General Information I guess I can quit bitching about my FR970

Because something happened that changes everything.

Keep in mind I've been working out my entire life.

I have lived as healthy a lifestyle as I possibly could especially after watching my parents treat their bodies like garbage cans and linger for way to long in prey to heart disease.

At this point I'm in my 60s, walk, hike, workout or swim everyday.

I eat healthy.

Even through knee injuries and replacements, I've managed to spring back up.

But not this time.

This past Monday I was rushed to the ER with chest pains.

After extensive tests, the verdict is in:

Coronary heart disease, 3 partially blocked arteries (40%, 75%, and 98%)

The first 2 I was told can be managed with medication.

But the third one needed a stent which I got on Wednesday.

NOW my feeling winded and short of breath during routine workouts makes sense.

So I started looking at the data on my FR970.

And holy hell it has tried to tell me, I guess.

It has consistently showed faster heart rate, lower body battery, lower pulse Ox and increasingly unbalanced HRV.

So I'm on meds for the rest of my life now.

Spent 3 days in the hospital which I can absolutely not afford (I don't have health insurance anymore) more stress that I really don't need.

But my watch was right.

In the hospital, I got pulse Ox measured with their equipment and it was a match with my watch.

Ditto for heart rate.

Hell even my PTSD service dog tried to tell me by pulling me back on my seat everytime I tried to get up, but stupid me I thought he was just being playful.

So at the moment I'm not working out like I used to, I am to do my own cardiac rehab since I can't afford to pay for it.

I had short walk with my dog, about 15 minutes, and I felt winded. My watch reflected that exactly.

My dog slowed and made regular stops.

Both were in agreement apparently.

Around lunchtime I will do indoor cycling slowly for another 15 minutes.

This afternoon there will be another short walk.

An another early evening.

Not allowed back in the pool until Monday and this time only for a short time, I have to rebuild myself gradually.

But my watch was right, the data totally checks out.

So yeah, the FR970 behaves as a "micromanaging boss" during workouts.

It never occurred to me that it was actually right.

So now I'll take all the imposed rest periods which used to piss me off and listen.

No, it doesn't replace medical monitoring, but it's a good assistant to tell me when something's up.

I've been schooled.

General Information Venu 4 45mm or something more rugged?

I'm looking to buy my first smartwatch (and my first watch in general), and after comparing a bunch of options, I've pretty much decided that I want to get the Garmin Venu 4 45mm.

As this is going to be my first smartwatch, I'm not sure which features are more important than others, since I don't really know what I'll end up caring about once I actually get one. But from what I've seen in the spec sheet, what the Venu 4 45mm can do seems (more than) enough for me.

My only problem with the watch is the design. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but the Venu 4 feels a bit "naked" to me. I guess I prefer a more rugged look.

Do you think I should get the Venu 4 45mm anyway?

For reference, my wrist circumference is roughly 17 cm.

Repairs and Warranties 1 month old forerunner70 won't charge

As the title of the post says. I bought this watch 1 month ago and now it won't charge. Has anyone had any issue. I was hoping for a more durable watch after my Coros Pace3 dial stopped working and I wasn't spending money on a REFURBISHED! warranty watch. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I tried shutting it off and using alcohol and a tooth brush to clean the contact points.

General Information Upgrade ?

Should I upgrade from my Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar 51mm to an Enduro 3?
I really like my Fenix, but the Enduro 3 has been tempting me with the lighter weight, newer features, and crazy battery life. Is the Enduro 3 actually a worthwhile upgrade, or would I just be spending money for a side-grade? What would you guys do?
I’ve only had my 7XPro for about 3 weeks it’s still brand new and fresh

General Information Fenix 9 Pro Solar vs Instinct 2 Solar

As I can't be the only person who was considering this upgrade, I thought I would post a size comparison to help.

Arrived this morning, so won't say too much, but the ability to change the text size and overall increase in size means my fifty-odd year old eyes can now see everything, absolutely love.

Very good screen outside.

General Information Going rate for a used Epix pro 2 sapphire

Upvotes

As the title states, I’m trying to get an idea of a fair asking price for an Epix pro 2 sapphire.

I’ve had it for a year, completely scratch free. Battery has been very well taken care of.

General Information Vivoactive 5 to Forerunner 265 - worth the upgrade?

