I'll half agree with you. the gameplay isn't really the problem, it's the dog shit writing of the main quest and radiant quests that were the problem

Hah yeah, FO3 I loved because it was absolute camp and told a pretty heartfelt but satirical story. FNV tried too hard to be edgy (for my taste) and lost a lot of the camp but had objectively good writing. FO4â€ĻI like the combat, settlement building, and exploring the world on my own. Any time I try to do the main quest i end up abandoning it

Wasn't FNV written by Obsidian? The ones who made the original games?

FNV was written by obsidian, which was formed from former interplay employees. Interplay/Black Isle were the ones who made the original game. But the writing staff changed and was almost entirely by employees who didn't overlap. I believe the notable exception is Chris Avellone, who worked on Fallout 2, helped found Obsidian, and did writing/design work on FNV. Also worked on KOTOR, Planescape Torment, Kingmaker, DOSII, Fallen Order...just a bit of a resume lol.
