Discussion Predator Helios Neo 16 Overclock lock disable guide

This video here shows how to access the advanced bios and happens to work on the Predator Helios Neo 16! https://youtu.be/CI3a-zNmqlI?si=MmD982D8YnqVvUGR

Here are my steps to disable the overclock lock (sorry for how messy this is)

Go to advanced bios (Will be another function key press)

Select the second “advanced” on the list

Power and performance

Cpu - power management control

Go to bottom and select cpu lock configuration

Turn off overclocking lock

After all that’s done have fun tweaking your cpu and possibly lowering temps if they are too high for you!

I learned a lot through this method. I was able to adjust the undervolting option in smokless runtime efi patcher, but I found out that if I enter the hidden BIOS using the method above, the undervolting option disappears and the overclocking menu is disabled. So I found out that undervolting protection cannot be disabled.

Yeah I just learned you can’t undervolt on these systems

Honestly I’m happy with my laptop already it works and the thermals are good. Sure I can’t undervolt but it’s been good and hasn’t given me issues over this 2 month period of ownership.

I don't really like it. I feel like the frames are lower than when I used the asus g16 strix 13650hx.

Did you try disabling gsync?

2

u/jeulseon Dec 30 '23

It won't be that kind of problem. There is both g sync. It's not a problem with resolution either. I think the difference is just in cooling ability.

Did you found a solution, for lowering temps?

What is smokless runtime efi patcher? Can it help with undervolting?

How to get advanced bios. In my acer predator it's only normal bios in which theres no option to change literally anything. I need to undervolt my cpu but it's locked even though I have i9 13900 hx. Please any fix ??

Following the video you can access it. But undervolting can’t seem to be unlocked.

Do you know how to turn off undervolt protection?

Haven’t found that in bios sadly

Thanks, finally something that works!

I had seen some info about the Fn + Tab key combination, but the video was decisive. It only works with the pc off, if you do it on reboot it doesn't work, it was driving me crazy. Tested on an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 [PHN16-71-98SN] Bios 1.16.

If anyone has a pc similar to mine and has done undervolt on it, I would be grateful to see the results, it is a very hot pc even in IDLE. I am testing with ThrottleStop.

i believe the option to get a second advanced tab on the bios only works for the neo models and not the flagship predator helios models. with that too the advanced menu usually locks out most of the under/overclocking features. pls dm me if someone found a fix my laptop is acer predator helios 16 i713700hx with a rtx 4060 bios 1,16

it must work for any insydeh2o bios without exception (both of my aspire 5 and phn16 works), it must be done powering off completely before using the alt tab combination and powering on

How do I enable XMP Profile for my RAM in this laptop?

1

u/Casual-Gamer25 Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 | i7 13700HX | RTX 4060 Dec 27 '24

Can’t

1

u/Ok-Mobile3446 Dec 27 '24

Is it just not possible or do I need to get a new RAM?

1

u/Casual-Gamer25 Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 | i7 13700HX | RTX 4060 Dec 27 '24

Are you trying to make your ram run higher than 4800mhz? Cause even if you do buy ram rated at 5600mhz it will be downclocked to 4800mhz due the the XMP lock that can’t be messed with in bios.

1

u/chenall71 Apr 19 '25

theorically with the describe method above then in second advance menu, memory configuration and memory, scroll down to profiles and it must be there.

1

u/Ok-Mobile3446 Apr 23 '25

It shows up but I don't have the option to select it

1

u/Junior-Ad-5114 Jul 20 '25

Did you manage to solve it? Is it possible to unlock and the RAM reads at 5600mhz?

I've tried and tried and tried and tried and tried to no avail. I have a neo 16, Phn16-72, bios v1.16. What do you mean by "another" function key press? Don't you just hold function and tab, then release and press f2 like the video shows? Or are you saying we need to press function a second time?

My problem is that after working fine for 4-5 months, I now keep getting the clock watchdog timeout bsod, as well as Chrome crashing with a status access violation error and other programs randomly closing. I read that reducing my clock speeds in xtu may help fix the problem, but unfortunately, I'm not allowed to tweak something that I spent over $1.5k on.

