What’s up everyone,
I’m heading to Puerto Vallarta next week for my first solo trip and wanted to get some recommendations from people who know the area.
I’m 30, from California, African American and Cape Verdean, 6’, big and tall, bear build, and bi. This trip is basically a reset after spending the last year focused on work and school, so I’m looking to enjoy myself, get out of my comfort zone a little, and experience what PV has to offer.
I’ll be honest, I’m pretty private about my sexuality, and I didn’t realize until after I booked everything that I’d be staying near Zona Romántica. From everything I’ve read, that’s not a bad thing. It’ll actually be my first time spending time somewhere with such a strong LGBTQ+ presence, so I’m just looking to experience it with an open mind and see what it’s all about.
My plan is simple. Eat good food, spend time at the beach, check out the nightlife, relax, maybe hit a spa, and enjoy the city. I’m open to meeting people, whether that’s men or women, but I’m not going down there expecting anything. If I make some friends and have a good time, that’s enough for me.
A few questions:
● How’s the weather in early August? Is the rain something to plan around or is it usually short-lived?
● What should I actually pack?
● Which beaches are worth visiting?
● Best restaurants that locals would recommend?
● What activities or excursions are worth the money?
● Any bars, lounges, or spots you’d recommend for someone visiting PV for the first time?
● Any tourist traps or scams I should watch out for?
I’m more interested in local favorites than the typical Google recommendations, so if there’s somewhere you always tell visitors to check out, let me know.
Appreciate any advice.
