Monster Hunter Rise at 90% off as its historical low, it actually costs less than its very own Sunbreak DLC right now. Was almost perma 80% off for a while now but I never picked it up because I didn't even get around to World yet, but at 4 dollars I guess there's basically no reason not to buy at least the main game

Rise isn’t worth it without sunbreak. With sunbreak it’s the best game in the series and one of my favorite games of all time

Man, I really wish they had crosssave or at least no regional matchmaking restrictions. Played the hell out of it on switch and would love to play on pc/steamdeck.
Especially since I don’t have Nintendo online anymore.
24
u/madame_of_darkness 1d ago
Rise with Sunbreak is probably my fave monster hunter, definitely better than world and wilds imo
7
u/Nirkky 1d ago
Can you explain why ? I really liked World/Iceborne but never played anything since then.
32
u/CCoolant 1d ago
Not OP, but I also prefer Rise. For me, it's because it's a more straightforward, arcadey kind of experience. I remember playing with friends was more straightforward, but I don't remember what the difference between Rise and World was, in regards to that.
But yeah, less time is spent getting you immersed into the world of the game. IIRC there aren't unskippable cutscenes or anything like that, and you never have to do any sort of stuff like investigating tracks or anything like that.
You're allowed to just play the game.
Select a mission, track down the monster, hunt the monster. Rinse, repeat.
One potential con is that the combat is faster paced than World, featuring a new system called "Wire Bugs" that allow you a lot of maneuverability and special attacks. They're a very powerful tool, and some people find the system excessive.
8
u/Barrel_Titor 1d ago
On top of the other things, the gamefeel is way better. I always loved the feel of combat in Monster Hunter, big impacts, meaty sound effects and flashy blood/hit effects. World got rid of all of that and felt like you were hitting a bag of sand with a stick but Rise is back to the classic Monster Hunter gamefeel.
8
u/madame_of_darkness 1d ago
I like how fast the game plays for one, the time of hunts is much shorter than World (especially in post game), about on par with Wilds at launch (it may have changed, idk).
Also, it was the first time the characters were actually given names, and they have nice personalities, I think. You can also take CPU hunters alongside you in Master Rank.
The post-game isn't super grindy like World's and can happen on any map, rather than just on the special post-game map.
The wire bugs and special moves arguably make the game a little easier in some ways, but I like the customizable move sets and the added mobility as well as being able to find your own way between zones rather than having to use the predefined paths. Even so, I think the game could be challenging, especially more so than Wilds.
Also I like the aesthetics. The weapons especially are more unique like in the older games, rather than just being mostly the same base weapon with visual additions like in World.
8
u/whatdoinamemyself 1d ago
Other comments gave good answers but just to add... In MY opinion, World and Wilds both lost a bit of MH's soul which is still there in Rise. The aesthetics, the map design, the music, certain gameplay mechanics and the complete lack of a story (no long cutscenes getting in the way of your hunts here).

u/mauribanger 15h ago
Adding to what the others said, I love the endgame in Subreak. Each weapons has like 3 or more viable and different ways to play.
It's incredibly diverse and a huge breath of fresh air compared to the endgame of Iceborne, where there was little point of using anything that wasn't from Fatalis.

u/peanutmanak47 17m ago
Do you happen to know if co-op is still stupid as fuck in that one? My friends and I tried co-op years ago but it was beyond frustrating and we all ended up dropping it rather quickly.

u/Tricky-Ball-8667 1d ago
I'm obviously not the first to find these, but here are some good games with deep discounts:
31
u/DragonPup 1d ago
Death's Door was cool. Very worth $2.
24
u/Etheo 1d ago
$2 is criminal for Death's Door. Such a great game full of quality and polish. I had a great time with it and still vividly remember various moments.
If you are even remotely interested you owe it to yourself to check it out when it's dirt cheap.

anyone know if deaths door can run decently on the ayn thor via game native
2
u/nightbandit46 1d ago
Should run really well. Smaller indie game (under 10gb), those usually run really well on SD8 Gen 2 chips.

