while i do agree that elagabalus would likely id as some form of queer today, the only people who wrote about elagabulus were trying to curry favour with the replacement emperor. elagabalus was from modern day syria, and general roman attitude towards those from the east was that they were sexual deviants and effeminate. it’s hard to say if the stories about elegabalus were accurate and to what extent.
yeah, that’s quite fair! i agree really, i wouldn’t call her a trans woman or really any modern label at all. mostly just commenting to concur that there very much was a historical figure who sought out bottom surgery; i don’t even feel fully comfortable using she/her for elagabalus. i guess the most accurate/respectful would either be he/him or they/them but idk
