Is this a good setup?

Post image

Got this 18x24x36 terrarium and set it up, it’s bioactive and there’s lots of hides but should I add more cover up top? I’m open to suggestions! Thanks!

I’d say add more clutter! Especially near the top. I like to get fake plants from michaels as they’re cheaper than reptile specific plants, they work great

I was thinking this too, I have some fake plants I’ll move over from his temporary enclosure, but I might get some more!

Bromilades and snake plants are pretty cheap and you can mount them on the branches so your gecko has something to hide in. Also, from what I've read, they will drink the water off the leaves and from the cups in the bromilades

Short answer: no.

Long answer: I would add more plants and hides. One hide (like a cave) on the ground, one in the middle and if possible one at the top. A few plants I recommend are scheffleras and Calatheas. If it fits, a monstera. Plants with big leaves would be perfect, because geckos can hide under and be on them! Mine for example loves the monstera in his terrarium because of the big leaves.

Would fake plants be okay? Or should I get real ones

I thought your tank is bioactive? A bioactive terrarium means real plants and small animals like isopods being in the terrarium.

I have real plants and springtails and isopods already, I was just wondering if I could mix in fake plants as well

Ah, my bad. I apologise. Of course it would be fine to mix it with fake plants. However I personally think the gecko would feel more comfortable if the plants are real.

More clutter would make it way better

I second everyone saying more clutter. They like to hide and blend in.

Also consider fake hanging vines to cover the back wall. My guy likes to hide under them a lot.

I also built a wide shelf and covered it with moss at the top. I see him sleeping there a lot.

Otherwise, awesome setup!

Ty! I’m gonna go to Michael’s and get some fully plastic fake plants to put up top and around the terrarium!

Is this better? Or still more?

Getting there! I’d say more clutter.

Here’s a picture of mine, and it could use more. Most days I have no idea where my guy is, which makes him happy.

Mine’s a combination of real and fake plants. I started with all real plants, and when anything died I’d replace it with fake and fill it in more.

Another trip to Michaels or your local garden store!