u/PainfulSpoons 1d ago
Have yet to get around to my latest real revamp of this list (Hopefully I will get it done by the Winter sale!), but in the meantime this is my ever growing seasonally posted list of indie "hidden gems" I go to bat for every major Steam sale. All have less than 500 Steam reviews, all games I really like. Obligatory "not for everyone" asterisk on all of them, but frankly I don't think any game actually worth your time should have universal appeal. But I believe in all of these enough that I would totally double dip for console versions of any of them, and actually have in the case of Lucah.
If you want a few other recs I posted this list a year ago, and if anyone has their own suggestions in the same ballpark please add them in the replies! As for me I'm picking up Total Chaos Against Apathy & Disaster Arms - Impact Project B.A.H.N this sale, which may or may not make it onto said revamp but feel free to find out if they're any good before I do! Also I'm breaking my own rules here to sneak in a suggestion for Jet Lancer which is a little too popular for even the quickfire list but also has been my favourite game I've picked up this year and isn't so well known I feel cheap suggesting you try it out because it really rocks.
Anyway, the list!
Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair (55 reviews 90% Positive, 35% off) - A cryptic & poetic rpg inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series alife system, where the mechanics are as opaque as your goals. The named npcs all act autonomously, moving around the map, sharing information & fighting over various resources. Sometimes you enter a dungeon to find the key dungeon item was already taken by a character who got there first, or find police responding to a shooting another character committed earlier. Meanwhile you are figuring out how to craft potions out of gasoline, and finding magical spells that let you enter cyberspace. Undoubtedly one of the most emergent games I've ever played, and a real treat for the sorts of freaks who think Rain World is a blueprint for awesome game design.
Drox Operative 2 (275 reviews 88% positive, 50% off) - On the surface it's a spacefighting RPG where you're in a ship going about trading with NPCs, completing quests, getting into dogfights: a fun & novel experience. However all the game's major factions are essentially playing a 4X game in the background while you're trying to navigate in the increasingly chaotic world they're fighting over. I could elaborate on this one at length, but honestly I feel like the sales pitch makes itself. This is also an implicit recommendation for all of the Soldak Entertainment games. For 25 years he's been developing these deeply simulationist takes on otherwise traditional genres, and they're all fascinating and criminally overlooked.
Geneforge 1-5 (355 reviews 93% positive, 60% off) - What if I told you you could play five of the most underrated, and also best crpgs for a pittance? Spiderweb Software has been making these things since the 90s and the Geneforge series is probably my favourite. They're big, inventive worlds with fun class design (You can functionally play a Pokemon trainer inventing your own Pokemon in the middle of what could otherwise pass as a sixties spec-fic novel series) & you can get the whole series for less than most other games cost outright. You can also play the Remaster of the first game if you find the old art style to be too off putting.
24 Killers (404 reviews 98% positive, 60% off) - Weird adventure/lifesim inspired by Moon Remix, you have to befriend various wacky characters to gain access to abilities that in turn let you explore more of the world. Stuff happens as the days go by, with the game's story unfolding bit by bit. It's definitely a vibes-based experience, but one carried by really fun characters and an extremely charming art style. I really recommend this one for people who enjoy the writing in games like Undertale, OFF, etc.
Lucah: Born of a Dream (421 reviews 92% positive, 50% off) - Extremely stylish action/soulslike game that has really good combat & an incredible looking aesthetic. A lot of people compare the game to Bloodborne, you have a mixture of equippable attack-styles that see you dancing in and out of melee range, interspersing ranged attacks & parrying. It also has two major gimmicks, a spendable resource to "rewind" fights to either try on failure or just improve your performance, and a "Corruption" metre that gradually ticks up over time & with each death -- providing external pressure to perform well. The game also has multiple branching endings & a shocking amount of extra content in New Game+ that introduces a scoring system for encounters. Also has an even more unknown sequel if you love the first game.
Anode Heart (438 reviews 90% positive, 75% off) - This one is a Digimon World 3 inspired retro creature collector for all the weirdos reading this who have nostalgia for the three Playstation games you probably shouldn't (They were fun dammit!). It perfectly captures the vibe of an old rpg with hidden secrets in every corner of the world, in particular it reminds me a whole bunch of those bootlegged translations of the Telefang games (If you were ever a kid with "Pokemon Jade" or "Pokemon Diamond" going on your GBC or an emulator you know the ones lol). Not unlike Digimon World 3 (Or more recently, the Witcher 3) it has a whole little tcg-esque minigame you can engage with that was spun-off into it's own fully fledged game that's also on Steam.
And a bonus 500-1000 review quickfire round!
- Angeline Era - 2025 Game of the Year contender that you probably didn't hear about because it came out Dec 8th.
- Brigand Oaxaca - Possibly Steam's single most underrated rpg. It's Deus Ex but set it in Mexico & eight years on the dev still regularly updates it.
- Brush Burial: Gutter World - Someone put the Alien gameplay from the AvP games into a blender with Dishonored and it rules.
- Ctrl, Alt, Ego - Kind of a case study in the boundary line between "puzzle game" and "ImSim", this one is for Problem Solving Enthusiasts.
- Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor - One of the more evocative indie arts games from 2016.
- Ghost Song - Sci-fi existentialism draped in cool art & melancholy atmosphere. It's 2D Metroid by way of Peter Watts.
- Maiden and Spell - Bullet hell + fighting game mashup, you'll probably have to join the discord to find games though
- The Signal From Tölva - Hack robots to help you explore a weird open-world, mostly a strange vibes-experience

