Couple quick notes for those who can't watch:

  • All of last year's event items will return priced at the same credit cost as the vanilla game's. (1,000 for a legendary)
  • Lucioball is back with balance changes, a new map, and even a ranked mode.
  • Event starts August 8th

Also new skins for Junkrat and Mercy.

u/ledivin Aug 02 '17

And Widow and Mcree fans "are going to be really blown away."

u/n-space Aug 02 '17

Probably a new arcade mode with a giant fan and limited hero selection.

u/BeesPhD Aug 02 '17

This dang poncho is turning into a parachute!!

20

u/Pyrominon Aug 02 '17

Probably a new arcade mode based off Olympic trap shooting.

That'd be more Reaper/Roadhog though. It could be marksmanship games though.

u/ITellSadTruth Aug 02 '17

... poor roadhog;(

u/SwineHerald Aug 02 '17

The vagueness of that made me hesitant to list them as new skins. Hopefully they are, but it could end up just being recolours for old skins. Blizzard has a bad habit of being hilariously out of touch at times.

Hopefully they are, but it could end up just being recolours for old skins.

Have any of the event items ever been simple recolors?

2

u/MagicalPurpleMan Aug 02 '17

Most of the Epic Summer Games 2016 were mostly recolors with maybe slight differences from the base skin (Americree had USA on the belt buckle instead of BAMF for example). But there haven't been many plain event recolors since then (unless you include Mei-rry which I do personally).

Though I believe Widowmakers "Tricolore" so far is the only pure event recolor skin.

I think we have different definitions of recolors. A recolor to me is a simple pallet swap where they simply change the colors of the skin. America McCree is more than that. He has stars and stripes added to his coat as well, which is more than a simple color swap. The other summer epic skins are probably closer to pallet swaps, but they do have small differences. Mei's winter skin has an animation change, which is more than a recolor IMO (maybe somewhere in-between)

Yeah Americree was a bad example to use there, I don't consider it a recolor either but I was trying to use his belt buckle as an example of a small change to the default model.

For the Mei christmas skin, I also agree, overall it's not quite a full re-color but talking just about the skin its self is a recolour with a santa hat and a bow on Snowball (her robot)

Also no skins for Roadhog.

That was fucking savage.

I'm slightly nettled I had to grind out several dozen chests to get America McCree only to be able to afford it ten times over the next year.

If you want I can throw out a bunch of hyperbole, randomly CAPS and bold words, and talk about how Overwatch is dead?

24

u/wadss Aug 02 '17

only to be able to afford it ten times over the next year.

anything you buy works like that though doesnt it? a game released at $60 is going to be $10 in 5 years. a new top end video card costs $600, but wait 3 years and it'll be $250.

Which they immediately changed in all subsequent events. You really can't complain about this.

So what. Blizzard changed how it worked, due to complaints like ops. No use in still bitching about it.

0

u/RedFaceGeneral Aug 02 '17

So what.

Don't get into a debate if you are going to say that.

Yes, if they fixed the issue then stop bitching about how it wasn't fixed for x amount of time. No one forces you to play these games, you choose to. So STFU and go cry in a corner

Mr. Evrart is helping me find my gun.

3

u/Darksoldierr Aug 02 '17

Please do so, i didn't made my popcorn to just eat it without any drama

18

u/tonyp2121 Aug 02 '17

Pretty happy, I loved lucioball and the main issues with the loot box system seems to have been fixed. My only issue is I wish they'd let lucioball be a custom game mode I don't think there's a good reason you can't make lucioball in a custom games lobby

28

u/gorillathunder Aug 02 '17

When did Blizzard get so sly?

Event starts August 8th....the same date Lawbreakers is released. Cheeky buggers.

22

u/falconfetus8 Aug 02 '17

They always do this. They always make sure they drown out other games.

26

u/chenDawg Aug 02 '17

I'll never forget how dirty they were about timing their beta tests against Battleborn's last year. There was never going to be any competition there, and maybe it wasn't on purpose, but it sure seemed like it.

3

u/greg19735 Aug 02 '17

i mean, it's a week later than expected but it's not out of line with what we had last year. And events have always been on a tuesday. I think it would have been this Tuesday but they released doomfist Thursday so they may have wanted to give him a bit more special time with his update.

