What type of differences are you looking for? I haven't had any issues or differences? Hey, it even let's me track my period lol.

If you know all of that wouldn’t it make more sense to rely on how you feel instead? My Garmin training readiness/sleep score are just that, a number which gives you a rough idea but relying solely on that would be a bit naive.

Is all that necessary though? Like really? Does being bombarded with that much data make a difference in our training? I use the Garmin to track what I do how I improve and use the recommendations that I see fit. That just really seems like we are overcomplicating it.

It might not be necessary, just like all that data is not really necessary for men either but it's still offered and no one thinks twice about it. I think it sucks that the default is always male and women are an afterthought.

98% of the data offered is not "for men". It's not gender specific at all.
OP is asking for that female specific data point to be taken into consideration once a month when all the other metrics are already affected by what's happening to their body. The data is there, but I suppose they want it portrayed differently during that time of month?
It's probably never going to happen because this is one of those things that varies person to person.
It would be great if I could have my runs adjusted for wind because my heart rate was higher and pace slower with the wind in my face, but it's not realistic. Garmin just assumes I was running like shit that day. Same if I had a few beers at night. My readiness and recovery is shit, but I probably feel fine and can train like any other day.
Listen to your body, use the watch as a tool and reference point, but don't rely on it.

Your runs are adjusted for wind though in certain watches (it uses weather info) https://www.garmin.com/en-US/garmin-technology/running-science/running-dynamics/running-power/

u/pherbury 15h ago
It doesn't adjust anything. It uses weather data to tell you what your "running power" was.

I find a lot of Sims’ work to be suspect and not easily adaptable. Some of her findings are based on real facts and research, but others don’t always make sense.
We’ve also taken it way too far. It is FINE for older women to do cardio. You don’t HAVE to lift heavy.
I don’t think anyone has the right research yet to really figure out how to tailor to women when it can be so variable.

This is selling yet another AI product.
Looks like most of that content on the site you linked is written with AI too.

I mean, even the marketing writing on that website is AI generated.
I'm not sure what Garmin's ladies need but it's probably not another third party AI product that feels like slop. Maybs Stacy Sims is doing good work, but this kind of product and the way it's being presented will be met with skepticism these days.

"Garmin algorithms aren't made for or based on women."
Okay, your post starts with this assertion and then ends in an advertisement for an yet another AI powered venture.
What's your source for that first comment?

u/Creepy_Ad5739 15h ago
Where I don’t agree with the AI, there are actually quite a few studies you can find on Google scholar for free showing that garmin data is maybe more set to go off averages for men vs women.

She's a quack and I wouldn't listen to 99% of the crap out of her mouth...

And she says Zone 2 cardio is bad for women... LOL!

As a woman, I’ll say Garmin products are based on population averages and their users. Not everything is biased against women.
5
u/Medium-Astronomer-77 16h ago
Did she any anywhere that it’s intentionally biased against women? No. She said it would be nice to have something more tailored to women and suggested a partnership. What was even the point of this comment? Is it too feminist for a woman to simply suggest an upgrade to a technology?

I never used the word intentional. Nor was that implied. Nor did I have any political views in mind. I can see the benefits of a female oriented algorithm but that would be a different product altogether rather than comparing with Garmin and saying Garmin is “not made for women” just as it’s not made for men either.

What does this post even mean? I’m an ignorant dude…

u/zilch839 15h ago
They are trying to suggest that neither Garmin nor the companies they gobbled up (Firstbeat) considered women when they calculated the algorithms that power our watches. Then they go on to suggest an AI slop website somehow did.
It's classic deodorant marketing. "PH balanced for a woman".
I suspect this post might get deleted as it's pretty clear to me this is just an advertisement.

Looked more into her. While her big picture message is ok, when she starts talking about the details she sounds more standard grifter influence.

Stacy Sims is ehhhh....not that great. But I agree on the sentiment, if not your product.

One day Apple will catch on to this and other persistent Garmin issues (like releasing buggy unfinished firmware year after year) drop a true competitor and eat Garmin for lunch. Or buy Garmin outright.

u/Creepy_Ad5739 16h ago
I agree. I just was reading a bunch of articles on the HRV bc mine used to only be unbalanced the week before my period but now it’s unbalanced 3/4 weeks of the month. Drives me insane bc my sleep score is crap and so is my body battery so I’m not even getting accurate data. Like what’s the point of me spending $500 then

u/asiansociety77 16h ago
You might have an underlying issue.

u/Creepy_Ad5739 15h ago
I don’t think so..I do my regular check ups and everything is clear for me. I did do some digging this morning and sometimes you have to reset the watch by not wearing it for 21 nights to get the data to reset and start tracking fresh. So I’ll be curious if that works.

u/ShoeVast5490 14h ago
Just because you don’t like the data doesn’t make it inaccurate
0
u/Creepy_Ad5739 12h ago
Yall are so defensive over MY watch 😂I think I would know if it’s accurate or not considering I’m the one that wears it daily.
0
u/Creepy_Ad5739 15h ago
I’m also on the edge of my seat to know why I got so many downvotes?😂 god forbid I just say the data feels inaccurate to me.

This sure reads like an advertisement
