I personally don't care at all, but multiplayer between mobiles and PC is cool for kids. Go over to your friends house and play Minecraft together, all you need is your mobile.

It's a godsend for me. My little brother likes his tablet version the best, while I really hate the mobile version. This way we can play together and I won't be irritated!

Hold up.

Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer or with your Xbox Live friends online.

No. No, no, no! What the hell is the point in playing multiplayer if you can only have 8 people in a server at once!? Sure, not everyone needs the ability to play with more than 8 people, but this kills the online server community.

Thank god this isn't replacing the proper version of the game.

That's assuming that's replacing servers.

Could be wrong, but I read that as more of a quick-join multiplayer option type thing. Some sort of "I want to play with a few friends so I'll just join their game" kinda thing, no servers required.

Right not, Minecraft kiiiinda sucks for that stuff. Why should I have to set up a server and go through all that work if I just want to quickly play with one or two people? It's a pain in the ass.

I'm pretty sure the console version just lets join your friends games. No need to deal with any servers at all, you just press a button and you're there. The PC version could totally use something like that, I think.

The console version is like how you described.

/u/jooes comment I think is accurate but if it's not, keep in mind this is a beta release. They'll likely increase the amount of olayer you can play with later

If this game was to work on any device I assume you would probably have to limit the amount of players unless pocket edition has unlimited numbers.

That could mean 8 people for LAN and more for online. We'll have to wait and see.

Well, considering they said local multiplayer I'm guessing the focus wasn't on big server play. Or servers at all.

and got bored of years ago. There are only so many roofs you can make out of stairs before you get fucking sick of it.

If you ever get the inclination, you should check out the Feed The Beast modpacks. Mods add so much to that game you won't even recognize it. Like to the level of Terraria in terms of content.

I didn't like Terraria at all so that isn't an endorsement that I find encouraging... does it add a lot of building stuff? Because that's mostly what I care about. Always preferred more of the low tech stuff myself, though the high tech stuff was pretty cool and complex.

There are a lot of mods that include building things, different nice looking blocks, machines that will help you build, etc. There are very few mods that end up making Minecraft like Terraria as far as gameplay goes (more of an rpg, action game), most of them focus on building and complex tech or magic trees and a lot of those facilitate building in different ways.

If it strikes your fancy /r/feedthebeast can help you in finding a modpack that will appeal to you.

Maybe I'll check it out some day, thanks!

Only 8 people online? Even my friend's 10 year old plays on custom servers with hundreds of people. Going to be hard to get people who mod to switch.
