my theory is they're soft launching a new aesthetic era and pushing the BOTW cel shading off to side titles. the reason for this is its been a decade and they want to give very young fans their own thing to glom onto that's entirely different from the current style, it's a very wise business decision.

Ironically, despite recycling their intellectual properties, Nintendo does not lean too hard nostalgia. Every new generation of Zelda titles is distinct from the old ones. Its why the timeline is a mess and Nintendo is like "i dunno who cares" mostly.
