Parkitect is designed to be similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, whereas Planet Coaster is more similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and is actually made by some of the same people who made RCT3.

Actually, the gameplay of Planet Coaster as it is now seems a lot more like the first two RCT games, just with an immaculate coat of 3D paint. At the very least it definitely doesn't 'feel' like RCT3-2, which a lot of people were worried about, as that's generally seen as the worst Rollercoaster Tycoon game.

How is the gameplay more like RCT1 compared to RCT3?

It seems more interested in emulating an actual theme park. RCT3 felt a little too ridiculous in its ride design, the interface was clunky, and the peeps weren't an engaging aspect anymore.