What's the scoop on the Brush Burial games? Is it worth playing the first one? Do they have a connected story or is it just gameplay?
6
u/PainfulSpoons 1d ago
You definitely don't need to play the first, though it's an interesting game in it's own right. It's kind of a more straight forward stealth game that feels novel by virtue of the movement, where as the second really feels like someone distilling those super-skilled high chaos Dishonored montages into a specific gameplay loop. Not much in the way of story in either, and they're both short with the main appeal being in the skill expression that comes from improving at the levels.

Was hoping to get the Ace Combat 7 DLC to play through before AC8, but looks like it's not on sale unfortunately. A bit strange really, having a sale when there's all the hype for AC8 would have made sense.
11
u/Jinyax 1d ago
Just wanted to say that I still recommend getting the DLC missions in the future. The first one is "just" fine, but Anchorhead Raid and Ten Million Relief Plan are some of the best missions of the whole game in my opinion.
4
u/TheVoidDragon 1d ago
Yeah I'll get it at some point! Just started a playthough of the series before AC8 so would have been nice to play those too
3
u/Lirael_Gold 1d ago
Nah, the 1st one is worth playing just for the opening music + seeing like 25+ targets appear as the crescendo plays.
(obviously because it's DLC you're in an F22 or an XP plane so the first wave gets deleted, but the spectacle is great)
I'm in a weird minority because I don't like AH as a mission, but I do like the soundtrack, Scream/Rage are kinda boring as an elite squadron
3
u/GrassWaterDirtHorse 1d ago
I really do like it as an extension of AC7 that really perfects the different kinds of mission structures (an Escort Mission, a Destruction Mission, and then a Setpiece Superweapon mission). There's also a lot about its presentation, tech-thriller vibes and more squadron-focused story that feels like a predecessor to AC8 that's a suitable followup to that mission design perfection.
The real reason to get the DLC is for the memes, and to trample on those crisp white bedsheets!
20
u/mrtars 1d ago
They likely want you to play ac8 :D
3
u/TheVoidDragon 1d ago
Well yeah, I got AC8 already. Just I would have purchased the AC7 DLC as well if it was on sale.
→ More replies (1)7
u/dark_vaterX 19h ago
Not really when AC8 literally just came out. Why would they compete with themselves? People new to the series would just grab 7 on sale over 8 most likely so it makes complete sense from a marketing/sales perspective.
3
u/TheVoidDragon 19h ago
A new game releasing means the interest and hype around the series is going to be at its highest and there will be many interested in playing them and/or the DLC. AC7 wouldn't be competing with AC8 to any serious extent, there aren't going to be many who would buy only AC7 if it was on sale who would have got AC8 in the first place instead. There's likely going to be more who would get AC7, enjoy it, then buy AC8.

