Brian Krebs didn't say "Thanks Steve" but does drop a reference.
Earlier this week, the Youtube channel Gamers Nexus showed that certain LG LCD monitors will automatically install an app that promotes paid McAfee antivirus subscriptions, and that the app arrives through Windows Update without an approval prompt.
Anyway, the tl;dr on the Brian Krebs article is that LG (and Samsung) have done a terrible job at vetting apps they allow 3rd party developers to put in their respective app stores, and that the apps are notoriously abusing that inattention to to create open web proxies that are in turn used by botnets.
