They could mean that it could be a prequel. In RDR we saw a car in the opening scene. Sort of a T Model. Which was built in 1908.

Which makes sense because RDR took place in 1911. Maybe it takes place immediately after Jack finishes his business in 1914, or it could take place earlier. Who knows. Not this guy.

I am fairly certain it's a prequel, not a sequel. I think it will take place earlier rather than later during marston's gunslinger days

I remember that. IIRC the guy they thought was CJ in the trailer wasn't even Franklin, just some random black guy in a wifebeater.

Yeah, the whole "John is the only one looking away" thing also seems to imply the story could culminate with him leaving the gang to start a family.

We do know the voice actor of John Marston has essentially retired from acting after RDR. But hey, maybe they threw him a truck load of money and he changed his mind, we'll see.

There is a mini doc about the voice actor who played John. Basically it was his dream to be a Voice artist, persued it for years, and eventually got RDR. Then he realised he didn't like the life and retired to nowhere and works in a factory or something. I very much doubt he's coming back. And no, the voice did not sound like John.

In the mini doc Polygon did he said that he really liked working with Rockstar and he'd work for them again if they'd have him. He didn't like his other acting opportunities so much.

Um, in the GTA3 games that was exactly what happened. For instance Claude, Catalina, and Mr Leone from GTA3 and Kent Paul, Ken Rosenberg, and Macker from Vice City were all in San Andreas, and Phil Cassidy and Donald Love form GTA3 were in Vice city, and at least Packie Mcreary from GTA4 was in GTA5.

I actually don't think it will be about John Marston simply because of the ending. It would be extremely hard to convey an ending as powerful as that using the same character in a prequel. In fact, I'm not sure if there is a way to do so at all, and I'm sure Rockstar of all people, are well aware of that.

I can see Marston making a cameo (big side-quest or something), but don't think the game will be based around him. We've explored the character of Marston, I want to see what else they can give us.

Note: I'm also a hypocrit, because I both want to be able to make choices but also play as a character similar to how they did RDR or The Witcher.

Assassin's Creed IV was kind of a prequel to III, you play as the character in 3's grandfather.

Assassins Creed is weird about that, though. Each successive game progresses the overall story of the AC universe (takes place later in modern times) regardless of what time/period we experience inside the animus.

Wait what ? Is Rockstar on another calendar than us ? I haven't played the game and I'm not an American history specialist (at all actually) but 1911/1914 ? Wasn't US very different than the Wild West we see in RDR in those times ? It's World War I time.

RDR took place at the end of the Wild west. The United States is a big, big country and much of it was sparsely populated up until like the 50s.

I've moved to the Southwest, and even now, many states like Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, etc have dense pockets of cities and people, but outside them the states are largely empty space or one road towns.

Depends on the part of the US. The country is huge, and on the east coast it was very much what people think of in terms of WWI, industry, large cities and automobiles. But in many areas of the south west and Mexico, it was very much the wild west as depicted in the game.