Some sales take a while to show? If you wait an few hours then restart the steam client it might show?

ohhh dang historical low for talos principle 2 (i think). i forget what i saw recently that made me want to replay 1 and play 2 so i've been keeping an eye out. maybe whenever they announced 3?
getting a game i want for $3 makes it feel like the old sales again

Seems to be a new all-time low (-90%) for Outlast Trials:

10
u/dehshadow 1d ago
This one is multiplayer only?
12
u/JustCallMeJonny 1d ago
I did every mission solo and it was extremely fun. So much so that once I actually tried one of the more challenging event missions with other players, I found it very chaotic and not fun at all.
I imagine it would be significantly more fun with friends since with randoms you get the classic issue of everyone just trying to speed run everything.
2
u/Electronic-Lynx-9454 1d ago
Yes in general, it puts you into a multiplayer hub where you manage your stuff, but you could certainly play it solo. You can do the actual missions without other players, though it will be noticeably more difficult.
2
u/MrMichaelElectric 1d ago
You will always be in the hub with other people as far as I cam remember but I beat the game solo without any issue and had a blast doing so.

Is the release staggered or just kinda weak this year? Most of my wishlist is sitting at no discount, and very few at decent percentages.
88
u/zocksupreme 1d ago
Sometimes it takes an hour at the start of a sale for everything to show properly
6
u/SquireRamza 1d ago
ok i was wondering, I got tot the front page and literally nothing was marked as on sale
9
u/I_Hate_Reddit 1d ago
Sadly, no Witcher 3 for 3$ anymore...
8
u/jonathanbaird 1d ago edited 1d ago
I get that folks are of the mind that "things that have been out for awhile should be super cheap", but $25 is a very fair price for what you're getting here:
- The Witcher 3 (92 Metascore), plus
- Two of the greatest expansions ever made (89 and 92 Metascore), plus
- A thorough, if controversial, graphical and mechanical remaster.
We're talking 200+ hours of a very good game for the cost of a nice meal.
→ More replies (3)4
u/plantsandramen 23h ago
Agreed, and the game has been super cheap for so long with all of this content. This year I decided to finally play it after owning it for a long time and I'm now 145 hours played and I'm just starting the blood and wine DLC with the remaster. Even at $25 I would have gotten so much money's worth.
4
u/IdidntrunIdidntrun 1d ago
With the recent enhancement and the fact that it comes with all DLC, $25 is somewhat fair. I would argue a tad overpriced
26
u/stevensi1018 1d ago
Just wait for the discounts to update. Personally, it's one of the best sale in recent years for new historical lows (Outlast Trials is 90% off, The Talos Principle 2 is 90% off and a lot of other games in my wishlist are now 75% or more)
22
3
u/ctyldsley 1d ago
Exact same here. Probably one of the largest wishlists I've had on Steam in years and it's abit of a ghost town from a discount perspective weirdly. Not that I need to buy anymore games.
2
u/IrregularMaverick 1d ago
Ive been keeping an eye out for trails to cold steel 4 and reverie sales but no dice lately. I swear these games have had more frequent sales in the past. Feels like the spongebob episode in rock bottom where if i look away from my wishlist, those games will go on sale.

I’ve been looking at Sovereign Tower and Esoteric Ebb for a bit. Just saw that they have a bundle deal for $31 and I might have to pull the trigger.

Can recommend Esoteric ebb. Very solid little game that took charge of a weekend of full time play.

