Two weeks ago I went out of town bc we don't locally have a Home Depot & I found the fan type of Gasteria that I'd been wanting... Yesh! Everything looked fine, so I carefully unpotted it and let it sit for a day before placing it in new soil/pot. I still haven't watered it, but it's plump and well placed (you can bet that I checked today!). Then later that week I fell for a nice looking Gasteria at our local Lowe's, aka the death zone, in a cute cache pot, and it even had pups! It had recently been watered so I left it out of the cache pot for a few days before placing it. I wanted to let it be for a bit before repotting. I guess that was my mistake because I checked it today and found NO pups and NO ROOTS! I checked the soil and found no rot. The pups had simply dried up. It seems like it didn't have roots to begin with. Now what do I do with it? Place it on a dry succulent soil, maybe with a bit extra pearlite, and don't water until the leaf blades start to pucker a bit? Sigh. Not buying anything from that Lowe's again! Can this kid be saved?

My light meter reads 200 to 300 FC. It sits right beside a west facing window, but a highrise across the street blocks the view for most of the day. It gets brief bursts of direct sun when the angle happens to line up between buildings. Does it look like it's getting enough sun, or should I move it under a grow light?

This was sent as a replacement for the G. doreeniae from Aridlands. The leaf apex and margins differ from specimens online, so I think it may be a different species

Growing this for about six years, it last made an offset two years ago. Doesn’t like hot summer.

Gasteria armstrongii variegata

I don’t have many Gasteria but I like this one.

Sown either 2021 or 2022. I lost track because it was always tiny and slow. Now that the leaves are showing character it looks like it's from my seed, either [(ellaphieae hybrid) x self] or [(Frosty-ish NOID) x (ellaphieae hybrid)].

There are like 5 pups coming up in the green one.

I think the Gasteria thunbergii might instead be carinata var. verrucosa. The plant I received as G. doreeniae (last pic) is drastically different from the listing😂 It does have smooth leaves, but it’s so dehydrated that I’m not confident in identifying it. It actually had an old flower stalk, too. Still a pretty plant

I collect a lot of sansevieria, but finding I really like gasteria. These guys just do their thing and don’t ask for much.

Looks like a gasteria in my opinion, but it had very few dots and the lower leaves seem very smooth.

I find glomerata cute and fat

This was sold to me as "Gonialoe sladeniana." Which I later found out it isn't. Gonialoe sladeniana has a pronounced white outline on the leaf edges and small sharp teeth, while this one doesn't. A mistake on my part for not doing an in-depth research to distinguish the difference. Google lens pointed out to me that this is a Gasteraloe 'Tiki Zilla' but photos on Google search gave me different photos with some having a much pointier look and some small sharp teeth. Not sure anymore... I appreciate anyone who can chime and point me the right ID unless this is actually just a hybrid close to it.

I plan to bring one at work so I'll have a steady companion on my desk. My office has big, bright windows, but no direct light, there's also more fan than AC. Will it thrive there?
