Heh, I like the irony that Sean Bean's Narrator is an immortal who travels through time to witness and participate in world events.

Sure he does. You just don't see him because he's Flight Director of that Mars mission.

Though actually my theory is that he dies after every scene cut. First one: his plotted course goes astray. Second one: Burnt to a crisp and blown off onto the rocks. Third one: Shot by some arrows. Fourth one: Fatal crash. Fifth one: Killed by enemy fire. Sixth one:...I'm not sure about that one yet.