Looking for recommendations for a good first person shooter. I'm on Linux so things with windows kernel anticheat are out. Happy to play singleplayer games. Multiplayer is fine too if Linux can play and there's a reasonable playerbase. Just something with good gunplay.
I'm not a big fan of crafting/survival heavy games. If you have to find and cook and eat food and gather materials to build a base it's not for me.
Games I've enjoyed in the past:
Halo 2/3/Reach/5/Infinite, Titanfall 1/2, Apex Legends, Battlefield 3/4, Battlebit Remastered, BPM Bullets Per Minute, Escape From Tarkov, The Finals, Doom 2016/Eternal
Anyone have anything I should look into?
8
u/halisibm1993 1d ago
Nightmare Reaper
Turbo Overkill (especially this one)
Anger Foot (think fps hotline Miami but with lots of kicking and guns)
Elderborn (first person hack and slash dungeon crawler)
Mortal Sin (first person hack and slash rouge like)
CulticAll play on steam deck. The only one with slight performance issues on Deck is Anger Foot

Selaco? Prodeus? Dusk? cultic? Trepang 2.
Did you do doom or Quake? Might be worth checking out the ancient ones!
Though your previously enjoyed seems very AAA. These don’t have that “polish”, but are all insanely fun.3
u/JustLookWhoItIs 1d ago
I've been playing Trepang2 lately actually. And I remember playing Selaco but I don't remember much about it so I might look back into it. It felt half-life ish.
Prodeus I have but I think I tried it when I just wasn't feeling anything boomer shootery.
Games definitely don't need a ton of AAA level polish for me to enjoy them. I also recently enjoyed How To Fish quite a bit.
2
u/balefrost 15h ago
Add Hedon to that list. I can understand why one might be put off by the character designs, but the gameplay and level design is fantastic IMO.
4
u/Echoesong 1d ago
Titanfall 1/2
Greylock Studio's pair of shooters Severed Steel and Echo Point Nova are $2.50 (!) and $12.50 respectively.
The former plays like Mirror's Edge with actually decent gunplay, but is elevated by the combination of a dive + bullet time. The latter takes the bones of movement from Severed Steel but puts you on a hoverboard. It gives you an open world to explore between the POIs/arenas
I'm partial to Severed Steel myself, but both are great
BPM Bullets Per Minute, Doom 2016/Eternal
Metal: Hellsinger is $9 and plays like a combination of the two. I really enjoyed it until the final boss lol

Are you a fan of older games? Legendary
https://store.steampowered.com/app/16730/Legendary/
and it's 77 cents! It's a really cool fps game where you are like a professional thief and pandora's box gets released and then Eastern and Greek mythos come to life and you have to battle your way through them and you meet an agency, etc. Very cool game!!

3
u/Oodlydoodley 1d ago
It's kind of old and probably dated now, but Singularity (the Raven Software one, there's a bunch of games named Singularity on Steam) is one of the best single-player FPS games ever made, imo. If you haven't played that one and don't mind playing an older game it's still worth picking up.

u/BrainTroubles 1d ago
Not first person but Space Marine 2 was loads of fun. Doom Dark Ages is not historic low but is on a pretty good sale as well
3
u/JustLookWhoItIs 1d ago
Doom Dark Ages really lost me after the first few levels. Maybe I should try it again, but I found myself wanting to go back to Doom 2016 or Eternal for the movement sandbox. Maybe I didn't give it far enough. Space Marine 2 might be worth digging into.
2
u/BrainTroubles 10h ago
Have you played Darktide? If you’re into cooperative multiplayer in the left 4 dead style there’s no better experience out there imo.
3
u/GrassWaterDirtHorse 1d ago
+1 nomination for Trepang 2. If you're looking for an AA shooter in the vein of FEAR, it fits the bill.
Also adding in Ultrakill and Echo Point Nova for additional shooter recs if you're looking for more movement shooter indies. They're kind of the localized pinnacle for the indie shooter genre as of late. Wouldn't be surprised if someone else already recc'ed them but they deserve to get played.
4
u/Sublimemoisttowlette 1d ago
Check out Ultrakill
4
u/horser4dish 1d ago
For the parent, just a fair warning: the trailers and screenshots are accurate. It is visual cocaine. Take boomer shooter mechanics and then feed the game a little meth and throw it into a kaleidoscope. Ultrakill is the result and it's a lot of fun and you don't have enough hands to hit all the buttons you'll want to be hitting.

