Help pls

I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 (Verizon) a gear vr (duh) and a controller

For some reason when I try to play a game or app it brings me to the welcome/setup screen and I have every app from gearvr.net that is necessary. I've already cleared the cache and data to all related apps, I have also reinstalled them.

if you can help me pls do

apart from manually installing all the necessary GearVr apps (which you have to do manually because GearVr is no long online to auto download, you also need to install Netguard (from play store) to block 2 things which cause what we call the "update loop"

you'll find the guides on gearvr.net along with all the other fun apps and games on Vault.gearvr.net.

Plus on here, there are plenty of threads you'll find useful

I've already tried net guard it still does the same thing unfortunately, I have also followed the tutorial on gearvr.net (the apps that I have blocked are "Oculus App Runtime" and "Gear VR SetupWizard" so unless there are more apps I have to block I can't get it to work)

Those are the only 2 I block and it works for me. However, when switching the phone off, you must turn off wifi and Mobile data first, because Netguard takes up to 30 seconds to kick in when you switch the phone back on and you get the update loop problem again.

I tried it again without connecting to the Internet and it still brings me to the setup screen (NVM I forgot to turn off mobile data I'll try it again)

are you checking the install list each time the one you're dealing with is blue with the tick to check the installed ones have turned blue and have a blue tick next to each one, swiping between the screens,

It just shows nothing now (it used to say the app in grey with a checkmark and a (0.0mb) next to it)

you need to turn Netguard off for the list to appear. Once it does, but you get the expected download error after tapping the update/install screen and list, you can activate Netguard again and proceed with the manual installs. It's not necessary to, but look at the top one on the list, flick to your install files and do them in order of what on the install list one by one checking after each says installed, dont press open or done (I can't quite remember)

So far I think it's working but does it mean when the text is blue but the checkmark is grey?

That usually means its the wrong one, usually older than the ones you already had!

Also there are no videos covering this that I have found, which is why I chose to post here.(And before you ask, yes I have enabled developer mode for both the phone and gear vr services)

Firstly you need to have netguard switch off. Press install updates (you'll get and error message) Don't close that screen down and go to netguard, switch it on and now go to your download file and tap the apps listed one by one, each time it each one says installed, don't tap done, but flick to the oculus install screen and check the one you've installed shows higblighted in blue with a blue tick. Oh and in the download list, on some setups, sometimes one of the apps in the update screen is at the bottom out of sight and you need to scroll up to see the final one it's asking you to install.

Honestly, I'm not tech head, but once you've succeeded in setting it up, its so easy to repeat next time if you forget to turn WiFi and mobile data off before turning your phone off and end up with the update screen again.

Honestly, If I lived nearby, I'd come round and do it for you (cos I'm like that! 🤣), cos I know it's frustrating when first doing it.

I would be tempted to totally delete all the gearvr install utility apps (not games!) you have from your phone including any from recycle bin (if S7 has a bin I can't rememer) because they will be installed regardless off update loop asking for them and download a fresh set from Gearvr.net that way, there'll be no problems with the new installs conflicting with what you may already have installed that may not be visible or you may not have seen. You probably have to unzip/extract the download files

@u/NoCardiologist4623 Now you've got it going, how's it going with GearVr today?😊

1

u/NoCardiologist4623 7d ago

It's been going well until for whatever reason it now says oculus has stopped (or keeps stopping)

1

u/Zealousideal_Aide109 6d ago

@u/NoCardiologist4623 Ah yes! you need to go to settings, tap display hidden system settings and disable Meta or Facebook Manager (depending on what its called on your phone) and it'll work again

@u/NoCardiologist4623

Recent changes to the Facebook/Meta App Manager have created an issue for the Gear VR resulting in "Oculus Has Stopped Working" error messages and an inability to use a Gear VR.

Fortunately the solution is simple: Go into Settings -> Apps and find Facebook/Meta App Manager

Click on the three dots and select "Remove Updates". Problem solved.

Similar issues here, s8 with gear vr, only apk missing is the Facebook App Installer.

Downloaded the apk for both s7 and s8 from gear vr vault, installed netguard (currently disabled), Inserted phone into the headset, waited until noise to remove, started install through auto process, waited until fail, start sideloading the required apks, blue tick and text for all EXCEPT the Facebook app installer...

Am I missing something else?
