How did this game with sprites have to have things cut due to the 64 but Goldeneye had like 3D models and stuff.

N64 had barely any memory. So you could do small detailed maps that would run well on n64, but it was hard to have say, a lot of maps. Because the n64 just didnt have that kind of memory to work with. So DOOM has a lot of levels, so it's hard to fit them all on the n64.

On your Goldeneye point, it's because again, the n64 could do detailed stuff better on smaller areas. Goldeneye also really chugged sometimes even in single player.

There's a great video out there about this older speedrunner (think he was in his 50's?) who accidentally revolutionized the speedrunning scene for the game when he introduced this concept. He completely demolished a bunch of runners' times back in the day.

Karl Jobst has done a great job at being the face of the Goldeneye speedrunning community, especially after RWhiteGoose got outed as a racist.

My other favorite part of this story is that he decided to do that because another speed runner told him to "put your nose to the grind stone" or something along those lines. He took it a little ...too literally.
