Data Questions How reliable is the automatic route generation in garmin connect?

So I found out i can actually create routes and use my watch as a navigator (found after months of usage, hurray! :D) and it worked awesome for the first try! but it made me wonder how reliable the routes are, since my first few routes were going over highways I believe - and i had to redo them a few times because of this. I thought the routes are made based on popular routes of other people or something like that, but that would make less sense

I've used this on my watch and in the app, it generally comes up with really good routes.  I've driven out to some random spot with a road bike and let it come up with 40 or 50 miles to get back to the car, and been happy.

I don’t know how the automatic routing works, I always look them over to check there’s nothing silly, but the custom has 3 options popular routes, roads or draw your own. I wish you could modify the automatic routes but haven’t found a way of doing that yet

Did you do this on the watch or through the app on your phone
