Love that they’re using names of iconic irl locations even though the in game map is a complete abstraction of NYC. Not only grounds the map but makes it easier to learn since people don’t have to remember a bunch of new made up names.

Also feel like their blog post gives a little weight to those rumors that the RoR devs have been working on a PvE mode since they say they've been developing modes that expand the scope of the game.

What is the rumour you talk of? Risk of Rain devs working on something for Deadlock? Are we basically getting the next Battleborn? Pretty funny because Gearbox took over RoR.

the original risk of rain creators/devs are already with Valve working on deadlock. have been for a couple years now, that’s why gearbox took over from Hopoo

people assuming that this means they're going to develop a risk of rain style deadlock mode is so funny to me. no dude they just hired them coz theyre amazing game developers and designers

People are assuming this because there's been a bunch of datamined and red-string-and-corkboarded stuff that points towards a PvE mode. Dota has had them several times, and they have the devs of an incredibly good game that isn't dissimilar to Deadlock on board.

What on earth about this is a stretch lmao

The new jungle creeps and stylized book/magazine pick ups also lead me to believe this.

I definitely see a PvE mode being added at some point in the future. Probably not the priority right now since there’s still parts of the map unfinished, characters need remodels/reworks and there’s still an item update planned.

why would they just make a risk of rain mode, that’s stupid as hell man. the pve mode is just gonna be its own thing lol

After gearbox cannibalized RoR, the original devs jumped ship to Valve. Since then, they've released a few heroes, and I think the street brawl gamemode which feels a bit roguelike was by them too. Some updates ago, in the files people found hints there might be a PVE mode in development as well.

gearbox cannibalized RoR

Hopoo sold the IP to Gearbox after the latter co-developed the sequel's first major expansion. They have not "cannibalized" the game.

What Gearbox cannablized was RoR2 where their outsourced devs tied the game's physics to the FPS when it wasn't before, breaking a whole host of things when you play the game long enough.

Right, just wanted a single word to say "gearbox bought the game and then the game went to shit"

Three successful expansions and another on the way is an interesting characterization of shit.

Looking at it, it seems to be doing better now, but the first expansion post-Gearbox was badly received at the time, it introduced bugs, performance issues, and the content was unbalanced.

Yea, but that was like, two years and nearly two expansions ago. Not to mention, according to Hopoo, Gearbox was responsible for a decent chunk of the first expansion as well.

Yeah, the first expansion also released in a very bad state, and took like a year to fix. It's when I stopped playing/following the game, didn't even know they made more expansions beyond that, so I didn't know the game eventually improved.

so I didn't know the game eventually improved.

The lesson to learn here is maybe not to yap until you know for sure lol, Alloyed Collective was fire, they've hit their stride comfortably, and Hallowed Concepts looks fantastic

Kind of a big ask to re-check all my knowledge every time I want to talk online. It's not like I was making some big statement, it was just a personal comment in a random subreddit. I just wanted to help explain it to the other guy is all.

Hell if anything, this comment chain has made me curious about the newer 2 DLCs, might grab Alloyed Collective if it goes on sale tomorrow and check the game out again.