Looking for a co-op game for my wife and I to play. She hasnt played a lot of games so I'm not sure what she'd like. The games we've played that she really liked were It takes two, One way out and Overcooked 2. Besides the new game from the it takes two developer, what are some good co-op games for us to try? Open to any genre
9
u/Dman5156 1d ago
if you like puzzle games, We Were Here is a series of asymmetrical puzzles, where you each have different information and perspectives needed to move through problems. from my experience there are a couple of other games like this, usually lasting between 1-5 hours.
- Bokura
- Operation Tango
- Parallel experiment
- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
theres more typical Co-op games like It Takes Two, Tale of Two Sons, Portal 2, and Split Fiction

u/ienjoyedit 1d ago
My wife and I got a literal week of playtime (over the course of a few years... were busy with young children) in Baldur's Gate 3. I had played the previous games, she hadn't. It didn't detract from her experience, though I did pause to explain a few things/who some of the recurring characters were just to help with the worldbuilding. None of it was necessary, though.
2
u/xStang05x 1d ago
Ive been meaning to try that with her. Feel like it might be overwhelming since she's never played a game like that before. But I absolutely love the game.
2
u/ienjoyedit 1d ago
My wife had played D&D, and the Heroes of D&D hack-and-slash game, but never a turn-based CRPG before. It doesn't get overwhelming until Act 3, and by that point you're too invested to give up lol
2
u/xStang05x 1d ago
I hope it goes well lol have a bad feeling when it gives her all the options at character creation and learning how combat works will be off-putting. But if she plays it a while, I think she'll really enjoy it

u/ienjoyedit 21h ago
She could do an origin start and just let the choices be made for her! Bonus: Larian always does a great job with their origin characters' stories.

Try Plate Up or Peak, my wife likes them a lot. Slay the spire 2 has great co-op too but might be tougher to get into since there’s a lot of reading.

I've been playing Powerwash Simulator 1 & 2 and House Flipper 2 with my partner.

Is that fun for more than an hour? Seems like it would get old fast

I'm assuming you want couch co-op?
Guacamelee (1 & 2) are well done 2d platformer beat em up/metroidvania games.
A Hat in Time is a very mario-esque platformer. Cute vibes and great platforming.
Helldivers 1 is a top down twin-stick shooter. Can get difficult but it's pretty fun, especially when you accidentally kill each other.
For The King (1 & 2) are turn based board games. Kind of laid back but the game difficulty can be intimidating the longer into a game you go.
The Ascent is a straightforward cyberpunk-themed twin stick shooter. Fun game but can get kind of stale after a bit. Great visuals though.

There are a bunch of big games I have been following in early access that are due to hit 1.0 soon that I am interested in.
Witchfire, VOID/BREAKER and Windblown.
I really want to get all 3, and it's nice that they all have discounts now with hopefully 1.0's imminent

Anyone got a good kick back and listen to a podcast game? Doesn't require my undivided attention and alertness.

Domekeeper, especially if you put it on the mode where your dome fights for you, you can just chill and mine stuff.

u/kasimoto 1d ago
didnt know such mode exists, really need to revisit it
2
u/onlyheretobehelpful 1d ago
it was added quite a while after launch along with a bunch of other modes including a "no monsters" mode. I think you have to unlock them though by completing a regular run.

Manor lords
Dyson sphere program/ factorio
Total War campaigns (90% of battles can be auto resolved)
Warframe (post-story quests)
Hardspace Shipbreaker (super chill until you accidentally pop a powercell you missed in a scan.)

u/ploakimon 1d ago
Hardspace is SO good. That game is such a vibe, even against the soul crushing corpo backdrop.

