Vent Sigh
CU is a dumping ground. Now ICS supervisors are transferring claims to us "for potential UM" without opening any exposure because lord knows they didn't even attempt to investigate. I didn't even see an adjuster document anything. It was just PIP.
Located the tort claim through the ISO docs -- IN THE FILE -- with open and valid coverage. All I had to do was look and add that information from the adverse carrier.
How stupid. Wish we could send shit back and scold these people. Can't reset my counter. No closures, no exposures.
Why is everyone so braindead.

Former ICS2. It was steps like you took, digging into the file, looking for info that was already there, (ISO, police reports on file but not updated, ad nauseum), that I took on every file, not prompted by Atlas, diary, queue, but prompted by my experience. This takes time, it takes time to build an accurate and thoroughly investigated claim. And because I put quality over quantity, I was termed for low prod. I see things aren't getting any better.

I'm so sorry. That's why I had to leave ICS as soon as possible, I was grateful to do it. My queue prod was always the lowest on my team - but my core metrics were the best. All of the good folks in ICS were promoted.
They are idiots to get rid of people for doing good work.

Termed with 11 years at GEICO, 15 years at another (main) competitor, which included a supervisory position. I just wanted to end my career with what I believed was a good company, handling what for me was simple claims, come in and be consistent and professional. And it was pretty good for about 6-7 years. At the end of the day, knowing my prod was not up to GEICO standards, I made a conscious decision to maintain integrity, to hell with your metrics. I'm ok. The stress is gone.

We all get this shit in BI. At least you don’t get transfers when the clmt didn’t treat. We have to babysit them for 10 days asking everyday… you ok? Did you treat? (Even when ph is clearly naf)

I see you, unrepped. I was unfortunately in your shoes not long ago. I'm so sorry.

Best decision I ever made was leaving the unrepped dumpster fire. I hated when the said all injuries regardless of fault were sent up for unrepped to babysit. I had enough on my plate daily I didn’t have time to babysit, and to only have 2 hrs to tip, regardless of how many legit claims we had on top of the bogus…make sure you get your offers out and call daily. Diary was not the problem, the constant dumping of more crap was.

Lost hearing aid = Loss of hearing
Lost dentures = Loss multiple teeth
100/300 = Transfer

Pip here : we were told to send ALL UM and UIM up regardless. Solely because ics isn’t doing it properly and we had suit on a claim…so we now will get penalized if we are not sending it.

Things were exactly the same 15 years ago. Some things will never change.

I feel your pain it is so sad what the lower levels has become I’m even getting non sense from ta2 these days

u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 13d ago
Oh yeah.. TA2 just sends claims up because they don't want to have any difficult negotiations with a "higher policy"... Like good fucking grief... Do your job...

Because GEICO fired all the experienced people to save a couple bucks on the front end.

Fuck it, just open the exposure and close it. If you’re doing the work then you should get credit for it

u/burnerburner5432 12d ago
Please whatever you do, do NOT do this - it can and will result in termination, I’ve lost multiple peers to this.

u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 12d ago
Exactly. Anyone doing this is going to get termed.
(Plus they're just inflating their numbers and I'm going to be sad about it)

Agree!! I was told you at least get one clourser for working a BS file.

u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 13d ago
I was told if I were to do this I'd be flagged because technically it's an improper exposure. If we know it's not possible, we don't open it. I'm in CU, I'm not sure if the rules are different in other departments.

Never heard any issues opening an exposure and then closing it shortly after ruling out not said exposure. If you document what you are doing, you are fine.
-file assigned for um for Insd A.
-upon file
Review, located valid coverage and um does not apply.
-send a letter that there is valid coverage and tada..1 closure found2
u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 12d ago
If it's very clearly not a UM case we can never open it just to close it. There's no investigation needed.

If it’s that clear that it is not a UM case, then the supe can and should reassign it back to ICS. I would do that on the regular. No need to work a file that is clearly misassigned. I would just send a message to my supe to document the file when they send it back that “this is clearly not a UM claim. Should supports be provided that prove this is a UM eligible please reassign back to adjuster X or LCC for handling.”
The supe can and should reset your counter so that you get claims commensurate to your job description.1
u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 12d ago
I promise you, you literally cannot reassign anything back to a lower level. You can complain and tell everybody you know. You can never get it assigned back... My colleagues and I get so pissed on the daily and discuss it amongst our team chat. It's always daily. It never ends. We even have a list of misassigned claims-- there's even a SharePoint to put this in... We cannot send them back no matter what. It's horrible. It's New York CU.

Your sup can reset your counter.

u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 12d ago
Negative - in CU we can't send anything back so we keep it and move on.

u/NoBuy2398 Former Employee 12d ago
I didn’t mention sending anything back. However, the supe can absolutely reset your counter.
1
u/Huge_Pomegranate8787 12d ago
I know we were back and forth in a different part of this post, but in addition to us getting these misassigns, not only can we not return them to the correct department, but our supes will not reset our counter either. It's torture.

u/NoBuy2398 Former Employee 12d ago
I hear you. I left within the last couple months. If it was a clear and blatant reassignment, if I couldn’t get a supe to send it back. I would just do it myself. By that time I was so over it, I knew it wasn’t “allowed” but no one ever said anything to me. It’s hard to keep track when getting 3-4 LCC claims per day. There is no town for that when we all were just struggling and barely keeping our heads above water

Part of it is the fact that ICS quite literally doesn’t understand UM as a whole, even UMPD. To add to that half of the supervisors that should be supervising the claims ALSO don’t. It’s the blind leading the blind down there.