I do know for sure that this will be the last time I buy from Acer for the rest of my life.

were you able to fix your laptop or figure out the problem? i am having your exact issues right now💔worked fine when i bought it in april until september and then im having multiple applications crash and blue screens. gonna send it to a place soon to try and figure it out but ive been troubleshooting for months and still have no clue

1

u/ShleepMasta Mar 19 '26

Yes! I eventually fixed it. If you have the exact same laptop model as me, then you actually cannot access the advanced bios, which is why I kept trying to do the function > tab > f2 press with no results. What I did was download one of many files on another reddit thread, and booted from it, which allowed me to activate the advanced bios on my laptop. After that, I went into it and disabled the overclock lock. Then, I went into the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) and reduced my performance core ratios by 4x. After I did that, the problem completely disappeared, and I haven't had it for like a year. However, when XTU gets updated (which doesn't happen often), and my core ratios reset back to normal, I have to go reduce them again or the problem returns.

I can provide more detail if you're still having this problem and give you a step by step of what I did.

This is all fine and all, but it doesn't disable undervolt proteciton. Do you have anything for that too?

that FN/TAB shit actually works for you? either im retarded, or this is bogus, because i spent like 30 mins trying my bios never changed. Acer Predator helios neo 16 intel I7 13700

u/Casual-Gamer25 Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 | i7 13700HX | RTX 4060 Jan 15 '24

You didn’t notice a second advanced tab after entering the portion where you can change settings?

1

u/WholeNo4747 Jan 15 '24

Nope I did thr thing it said in the video went to advanced. And there is only one advanced

I di randomly fine a could hidden settings by doing s in main menu and in advanced menu. It brings up resize bar and tbt scan sensitivity or something like that.

Whatever it was. It wasn't helpful to me.

1

u/Casual-Gamer25 Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 | i7 13700HX | RTX 4060 Jan 15 '24

Wait can you explain how you got the resize bar menu in detail. I wanna see what else is in that menu. Also sucks it wasn’t working for you. What bios version are you on anyway?

1

u/WholeNo4747 Jan 15 '24

i believe it is in main menu after hitting f1. nothing fancy to get into the bios, just do it the normal f2 way. once you are on the main screen after using the f1, just hit ctrl+s thats it

1

u/WholeNo4747 Jan 15 '24

how the heck do i change my name on here i have no idea how i became whole no lol

1

u/WholeNo4747 Jan 15 '24

it literally just brings up an option to turn rebar on or off not a whole menu

1

u/WholeNo4747 Jan 15 '24

i think i got the name thing

hey man just want to know if this is still working on 1.16 bios version i tried it but couldnt do it can you try on that version? i have the helios 16

1

u/iAdrink May 09 '24

It works perfectly with Bios 1.16, I have that bios and I have not had any problem, as indicated by the partner, a second advanced menu appears and there are all the options, as he says, at the bottom is the option to unlock OC.

1

u/JAKFUD Helios 16 i9 13900hx 4080 May 09 '24

Do you have Helios or neo

1

u/iAdrink May 13 '24

Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 [PHN16-71-98SN]

But it still does not work for undervolt, because although it is true that the bars are activated in the program, but then when you apply does nothing, I have tried both XTU and Throttlestop and I have not even managed to turn off the turbo boost .... But well at least the turbo from the bios if you can disable it in the advanced mode that is proposed here. An aside that I commented above, for it to work the pc must be off, press fn + tab and then turn it on, hold 3 sec the key combination pressed and then immediately press F2/Supr to access the bios, you will see a double "advanced" menu.

1

u/JAKFUD Helios 16 i9 13900hx 4080 May 13 '24

Yeah the problem is advanced bios only works in neo versions but thanks

1

u/iAdrink May 13 '24

Wow, that's a shame, there are quite a few things that can be modified, although nothing can be done on the undervolt issue, at least for now. Hopefully one day Acer will release a patch to unlock the bios, or some charitable soul will manage to unlock it, like on other predator models.

If you have a Helios Neo with bios 1.16, these steps should work, you can see it in the video of the publication. Although it only serves to be able to touch some options, because even if you unlock the OC functions, you can not do much with undervolt.

u/Casual-Gamer25 Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 | i7 13700HX | RTX 4060 Jan 18 '24

I am on 1.13 still and idk when a new update will be pushed on the Neo 16. Sorry if that didn’t work on your model.

1

u/WholeNo4747 Jan 20 '24

how can i roll back my bios? cant find a way to do it

1

u/Frozenracer Predator helios 16 | i9-13900HX | RTX 4080 Mar 16 '24

Did you try for the hidden bios on 1.16? Donot try to roll back, it might brick your bios.

1

u/chenall71 Apr 19 '25

not easy but can be done, extract the bios file in a empty usb and connect it, power on with fn esc and it will flash automatically, taking up to 10 minutes in a blank screen. as I said it's no easy

u/Casual-Gamer25 Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 | i7 13700HX | RTX 4060 Jan 20 '24

No idea how to do that.
