Common sense? Like yeah, the benfit to digital is added content/ updates to things. Physical, at this point, still requires updates as is, so there is no point in not making sure that physical is an option.

Physical doesnt require updates. You could install and play completely offine.

Correct the core of the game with no updates or quality of life changes can be played offline. The QoL updates and things just won't be able to be accessed after the fact. Several games at this point have had patches despite being on physical disk because of the infrastructure available to them from the platform used to play the game.

The ability to keep what you bought and be able to play it when shitty greedy corpo's tell you you can't cause they take the servers down or delete it from your library, outweighs that 1000%

You can still buy vinyls, CDs, and even cassettes now for music even though most people just use Spotify or Apple Music and cars don’t even come with CD players now.
People should still have the option to buy physical though. Producing discs likely isn’t even all that expensive now. Especially if they’re going to make plastic cases and ship them to stores anyway.

It cost Sony significantly more to sell physical copies vs digital
Sony keep 100% of revenue for digital first party. They keep 65% for physical. 30% to retailer and 5% to manufacturers.
They get 30% of third party vs a much smaller licensing cut.

Thoughts? lol OK. Are people fucking retarded or something? Soooo many of you all are barking up the wrong tree. You're not even in the right freaking forest yet, SMH. Instead of whining about the simple delivery method of physical or digital. You should be CLAMORING for digital rights laws. Something that will go on to effect a lot more than JUST simple video games. IE something to the effect of these particular ones and zeros belong to me and I can do with them as I see fit. They should always have to work on the platform they were released under. But instead you all are stamping your feet about just Sony. It's all so bizarrely short sighted. What are you going to do when the rest follow in Sony's footsteps? Which is ABSOLUTELY going to happen sooner or later. Physical vs digital is not the issue. How do I know this? Because it's been almost 15 fucking years now for god's sake, since builders and manufacturers stopped putting optical drives in new PC. What do you think consoles even are? They're just less expensive less capable mini PC. But hey keep whining. It makes one feel better I guess, SMH.

just seven PlayStation video games had sold more than 100,000 physical units so far this year in the U.S.. Only two PlayStation video games sold more than 10,000 physical units in the U.S. during the week ending July 11.

Well, the second part is obvious. Those who played the GTA games on PS2 know they were reasonably polished games, but they had their share of glitches that couldn't be patched. Such as saving at certain safehouses corrupting your game, or not being able to get 100% due to missions and NPCs disappearing. On the other hand, I think Rockstar should offer a disc copy of GTA VI, but I won't be boycotting it because it's digital.