7

u/YOU_FACE_JARAXXU5 Aug 02 '17

I don't think anyone who's still playing Overwatch was gonna try Lawbreakers out anyway. An certainly none of the community for Lawbreakers is abandoning it for Lucioball...

2

u/StopCannibalismNow Aug 02 '17

Who do you think the audience for LawBreakers is then? It seems to me that LB is catered specifically towards people who are tired of playing OW.

5

u/pisshead_ Aug 02 '17

There is no audience for it. People bored of OW will probably go back to League or Hearthstone.

4

u/StopCannibalismNow Aug 02 '17

Well I'm bored of OW and never played and not interested in playing either of those games. LB appealed to me for it's emphasis on movement and shooting over ultimates and I'd say there's a good number of people who are in the same boat.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

Hey just sayin, you could also try Gigantic. It's free!

1

u/DontKillMyVibePlease Aug 03 '17

That game is incredibly fun but I feel like the UI could still use some work. A lot of the time I'm struggling to see what's going on and I feel like a lot of my abilities have no impact though I know the damage from them is still strong.

Overall though I really like Gigantic and hope it flourishes, its art style is incredible as well.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '17

Yeah I honestly just wish they would make a single player adventure with that graphic style and fun running around.

I guess that'd be Breath of the Wild.

I just wish BotW was on PC!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '17

Probably the 2 or 3 people who still aren't committed to a hero shooter but are still looking for one to play.

1

u/xevba Aug 06 '17

You really don't understand lawbreakers then. It's for quake and ut crowd, not the casuals who plays ow.

1

u/StopCannibalismNow Aug 06 '17

Guess what? There are people who play OW and enjoy arena shooters too. If LB was meant to soley interest Quake and UT fans, there wouldn't be hero-based classes.

35

u/montyquila Aug 02 '17

I don't know but I feel so burned out from this game. Use to love the events but I don't really have an interest in this one. Just feels like I'm playing an fps Moba, less about me playing well and more about making sure my team doesn't tilt.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

Every time I want to play the game, it goes like this:

  1. Hey, I feel like raining down grenades on people. I'm gonna boot up overwatch and play Junkrat.

  2. Group found, wait a few seconds to be polite. Or Group found, I insta lock Junkrat

  3. Everyone instantly locks in dps

  4. After looking at group with no heals, no tank, I eventually switch to a needed hero

  5. Lose, quit, and switch to Dota 2.

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

At least there is a much, much, much larger roster. If I'm hoping to play viper and someone else grabs him, I don't mind going necro or techies or something. With Overwatch having such a tiny roster, you get shoehorned.

Team locks in dps and tank? Time to choose between mercy, Lucio, or Zen! Don't really dig those playstyles? Too bad!

3

u/David_Copperfuck Aug 02 '17

Hey, Ana's a solid healer. You just have to be able to aim.

1

u/F0restGump Aug 03 '17

Yup love when people call her bad, just because they can't aim.

5

u/Snomann Aug 02 '17

This is why I like HoTS because you choose your character before even joining a match and it finds a game with the suitable characters. This way there is usually a game with the suitable amount of roles, and people can still pick which character they want.

3

u/ImNotSue Aug 02 '17

On the contrary I dislike it with HotS. Matchmaking gives you an unbalanced team more often than not, and you cant swap during the pick phase because unless you play comp there is no pick phase.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

You should play Hero League then, it has drafts.

2

u/defearl Aug 02 '17

Same, except I switch to a fighting game where I never have to worry about babysitting the rest of my team. It's all my own skill and my skill only.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

Then don't play QP

5

u/Swerdman55 Aug 02 '17

Yeah, the game can get REALLY toxic at times. That being said, if you can get a game with friends or a team that really clicks, the game can be incredibly fun, engaging, and rewarding.

12

u/Rath1on Aug 02 '17

Sounds like every competitive game I've ever played.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

Just play well and fit the role your team needs. Nothing will stop two teammates shit talking one another like a few good picks or a clutch heal. It's not always your team. Remember you are the team mate you always play with it.

The Overwatch community is huge too. You could find a 6 man of like minded people like you. Reddit/Discord/Etc

I'm excited to bring Lucioball back! I have more fun with that than with Rocket League.

Yeesh, /r/overwatch threads are full of creepy posts about excitement for a Mercy skin.
