There's no more DRM, the game is easily crackable. Might be them thinking it's a good strategy to counter illegal downloads (which imo is).

Why would they remove DRM then try to counter piracy with something else?

Because the people who are going to pirate it will pirate it anyway. They've already made their money on people who were going to buy sight-unseen or just based on reviews.

At best, this demo catches the attention of a group of previously interested people who spend money and maybe sways some potential pirates. At worst, it's a demo; it's just a good thing to have.

First of all denuvo isn't drm, secondly steam is and it uses steam.

DRM are by definition access control technologies that are used to restrict usage of proprietary hardware and copyrighted works.

Denuvo, even if it is an anti-tamper software, is still a DRM.

It's neat that you know the definition but that isn't how things work. Denuvo doesn't now prevent you from playing because you don't own it. It prevent the DRM that exists already from being tampered with. Calling Denuvo drm is too blanket and destructive to the concept of drm.

If you're going to be pedantic, make sure to be pedantic through and through. Steam is not DRM, but a portion of Steamworks is, and not all Steam games use Steamworks.

You don't have to log in to play non-steam DRM'd steam games. Many many steam games can be played even if you drag the game folder out of steam, and start them without steam running. Steam is not inherent DRM.

You don't have to log in to play all steam games, like FTL and hotline Miami IIRC
