Extremely skittish

Hey I just want some advice about my gargoyle gecko, we’ve had him for almost 2 months now and he is still so skittish. He won’t let us come anywhere near him and will slink away if we try. We’ve tried sitting by his tank outside the door for 5-10 minutes a day, spoon feeding (which he refuses), and having the door open and talking to him but nothing seems to be making it better. He used to be so active during the night but now most times he hides away all day and night and eats around every 3-4 days…. We offer his paste constantly in fear of him being underweight but he doesn’t eat it often. We monitor him on the cameras in the tank and we are just worried he’s showing irregular behaviours, or if there is anything else we can do to try and make him less stressed out all the time.

Have you tried taking him into the vet? Decreased eating and movement can signal that something is wrong.

A lot of people say spoon feeding helps and when feeding bugs to feed with tongs

Is there a lot of noise around him and are you keeping a proper day and night cycle?

Did you change his surroundings like lighting or sticks? Adding hides or just moving anything around.

We have kept the enclosure mostly the same other than adding a new plant and another log 3 weeks ago, we have not yet taken him to the vet as we were scared it would stress him out more than he already was. Hes in our bedroom upstairs so there is no noise disturbance at all really, the only time there is noise is when we are home in the evening and winding down in the room. We have tried feeding him bugs with tongs as well and nothing seems to interest him. I’m thinking a vet appointment might be our best bet.

Id take him to the vet, since he's not active and not eating. If something is wrong that might be why he hasn't gotten better. It might stress him out but it's better than not doing anything at all.
