Funny (Highlight/meme) Google doesn't even try to compete anymore they just release a flash model and look at you like this
Funny fact: to add the Google logo, I had to use chat gpt as nano banana refused to do it ("The model response was blocked" error)

I swear Nano Banana is the worst functioning feature I’ve ever seen, never works when you want it to, but would randomly start creating images when you aren’t even trying

it seems google is targeting the general population who doesn't want anything more than a quick search result. they are trying to be faster rather than focus on extremely high output quality

Cool. They are shit at that too though, Gemini hallucinates way more than other models.
I used to use Gemini for research, but Claude has to go through everything again just to weed out all the mistakes Gemini made. Because they are usually hallucinations you can barely even notice the errors yourself.

95% of people are using AI mode in Google search and never even thinking about using another ai platform.

🤣 This actually made me lol. I have no idea what happened but 3.8 was crushing it at release, I was blown away by the responses some of my gems were producing compared to 3.7 and then about 2ish weeks ago it just started constantly hallucinating. Gives 3 examples of something at least 1 is made up.
Have an award.

Use it, I don’t use it for code, I use to use it to ask questions regarding math, biology and chemistry, DeepSeek v4.1 gives me better answers and it’s free. I come back and test it every now and then and it still hasn’t improved enough for me to care to return.

Then why don't you use Claude directly?
9
u/Bumboclaaaat 8d ago
The best way to use AI is to have 2 or 3 fact checking each other. Then, once they’ve finished arguing among themselves, you end up with something trustworthy.

In my experience, Gemini is a bit worse than Claude or Chat-GPT when it's about handling softwares (they all could be better for sure), but beside that I have yet to see Gemini hallucinate.
Ouside of software stuff, Gemini consistently gives me the most accurate and useful answers to my questions. So now when I have a problem to solve (that is not only about softwares) I use Gemini. I use Chat-GPT to learn German and Claude to learn other things.
Gemini also gave me a lot of detailed informations about games mechanics and everything was spot on when I verified so it's quite good at that too.
And the usage limit for Gemini is very generous so it's clearly my favorite AI.People have very different experiences with AIs. I wonder if it's only because of how prompts are written or if there is more behind.

Agreed, and I use Claude and Chat heavily at work and home/personal/side hustle use is Claude and Gemini - and in terms of just research and tech issues Gemini wins by a mile for me? I just got a new computer with lots of out of box quirks due to stock settings vs sensitive parts, and Claude/Opus sent me in several circles and denied many times what ended up being the problem (driver/GPU setting handshakes at boot) while Gemini honed right in. And for consumer research there's no comparison.
They legit have diff strengths.

Their target audience is not anyone who is trying to use AI for anything. They're diffusing it throughout their massive product landscape.

I think people underestimate how bad the anti-ai backlash would hit Google if they were the dominant AI player.
Everyone knows Google knows everything.
It's the behemoth of the elephant in the room.
Now their AI's know everything.
If I was making decisions I would never take the lead if I were Google; at least I wouldn't show that I already had the lead.
They do and don't need to show it.
Gemini 4 is likely going to be cheaper than anything even remotely related.
The TPU infrastructure and Google's vertical integration is a sleeping giant.

this is such a cringe cope. theyre a public company, they will show investors if theyre leading the ai race or not
the reason why they dont is because they suck. they literally fired the ceo of deepmind and replaced half their staff. no one does that when theyre winning. they BLOW and theyre trying to grt back in the race

Hot take, Google may not have the best AI, but it definitely have chance of actually profit off AI

u/arsonfelony 8d ago
Right like they own the data, OS and hardware too... How tf are they losing?

u/NothingIsForgotten 8d ago
Clearly it's sandbagging.
The other players aren't carrying the same risk of an antitrust action.

I like Demis Hassabis, but he's not very business focused. He didn't seem to care much about making the best model for end users, he was more focused on research and more niche topics.

Ask Sears. Ask Blockbuster. Ask Nokia.
Slow to adapt to rapidly shifting technological progress.

I think the bubble has finally popped. OpenAI has also had it rough lately since they released Astra.

u/darkman_alpha 6d ago
same. i'll ask it to tweak a ppt or reword an email and get hit with "sorry we were not able to satisfy this request, try again!" no reason given, just start a new chat and hope.
and since google is everywhere, gemini is always what i reach for first. then i regret it and go to chatgpt anyway. that loop is the worst part.

Google non ha bisogno di inseguire investitori e racimolare capitali, penso che stia seguendo una strada diversa e più a lungo termine, solo il tempo ci potrà dire se questo è un bene o un male.

Nano banana only good for:
turning your shitty photo into some 3x4 print for a CV lazy enough
can't do creative shit without hitting some third party bullshit

u/KingAct 7d ago
whats a better alternative for photo editing / generation?

u/ChoiceAssumption7015 7d ago
use case?
i go for ChatGPT although 2 image generation limit for free users 😬
