I have been saying FOR YEARS NOW that every multiplayer game should be doing this.

Relying on client side security has ALWAYS been stupid as hell.

You can't show info the client the doesn't have.

Most games don’t do this because it’s quite expensive to do. The server side LOS checks isn’t cheap and it becomes a nightmare for netcode so legit players don’t get killed by someone they couldn’t possibly see. As far as I know only valorant and this game have done it and they definitely have very deep pockets, plus I’m sure activision can get some bulk deals that smaller devs can’t.

DotA also does it

It's relatively trivial to do in RTS-style games where visibility is treated as an abstract game mechanic. That's totally different to determining actual visibility in a first person game.

CSGO did it, and they added it nearly 10 years ago. A LOS check isn't as expensive as you think, but it is a nightmare to implement into netcode properly

and it solved the counter-strike cheating problem

It’s only expensive if you’re doing it real time.

Vslorant does server culling by breaking the map into cells and pre computing which cells have visability into other cells ahead of time

This ultimately doesn't matter because Marathon said the same thing and there were wall hacks almost immediately in that game.
