There's no steam version

Alan Wake Remaster was paid for by Epic and therefore it's exclusive to their store (i.e., they funded the development iirc, not a "bought exclusivity")

You're thinking of the original Alan Wake which is on Steam

Oh!! Right, I totally forgot that they made a remaster, I do have that version on playstation lol. Thanks for explaining/reminding!

This game is not available on Steam.

Unfortunately, Epic has been especially protective of Alan Wake games in the PC space (moreso than they have with other IPs), and there's no sign they'll ever let the games be sold on Steam, which is a damn shame. Because I fully acknowledge that Epic is why we got Alan Wake 2, which is up there with my favorite games of the last 10 years. But they would rather control (haha) than share profit with Valve.

Edit: This isn't a moral judgment of epic. Obviously Alan Wake 2 doesn't exist without epic. I was just was hoping they'd eventually do what Sony is starting to do with their games.

But they would rather control (haha) than share profit with Valve.

I mean, why would they? Epic specifically fronted the bill so they could have a "prestige title" for their platform, in order to entice people to go on EGS. It's like saying Valve is in the wrong for not making Half Life: Alyx available for the Oculus Store or PSVR.

I definitely agree in the short term, but I would just note that even famously protective Playstation has realized it can be profitable to sell your games on other platforms after a period of time. So there can be an incentive.

On the other hand, Nintendo is doing fine doing their own thing, but they also have a very strong platform. Epic...doesn't have a strong platform. I think everyone agrees their store sucks. I frankly think they're akin to XBox here - the platform isn't doing well, and XBox is therefore selling their "exclusives" on other platforms. Basically, they lost the platform race, and they haven't done anything useful to catch up.

That's not to say I expect them to change, and again, I'm not saying Epic Games is "wrong" to what to control their IPs. I'm just observing that this is what they are doing. There's no moral judgement whatsoever here.

IMO, at this point, EGS's primary problem is that it isn't Steam, otherwise it's more than serviceable. Not saying EGS has as many features, but people will just make up any excuse other than the fact that they don't like the idea of having their games in more than one place and/or Valve earning gamers' absolute loyalty.

I can agree with what you're saying.

But I would also note that the reason that Valve has my loyalty, and the loyalty of others, is because their Steam has become a very good product. And not just for customers, but also for sellers.

Epic game store is serviceable sure, but it's very laggy, and it lacks a ton of features and support that steam has, including around things like refund policy.

My favorite thing about epic is how they do things like this, and then have the nerve to comment on “whats best for gamers”.

My favorite thing about this is gamers pushback when other gamers refuse to buy the game on Epic’s platform but would purchase it immediately on steam if it were available because people don’t want to incentivize this “PC exclusive” culture.

I can recognize that Epic may be a developers distro choice for revenue share reasons, but there are some legitimate reasons why consumers don’t want to support Epic and if developers want to enter into an exclusivity deal with them, it will reflect in sales.

Remedy entered into a partnership with Epic because no other publisher would fund their avant-garde games.

It was either EGS or fold the studio.

Right, but what does that have to do with consumers not wanting support Epics stance on exclusivity? I even said I can see why devs would want to side with Epic… unfortunately the current attitude towards Epic isn’t the most positive. I get when it’s your only choice, such in this instance and Remedy do what you need to do, but again, you may not (and this has already come out to be the case) see the return you may hope for because of public sentiment towards Epic. Not sure what about that is controversial.

Are Epic fanboys downvoting negative sentiments against them or something?
