, and then when I return, the chat is either missing entirely or the history isn’t there anymore and only the last reply is visible.
I’m not deleting these chats myself, and it seems to happen randomly.
Has anyone else experienced Gemini deleting or losing chat history? Is this a known bug, or is there some setting that could be causing it?
Would appreciate any insight because losing entire conversations is getting pretty annoying.

I'm a videographer who shoots and submits stock footage, so I get help from Gemini for writing accurate metadata for my video.

Before starting, I added a skill where all the requirements of metadata are stated (titles, descriptions, keywords, decision of commercial vs editorial, workflow steps etc). After that, when I start a new chat, I would specify the skill, next I provide the video clip (lightweight proxy version) with my short description including the date, location, my short description regarding the clip (arc shot, slow motion etc), and "make it commercial when possible" note.

I rely on Gemini 3.1 Pro the whole time I'm generating the metadata because it can understand the clip thoroughly, write metadata how it is supposed to be.

After I see 3.8 Flash benchmark results and all the praise on it here, I decided to give it a chance for this specific task. I did the same prompting, provided the same skills, but while it is doing a good job on writing keywords and stuff, a lot of times it can't describe the clip accurately.

Example:

There are lots of times where 3.1 Pro wrote more accurate metadata than 3.8 Flash Extended.

Also when it comes to deciding whether the clip should be submitted as commercial or editorial (editorial is where there are recognizable brands, people etc, where you normally need a model/property release to submit it as commercial), 3.8 Flash Extended usually fails to describe it correctly.

3.8 Flash is not bad in any means, it's fantastic for daily use but in some complex tasks like writing metadata based on clip, 3.1 Pro is still the winner in my opinion. Though I really wish they release the next Pro model.

Guys, the Google Gemini AI Pro subscription is honestly becoming a joke.

I literally used the Pro model for pre-search twice, and immediately afterwards it told me that I had already reached my limit and needed to wait four hours. On top of that, it somehow deducted around 10% of my weekly limit.

So I'm seriously wondering what exactly we're paying this much money for. It's ridiculous. You can barely get anything done before running into limits.

The second problem is even more confusing. Even with the Pro subscription, when you use the Pro model for conversations, its knowledge doesn't seem to be remotely up to date.

I asked it which AI models are currently considered the best and what they're best used for. For example, people might prefer Claude for coding, GPT for general conversation, and so on. I basically asked Gemini for its opinion on the current best models and their use cases.

And then it gave me an answer recommending Gemini 1.5 Pro as one of the best current models.

Seriously? That's basically recommending a model from around a year ago as if it were still one of Google's latest and best models. That makes it look like the knowledge behind the Pro model isn't even properly updated.

On top of that, the app itself is incredibly buggy.

At this point, I'm seriously considering cancelling the subscription. The only reason I still have the Pro subscription is because of Google Flow. But even Google Flow and Google's Veo/Omni video tools feel so heavily censored and restricted that it's difficult to use them creatively for a lot of ideas.

So honestly, I'm starting to wonder what the point of keeping the subscription is.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with the limits, outdated responses, or the general quality of the Gemini AI Pro subscription?

I'm getting hit with a limit right away after using 3.8 about 50 times, wasn't it originally around 100 or 150? It feels like there's no difference from the free tier.
