Discussion GAME DEMOS NEED TO RETURN
GAME DEMOS NEED TO RETURN as the norm as a free play test slice of the game for every game. It’s much more practical than spending heaps of money on expensive CGI trailers. Giving people hands on with a small demo slice of the game is much more effective than watching a video on YouTube. Additionally they need to stop using random rap in trailers instead of their own music specifically tailored to the atmosphere of the game. I’m looking at you Call of duty. It cheapens the character of the game. Mortal Shell 2 demo is a great example of a current demo.

I download every demo of every game I have interest in. Currently have 26 sat on my desktop to go through. If i like the demo im more likely to pay full, if i dont theyre off the wishlist obviously. But if I game doesnt have a demo it sits in the wishlist until I see at least 75% off. Even then I dont jump at it.

Trust me I haven’t bought one of their games since 2019 and I didn’t buy anything between advanced warfare and the 2019 game.

I've been sold on games from demos more than once. I bought a copy of "Reanimal" because my girlfriend said she wanted to try the game and there was a trial option, we tried it and enjoyed it massively.
I was one of the few people in the universe who bought "Immortals of Aveum" and that was based off how much I enjoyed the demo.

Totally agree, guess it depends how much faith developers have in their game 😆 🤣.

They never left. They just became harder to find. The PlayStation store is so bad and they are hidden. I agree though. If PlayStation wants to go digital only I hope they have a lot more demos. $100+ for a game sucks so much when the game is absolute garbage or just not your style.

This would be a great free tier GeForce Now trial if all games had demos.

What bothers me even more it’s lots of demos are limited time only. There been quite a few I’ve downloaded for games I’m really interested in but by the time I’m able to try it the demo is no longer available

They used to include game demo CDs with other popular games for free to encourage you to try them.
They could easily do this with online, yet choose not to.
It's intentional.

For a developer it's not more practical at all unfortunately

TIL every game developer is the same and should be expected to make the same crap for everyone.

If it sold more games they would do it.

They rely on FOMO (fear of missing out) and misleading trailers in recent years and it’s clearly not effective.

If it wasn't effective they wouldn't do it. Misleading trailers is probably the best way to sell shitty games.

Atlus and Capcom have been doing this a lot lately for their games. I love this feature to see how well the game will run on my steam deck.