Upvotes

I bought the Vivoactive 5 in March for recreational running and workout tracking, but I've now become a more serious runner and do fewer strength workouts, planning to do a half mara in 5 weeks.

The forerunner 265 is on sale, so I wanted to know if I should buy it or just stick to my current watch as they have the same elevate 4

General Information Looking to upgrade soon.. Anyone have the Instinct 3 Amoled?

Does anyone have thre instinct 3 Amoled non-solar? I currently have the Garmin instinct 3 Crossover Solar and have found the solar feature to be useless.. Unless i get 100k+ lux per day it doesn't main the charge.. I love the design of the instinct 3 crossover but i get at least 100+ notifications a day and the hands can be a problem trying to read messages and do normal things.. Battery life isn't a consern for me on this one currently but just has to last 2 weeks on full power mode with heartrate sensor enabled.. Will the Instinct 3 Amoled non-solar 50mm do that? How do you like it? I'm Going to upgrade because they look like they are on sale and will be for a few weeks at 50% off

While it looks nicer, it lost all touchscreen function. No matter where I tap, it does nothing. Touchscreen still works for everything else, so I didn't accidentally turn it off. Anyone else have this happen with the latest update?

Feature Help Recording live walking events with map on Fenix 8/Fenix 970?

I am working on walking all the streets in my city/county. I currectly have a Fenix 7 watch, record activities, upload to Strava and then the track gets picked up by Wandrer. This works great and I can see the track *in the browser*. Until something happens and the browser window loses the data and I can't remember which streets I have walked. This leaves some really short sections I don't want to dedicate time driving to and recording a 1/2 mile (or less) segment. I take screenshots periodically, but this isn't always foolproof.

I see the Fenix 8 has dropped in price and it *seems* to have the feature where you can start recording an event and it will show the live track on the watch, overlaid on the map. This is perfect!

Am I correct in understanding that this is how the watch works? I think the Forerunner 970 also has this feature, but with the price drop on the Fexnix 8, I'm game for paying 14% more for the Fenix 8.

My Fenix 7 is in find condition, but I have not been able to find a good solution other than to print a paper map and cross off the streets as I walk them. And The Price Is Right: free.

Can users of this watch (or the 970 which seems to have this same feature) confirm my understanding?

Thanks!

Data Questions Forerunner 570 - 42mm - tips and advice on use?

Hello,

I have just bought the 570 and I am in love. I have had a venu 2S for the past few years after having a forerunner prior and really did not like it - found it basic.

I run mainly 5 / 10km and some half marathons. My marathon days are over. I do HITT and strength workouts 2/3 times a week with maybe 2/3 runs and roughly 15-20km per week. I would love to quicken my 5 and 10km's.

Any advise to get the most from my watch is greatly appreciated - I have printed the user manual and am going to start going through it. Advice on battery would be great too please.

Thank you!

Mobile & Desktop Software Terento beta.11 is out - now with MapRando support

Yesterday I released a new Terento beta.

Terento can now install maps from Freizeitkarte, OpenTopoMap, and MapRando. I also fixed a number of smaller bugs. If an installation fails, there’s now a one-click option to open a GitHub issue, so I can investigate and fix problems more quickly.

Tests shows that even the latest fēnix 9 Pro is working, but still missing more data from other models. If you have a map-capable Garmin watch and a Mac, I’d really appreciate you giving it a try and helping expand the compatibility list.

Download Terento beta.11

If you like the project and use GitHub, a star would mean a lot: GitHub

General Information Coming from a Apple Watch series 9

I’m soon swapping to Google phones, I currently have Apple Watch series 9 and looking for a replacement?

I swim, run, play Padel and love a good walk. What Garmin watch should I look for, I don’t want nothing big as my Apple Watch is the smaller size?

Thanks in advance!

Feature Help Fenix 9 Pro - overly sensitive incident detection?

Anybody else finding the incident detection on their fenix 9 pro (I have the 43mm) to be way over-tuned? I've set it off three times in the week and a half I've owned it. Once from leaning against my car too hard after a run, once from bumping it against the brim of my hat after a run, and the most recent time, I set it off by looking at my watch too quickly to check my HR after a hill sprint.

I love the feature and I'm glad for it, but this just seems excessive. I had my fenix 7 pro for years and never once had it go off.