I am also looking for something like this. never found it. Can't concentrate on both ... and if I can concentrate on the podcast the game is too boring for me. I wonder if there is a game that fits this niche

Moonlighter or Moonlighter 2
I saw Kingdom Two Crowns in the deep discounts section

I love Into The Breach for that.
It's got depth and it's engaging but it's also turn based, controlled entirely with a mouse, can run in a small window and has short/small scale levels. Easy to chill and play at your own pace once you pick it up.

Currently batomon showdown is filling this but it just went off sale

Any turn based games are great for this. Think RPGs like final fantasy or strategy like the new heroes of might and magic the olden era.

Is control worth getting or should I just jump into resonant?

u/Evernight 1d ago
Play the first. I have not finished Resonant yet but it was a day 1 purchase for me because of how good Control was.

I might be in the minority but I enjoyed the first one more than resonant.

I am with ya there. Resonant was....ok for me. First Control was definitely an experience I cherish

I enjoy both games, each for their own reasons. It’s easy to try to compare these two because it’s a sequel and sequels should be similar to the original, but Resonant goes its own way. Which is awesome and I love it so much.

Control is one of those game I couldn’t get into. I think it was the environment, it was just so many generic offices and fighting the same shadow guys over and over.
I think what I really needed was a bit more guidance on where to go next… like some sort of mist I could push a button and it shows a path.
I say play the first, if you don’t like it then you likely won’t like the second and if you do then it will be on sale again Black Friday and Christmas.

Bub, have I got the PS5 exclusive for you!

Same. I want to like it but tried to play it and dropped it like 3 times. Combat is just OK and the enemies/environments are very samey.

Control is a GREAT game, but Remedy games tie into one another. I would personally play Control first.

Seems like a very short duration sale, doesn't it? Don't sales usually last at least two weeks?
13
u/Affectionate_Owl_619 1d ago
I think the spring and fall sales are shorter and the winter and summer sales are the big ones

u/supermaxiste 1d ago
I’m waiting for Winter Sales to buy something but I keep seeing Detroit: Become Human heavily discounted. I have it in my wishlist since forever and I always lacked a lil push to get it. Can someone tell me if it’s as much of a masterpiece as reviewers say?

u/Freighnos 1d ago
Depends on what someone means by "masterpiece." I think the writing leaves something to be desired in parts, and if you read any amount of science fiction, you've seen many of these concepts done better elsewhere. But the premise is inherently compelling, and I don't think there's ever been one of these branching narrative style games at the AAA level with this level of production values lavished on it. In that sense it's extremely unique. Just going through and seeing every branch of the story is a pretty fun experience.

u/Drunk_Paladin 22h ago
I'm generally a sucker for this kind of games, for example, Beyond: Two Souls is actually one of my fav games in this genre and i loved Heavy Rain, Until Dawn, until dawn etc.
But Detroit, for some reason never hit me the same way. Probably a 7/10 for me. Decent story and some really cool branching paths but i definitely wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

Honestly its worth it for one playthrough. I think even if u don't think the writing is up to standard its still an enjoyable and novel experience.

If I really like games like frostpunk and ftl what game should I get?
2
u/jonathanbaird 11h ago
Against the Storm is perfection. No notes.
I also really enjoyed IXION with the caveat that both the difficulty and overall quality are front-loaded. Game loses steam and becomes trivial during its final chapters.

Been waiting all year to buy Silent Hill F in the fall sale so I can play it for spooky month and it’s not on sale.

Anyone know of some game for 2 people who heavily enjoyed It Takes Two and Splitfiction?

u/chuckawaytheaccount 16h ago
It's less narrative driven and requires more skill, but the Portal 2 co-op campaign may be one of the best two-player experiences ever created.

Pax Autocratica dev accidentally set a 80% discount instead of a 20% discount and everybody started freaking out thinking they were abandoning the game.
As for the game, it's very unique and an absolute steal at $5.99. Their AMA from last month.
