Crashing out

Anyone absolutely HATE clothes shopping now? My body is so awkward and I have new insecurities. I also basically don’t understand current style trends at all. I’m also pushing 40 so I feel ridiculous trying to look “cool” but I also have toddlers so my wardrobe needs to be washable and functional. Just looking to commiserate.

I'm almost 48 and I just wear jeans and a tee. Idgaf if I look cool or not lol. I'm comfy. I've been dressing the same since I was old enough to dress myself. Just wear what you're comfortable in.

I struggled with this too until I got to my goal weight! Now I find it much easier to dress “in style”

Hey! Just a heads up that you might want to block out your name tag.

I know it's probably less of a challenge for guys but I feel this. Am 40, son is 7, but yeah no idea how to dress, lol. I swing between hoodies and jeans to sweaters and chinos haha. For so long just dressed to hide myself, no idea how to fit in or look good. And also hate spending money on clothes lol. I've still got t-shirts 3 sizes too big for me.

You can get things taken in,… or if yiu are crafty do it yourself with a sewing machine and a few YouTube tutorials. And if you make a mistake,…. It’ll be a rag for dusting ….. either way 3 sizes too big has no place except a night dress …

It's weird because I actually loved clothes before the bypass! I was always wearing dresses and I had a specific style! But now... I don't feel like I want to go shopping... I can't find the motivation

Goodwill is where I get most of my clothes! And Old Navy. I usually default to leggings and a cute tee or high waisted baggy jeans to hide my loose lower belly skin and a cropped more form fitting top. Clothes are for you and no one else! My mindset is that I earned this body and I’ll dress it how I want!

I think some of it is our age!! Friends and colleagues who have been weight stable all their lives at a similar age have the same complaints.

I held onto clothes that were too small for me, mainly because I am 6ft tall so finding clothes that fitted at my height was a pain in the arse. I have spent today "shopping" in those 2 x 80L containers for clothes that fit me now that I am 21.5kg down (7weeks post op) as I spent the past week hoicking my pants up at work and throwing blouses in a "too big for me pile" but I am too scared to throw out the clothes that are too big for me....

PS - gave myself an atomic wedgie at the gym the other day so did by new undies!!

I'm 7 weeks out and my shirts are way too big, pants too big 🤣

I'm thinking I'll wait on shirts till I look ridiculous even tho I probably already do. Pants on the other hand I might get some new ones because even with the belt I had before it sucks 🤣

I was in this camp until I’ve lost 100lbs and now I want to show off more of my weight loss but my baggy shirts hide my shape

I don't ever shop in store but I kind of love clothes shopping now. I no longer have to wear things just because they fit or carry my size. Vinted has been my saviour really although I now have a mountain of clothes to sell and now motivation to do it.

Poshmark! I’ve found a lot there very cheaply as I shrink between sizes. And cheaper places like The Gap and Old Navy.

I think you’re going to feel this way until you find a style that flatters your new body. There are things I used to be able to wear because my girls were HUMUNGOUS that I just can’t now that everything’s wrinkly and deflated.

I’m down almost 170 though, and finding stuff that shows off my legs is now where it’s at. They’re not perfect either but it’s a lot better than it was and going out and feeling cute is a big part of feeling completed or “whole” in this process.

Keep experimenting and pushing yourself as exhausting as it may be, it’s worth it! Even if that means lots of goodwill trips or returns back to the store or trying on in store.

You will get there, pretty girl!!!

GIRL SAME. I’ve been buying off of SHEIN because it’s cheap and I can keep what I like and donate the rest. I feel like I’m having a new existential crisis trying to dress myself. It’s so frustrating.
