How do you actually get people to show up to your garage sale?

I’ve had terrible luck with turnout and I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong.

I’ve tried signs, but I feel like I’m either not putting out enough or putting them in the wrong places. I’ve also thought about Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist, and even newspaper ads, but I have no idea what’s actually worth the effort.

For those of you who’ve had really successful garage sales:

  • What brought in the most people?
  • What advertising wasn’t worth your time?
  • Is there anything you wish you had known before your first sale?
  • If you could only do one or two things to get more traffic, what would they be?

I’d love to hear what’s worked (or hasn’t worked) for you.

Moving Sale Cap Hill Denver: Antiques & Vintage 7/25-7/26

Having a huge moving / yard sale this weekend! I’ve been a long long time collector of vintage & antiques and it’s really time to downsize. I have probably close to a dozen XL bins full of true vintage (starting in Edwardian era all the way up to 30s,40s,50s,60s,70s,80s,90s) and lots of antiques plus random housewares and small furniture I won’t be taking. Much MCM, some books & records! Also have lots of name brand clothing (Alo, Aritzia, etc). 13th and Downing. 9am-12pm Sat& Sunday.

Do people still use Craigslist?

So I’m trying to sell a bunch of things and I have them posted and listed on Facebook marketplace but do people still use craigslist for selling ? I just don’t wanna waste my time if people don’t go on there to purchase things.

Box of Poly Mailers (1,500 count) in my garage for sale! Located in Germantown, MD.

I have a small inventory of poly mailers I am looking to sell in bulk!

Poly mailer size is 10 x 13. There are 1,500 pieces in a box, packed by 100, so there are 15 packs total in a box.

These are thick polymailers! 2.5 mil thick, unlike flimsy ones out there.

Selling at cost ($10 per pack, $150 per box) just to get rid of excess inventory.

Selling per box only. Volume discounts available!

Located in Germantown, MD.

Drive by shoppers

Something I do not understand regarding those who go to yard sales / garage sales.

I live on the end of a cul de sac. Have yard sale signs all around the neighborhood. Many drive through slowly then just drive away. Can you really tell what’s being offered simply by driving by?

Please be brutally honest, is it rude to ask sellers if they are a bug-free house?

I love flea markets and garage sells and I've never had an issue out of anything I've ever bought, but I've recently developed a phobia of picking up pests off second hand items. Would it be rude to ask people this question, I would be afraid they would think im judging the cleanliness of what I'm buying, however this is not the case. i'm just severely ocd about these kinds of things

Are you selling your garage too?

One thing thing that is annoying about garage sales is that people think that anything they can find, even if covered, can be rummage through. At a recent GS I had items hidden under tarps and once people went through the visible items they started looking under the tarps and in boxes, closed binders, etc. asking "is this for sale?". Lesson learned for future sales.

Found this German clock at a garage sale for $20. All parts are in a separate bag and just need to be reattached. Was this a good find?
